Back in November, CCP Stiffneck stated that there will be a new gamemode called Conquest coming in the near future. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1451342#post1451342
CCP Stiffneck wrote:The maps we designed need to fulfill the game mode "conquest" , which means you have the chance to have all battlegrounds available at the same time and travel between them. I don't know when it will come to true and how many players it will support. But it should be there in the near future.
Going a bit more into detail, the game mode is essentially Skirmish 1.0 or Rush for those familiar with Battlefield.
Now honestly, I am not expecting this in 1.8. However, since CCP seems to be pulling out all the stops for this next update I'll take the optimistic route, but only mildly. I'll place a 5 million ISK bet to anyone who wants to take the safer role of the pessimist.

With a larger gamemode we will absolutely need more than 16 players on each team, and I truly can't see that happening with the current comms system. 16 players trying to communicate over each other is already a mess and I can't imagine what it would be like with 32 players or more.
I'm also not sure if the PS3 can even handle more players, it seems to have enough trouble already, so this would be another reason to why we likely won't see it for a while (until Dust is on the PS4). Really? This game mode would essentially be the same thing as Rush in Battlefield, and they do it with only 24 players.

You know those scenes showing off really large battlefields (not as small as the current ones).
Also if you look at some of the current maps you can see that they're connected to different maps (way out in the redline), and it seems to be in real time too since the other map features aren't parts of the skybox. That is exactly what the links in the OP are telling you. CCP design the maps such that the maps neighbor other maps in order to fulfill the requirements of this new game mode where you move from section to section.

The hardware is more than capable, its down to the coding. My comment was in regards to how many players is needed to make the game mode work. Battlefield does it with 24 players and it doesn't feel empty at all.
In regards to how many players the PS3 is capable of, it's not simply down to coding either. That's part of it, but another part is sacrifices, what are you willing to give up to get a higher player count and is it worth it? These trade offs range from visual fidelity, lighting, animations, deployable objects, and so much more. MAG sacrificed a lot to make 128v128 happen, pretty much everything except the core shooter mechanics.
