Back in November, CCP Stiffneck stated that there will be a new gamemode called Conquest coming in the near future. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1451342#post1451342
CCP Stiffneck wrote:The maps we designed need to fulfill the game mode "conquest" , which means you have the chance to have all battlegrounds available at the same time and travel between them. I don't know when it will come to true and how many players it will support. But it should be there in the near future.
Going a bit more into detail, the game mode is essentially Skirmish 1.0 or Rush for those familiar with Battlefield.
Now honestly, I am not expecting this in 1.8. However, since CCP seems to be pulling out all the stops for this next update I'll take the optimistic route, but only mildly. I'll place a 5 million ISK bet to anyone who wants to take the safer role of the pessimist.

Conquest is the name of the new battles, we will be fighting over containers filled with weapon crates.
The attackers will come in with an MCC and try to hack the containers and steal the weapon crates home to the MCC. While you carry a weapon crate you want be able to use weapons or sprint.
The defenders will not have a MCC, they spawn in a ground base. They have to defend the containers and stop the attackers from running away with the weapon crates.
Winn/loss will be determined by, attackers lose there MCC, or they get the crates to the MCC or cloning.
And yes it will come in 1.8. |

EDIT: Also, this sounds like you're just desperately trying to shoehorn the previous 'new game mode in 1.8' rumour into what conquest should actually sound like - it just doesn't quite look right. |

I seriously doubt we will see this anytime soon, maybe not until we're on the PS4.
With a larger gamemode we will absolutely need more than 16 players on each team, and I truly can't see that happening with the current comms system. 16 players trying to communicate over each other is already a mess and I can't imagine what it would be like with 32 players or more.
I'm also not sure if the PS3 can even handle more players, it seems to have enough trouble already, so this would be another reason to why we likely won't see it for a while (until Dust is on the PS4).

Rush style game-play is always better than conquest because it focuses the action. we dont have enough players in are current game mode to make the action exciting

I never played in closed beta so I never experienced skirmish 1.0. However, hearing the vets talk about it gave me an idea for a game mode. Unfortunately, it would have been similar to this "Conquest" game mode. So now, no one will ever believe me .
Anyway, the simple idea I had was to slightly redesign skirmish 1.0 into a salvage/resource hijacking game mode. You can call it "Convoy" game mode. Here's how it goes, Be gentle.
- The MCC is actually a cargo/delivery container containing weapons and other gear. Crucially these items could also be EVE resources, allowing a link to be made to the EVE economy. This cargo container needs to be transported across a planet surface to a docking station, or "port" where the resources can be offloaded/delivered.
- One team of mercs is the "CONVOY" for the slow moving cargo ship. Infantry, dropships and tanks as protection. The defenders.
- The other team is the attackers. Mercs hired to capture the MCC and stop it from reaching the port. Not sure how the capturing mechanic could work best though.
- Win/loss will be determined by: attackers capturing the MCC/cloning the defenders. Or defenders successfully delivering cargo to the port/cloning the attackers.
- Salvage payout can be determined as a percentage of the weapons/vehicles/items that were defined as the cargo.
Anyway, that's the basic idea. I didn't think through all the details. But I'm sure the bright sparks on these forums can improve it further.

Maybe it'll be something akin to what is displayed in the intro movie?
You know those scenes showing off really large battlefields (not as small as the current ones).
Also if you look at some of the current maps you can see that they're connected to different maps (way out in the redline), and it seems to be in real time too since the other map features aren't parts of the skybox. |

That is exactly what the links in the OP are telling you. CCP design the maps such that the maps neighbor other maps in order to fulfill the requirements of this new game mode where you move from section to section.

Battlefield does it with 24 players and it doesn't feel empty at all.
In regards to how many players the PS3 is capable of, it's not simply down to coding either. That's part of it, but another part is sacrifices, what are you willing to give up to get a higher player count and is it worth it? These trade offs range from visual fidelity, lighting, animations, deployable objects, and so much more. MAG sacrificed a lot to make 128v128 happen, pretty much everything except the core shooter mechanics.

Except MAG did many of these things well and had the high player counts. Admittedly it has been sometime since I played MAG but for what it was back then it achieved its goals of Massive Action Games.
In any case I would like to be against you if only to earn that sweet 5 million but I don't have the heart to do such a thing. For the most part I want you to be right as this kind of game mode would be massive boon and draw card for Dust as a whole.
Again as CCP Stiffneck said, it may not be coming to Dust now, but eventually I feel that is a long term goal for them, and the ability to transition such large maps even if only to one specific complex at a time would be a huge leap forward for CCP in terms of being able to accommodate larger player bases, not to mention a very literal reminder and exposition that we are little mercs in a very big pond.

I want it to be true so badlyGǪbut somebody had better post something on Feedback/Requests for something like a rework of the Squad mechanics to incorporate better comms. I'm think something like Eve's fleet system with Squadleads being able to listen to Team and Squad channels at once and then alternate whether they want to talk to the squad or make an team-wide broadcast. |
