Make a suit with dampeners. If you get scanned switch to the dampened suit (2 x militia). If that doesn't work you are likely getting proto stomped anyway so don't worry.
Nova Knives are very hard to use and are kind of useless until advanced level. They are fun though, just don't expect to get a fantastic score. If you are sure about them get advanced knives asap. Go for backstabs on stationary targets to start with. Your radar is your best weapon either with an active scanner or not.
Scouts aren't getting nerfed but they are changing. One potential change is that you might find your suit with no sidearm slot and an extra equipment slot, which would kind of spoil your knifing. This isn't confirmed though. Avoiding scanners may be getting easier though.
Rail rifles are good not op and are great for flanking with a scout suit. Personally I prefer shotguns or combat rifles but that is the beauty of this game, each to his own.

I salute you for choosing a difficult, underdog playstyle. o7
I second the advice of working on skilling up your profile dampening and making a fit with 2 militia dampeners on it so you can get below ADV scanners, as Quil and Varoth mentioned. Being unseen is key.... scan range and scan precision help you in picking up enemies at greater ranges as well so these are important passive skills, but profile dampening is more of a priority as you can just up your situational awareness and visually scan your surroundings to spot enemies.
Using the scanner is fine, although it alerts others to your presence, so many scouts forgo it. You can do a lot of damage with the regular RR so I'd leave further weapon skills for later and not skill up your RR anymore.
Also - just type "LFS" in Scouts united and someone can pick you up. I'm happy to squad with you in-game anytime and can help you train in scoutly things. Bojo is a good player so if he's willing to train you it's a very good offer as well.
Also, the corp "R0N1N" is a scout only corp, if they are still active. |

knives and the RR are a bad combo, the RR is best used at medium long range and leaves you hurting in the medium short range arena. combo RR with a smg for better dps across different ranges.
racial scout 5 ~ 3 million sp profile dampening 3 ~ 500k SP
that combo will put you under 90% of active scanners passively. sadly most scout builds are really really high SP because we rely so heavily on our passive skills. the standard caldari med frame has the same slot layout as the gallente ADV scout, you might wanna use that while you fill out your cores it'll give you a little more ehp.
I feel so bad for you. you get all the ****** parts of the scout suit and none of the good stuff.

I would also advise not to use an active scanner. When you scan someone, it alerts them to your presence.
I used to use one when hacking, mainly to avoid areas with multiple reds I could not take on.
What I would recommend is skilling into REs for your equipment slot. Even just one level does wonders. The are tons of fun, and once you get used to them you can take down tanks.
Good luck brother knifer.

I may be stupid, but if you play scout like a camper, and don't dampen(hear me out) people will think you're a sniper, that's when you waltz to the nearest corner and wait for them to sneak up on you, then just knife them.
Use the Flux basic scanner, as you'll be spending less time scanning, and you'll be scanning out past RR optimal. If you see 'some margin' there's a black eagle or basic light, AR them for the cash. If they pop up, try your damndest to knife em. Sidearm damage mods should be your high slot, and run kin/cardi.
The idea is that you should stick with the allies, and use them as your 'stealth'. On radar they can't tell you from a heavy, and if you move only walking, and hiding in 'heavy spots' or 'sniper holes' with a space to sprint the enemy, then you'll rack up kills. If you're on at 2-5 EVE time i can show ya how i do it.

Good luck brother knifer. Not necessarily, i've noticed that people pay absolutely no heed to 'you have been scanned' Unless of course, they're redline snipers. Knowing that there's 3 people in that room is much more preferable than thinking one guys in there, but it turns out there's a heavy that your prey was going to go heal.

Running the Gal scout, you have an advantage with scanning range. Think about where you want to stick scanning range and precision skills in your future SP spending. Word is that if you get them skilled up enough as a Gal, you are like a walking scanner. Esp if you end up adding a range increasing module.

your scan range is double that of a heavy or medium frame at level 2 gallente scout (19.5m). this means that in tight areas like building you can see their red arrow through walls and often the roof while they can't see yours. just something to think about...
how scanning works
every dropsuit has a profile, precision, and range. the profile is how easy it is to pick up on scanners the precision is how accurate the built in scanner in you dropsuit is the range is how far your dropsuit's built in scanner reaches
if your precision is lower than the enemy dropsuits profile and they are in range, the enemy will show up on your mini map and a red arrow will be above their head. if your profile is lower than the enemy's precision, you will not show up on their mini map.
as a scout you want: a low profile, below 36db will beat ADV active scanners (the most common active scanners) a low precision (your default is the lowest precision of any suit, don't put much if any SP into it) a high range, see them before they see you

Besides the excellent tips already given, I'd say situational awareness is the key to being a good Scout. Get into their heads, you can perform really well even with low SP amounts, get familiar with mechanics, observe then act.
As many of the high profile Scouts mention in this thread, go for reducing your profile to be able to be unseen. I'll be happy to show you the ropes when I'm online and also donate a little ISK, to help you on your way.
Lastly, accept the offer from Bojo and welcome to the Scout community! |

Good rule of thumb is that you will as a scout beat a scanner of the same level as your dampener and scout skill.
Ie a Basic scout and dampener will beat a basic scanner Adv scout (skill level not suit) and adv dampener will beat a basic scanner
Don't over rely on scanners. Scouts can use them to figure out you are nearby and that you can't see them. So as a scout you might think you are safe but a fellow scout is waiting for you. So situational awareness is a good thing to learn.
Play with a MLT shotgun and you will learn how sneaky scouts can be.
