You couldn't possibly get enough for it make it worthwhile. (Except that you're basically on a forced rehab, Dust-wise.)

Yessss, Cuse. There are lots of gals who play Dust.
I do believe I AM more laid back than MANY of the fellas---those who yell on the MIC when it's set to "Team Voice" take their RECREATION games way too uptightly, and know their stress-complaints are being heard all over the match, when their mouths would be better off helping to GUIDE the teammates instead of raging about them.
Yes, I DO use voice-changer religiously, to blur my male buddies from trying to guess my age (NOT a spring chicken) and discourage them from any fantasizing about clone-dating and hot plasma showers with a girl-merc---some players' enthusiasm to squad up with you again and again, or get super chatty, well... it does kinda feel like many video game players are looking for soul mates to dream about sometimes. Please no, guys,...it's just a video game.
And YES, I am very shy on the MIC... so shy other players often think my MIC is broken, LOL! But I'm trying to learn from some of the REALLY GOOD COMM matches I've heard,... and LESS chatter tends to be MORE useful than more. So I can't guarantee you a wonderful conversation, but I'm sure it'll be fun to squad with your crew, Cuse.

good question lad. A lady or girl is one who enters the field along side the male counterpart. where in battle a male may drop his shield to hold his weapon with two hands or duel wield for maximum destruction. The lass will not drop her shield tho. She wields her sword or spear with one hand and the shield in the other.
For you see lad.. she is the very bastion of reason. the essence of life and death. She will fight to live, or die protecting those around her, where we demons of night would rather fight to win, or at least make sure we damn take everyone one down to the pitts of Niflheim.
When we die lads.. we shall dine in the great hall. When they dye lads, they sit by Odins side. Valkyries by their own right.

Women in DUST donGÇÖt activate their mics until they are better than most of the men that play. So while every male scrub will be happily jabbering away, you will never hear a an inexperienced woman on coms. Reason would imply that women donGÇÖt start off that good, so there are probably more out there, but good luck trying to identify them.

Squad up with me and my trustees sometime. I for one enjoy short and clear-cut intel over smacktalk and bullshit when a battle is on (im a bit of a military-buff so radio discipline is sacred to me).

This isn't like CoD, battlefield, or Halo where you can just pick up a controller and fire in the general direstion to get kills.
My roommate's girlfriend and him are both gamers and they play everything from borderlands to animal crossing to Final Fantasy IV, yet this was one of the first games they both couldn't enjoy together.

I think you mean 'teenyboppers' can't stay calm, don't lump everyone into one category.
If I used your logic I could say this.
I don't like women in my squads because they die all the time, snipe or run away and are generally useless.

Another reason why ladies might choose to stay silent in game... The assumption that girls can't play video games, and being told to " Get back in the kitchen, and make a sandwich. ". On one hand gamers ask for girls to play, and on the other chide them for doing so.

Girls? There are plenty in this game. Not in actual matches, but in kitchens.
That'll get me some hate. There are girls playing, but I don't remember squading up with any recently. Rabid Princess was the last memorable one since she was pretty good. There were others, but I don't remember them.
I only squad with buddies most of the time, unless you join my squad while in warbarge. Otherwise, I'm solo just dicking around. If I want a serious squad, I'll squad with people from the forums if I see any.

It does not matter if your good at the game to squad up with me. And when they do talk some of these guys don't know how to act cause they don't talk to girls in real life. The whole reason i made this post is cause i was in a squad with a girl the other day and i all ways see her playing by herself and not talking on the mic. She told me it was cause she was not very good at the game and guys act funny around her. That's why i am saying that it is ok to squad up with us and you don't have to play be yourself.

So... You're saying that girls need babying and for all the guys to hold their hand to be able to play videogames? Isn't that an even more sexist view?
Personally I don't give a crap about gender in gaming. I don't sit around wishing for more girls to play (that sounds more like the behaviour of a teenaged virgin boy who secretly wishes to find a woman to **** through gaming in tyst typically convoluted teenager way), but I don't actively try to exclude them either.
And frankly that old bit about "getting back in the kitchen" is hardly a genuine view most users of it have. It's just a ***** test, to see if the reciever is gonna act like a crybaby or if she's gonna talk back like she's got a pair (figuratively that is).
This is pretty common in testosterone fuelled male culture. Guys tend to tell eachother A LOT more demeaning and humiliating things as a part of the jargong than they ever say to a girl who wants in.
Girls can't go around expecting to get politely invited in to a male dominated enviroment, and expect to be treated with the utmost civility and good manners. If you want in a group of men engaging in their pefered hobby, sport, game or whatever you have to MUSCLE in and claim space. Demand respect without giving in to the provocative tests by spinning them around and sending them right back.
And I for one am a firm believer that girls are perfectly capable of doing that (some of my best friends, acquaintances and lovers are women who've proven capable of such feats). But they didn't learn it from some "good guy" who offered to hold their hand and who cried out for all other "insensitive men" to "behave themselves". |

Many of the girls I know use mics. But when they get tired all of the "baboon" (their words) talk. they go off mic. Thing is they still stay and play. No need to white knight them in games any more then in a motor head concert. They can take care of themselves.
but there are some moments when you must put on that WK helmet on. like when it obvious its just bitter sod who is trying to push the girl out of the game. (have no idea why.. but it happens) |

Your assumption is incorrect. Mine was just an opinion about, one of the many reasons why, what could drive them to choose not to speak up more often.
You're right gender in gaming doesn't matter. It's the game that everyone came to play together ( or, not ) that does, and enjoying yourself. We all log on to kick back, and have fun! Regardless of our play style, or skill level.
That " old bit " might happen more often than you'd think, in all seriousness. I know several ladies who are excellent gamers, and have a pair. Figuratively speaking, of course.
" Politely invited "? Wouldn't that statement be accurately assessed as sexist? They were well aware of the fact that they were stepping into a testosterone driven environment when they chose begin gaming, at least the ones I can account for.

No it's not sexist. Im just saying that if you're "turned off" by multiplayer videogaming because you think that other players are "rude" or didn't "make you feel more welcome", then I don't really care what gender you are because I won't feel sorry to see you go.
For some reason though, it seems women are a more inclined to cite such reasons when they don't want to play multiplayer videogames. I don't care to speculate why it seems to be more common among women than men (there's probably a buttload of theories about that out there already, with varyint degrees of credibility), it's just an observation I've made and found that many people tend to agree with due to similar observations of their own. |

That " old bit " might happen more often than you'd think, in all seriousness. I know several ladies who are excellent gamers, and have a pair. Figuratively speaking, of course. They expect you to be yourself.

Have your GF or wife hang around the guys more often. Trust me those issues will come up dude! lol
Just the difference in men and women. My ladies can hang with my friends to a extent. just as they can stay on mic to a extent.
*But I thought there are no differences in men and women besides gender?*

Well i can see now why some girls don't use the mic thank you for makeing it painfully clear where all the girls have gone in this game. I am sure many girls hide their gender because of this
Very many guys in video games have not much luck with girls in real life, its reason why many of them do it. But in games same rules as in real life - endless signs of attention to girl best way to fail or to be just used by this girl for her profit. |

I was in a squad the other day with a woman who I have known for quite a while and whom I have great respect for as fellow mercenary. We had lost our uplinks at the Domination terminal area and she was forced to run back from our ground spawn. Apparently a Blueberry in a LAV was repeatedly running her over. After the Blueberry had done so several times she reached her breaking point and let loose a 45 second tirade of frustration and fury which would have shocked the most stalwart of Icelandic fishermen.
I had to chuckle. I told her that I really wished that I had a recording of that so I could post a link to it on this thread!

Yes, there are women playing Dust.
Personally, I don't go on mic because of how male gamers have reacted to me in the past. I have no desire to be 'tested' by my own team to see if I'm going to 'act like a crybaby' or talk back like I've 'got a pair'. I have no need to be white knighted as some male gamers seem to think all women need. I'm here to play the game and have a good time. I don't have to act like 'one of the guys' to do it.
Part of the reason I play online games is that in RL, I'm not self confident or really outgoing in the slightest. Online, with the buffer of the computer/console, I'm more confident, although still far from outgoing.
I'm not the best at FPS games, I know that but I'm getting better with practice, just like anyone does. I'm also not all that competitive, KDR and who's top of the leaderboard don't mean much at all to me. I'm certainly not here to pick up a gamer guy, as has been suggested to me in the past, I'm just not interested in men that way.
So for those of you that this applies to, keep your testosterone fuelled ideas of what a woman in a game wants and treat me just like you would anyone else. I know for sure that if you're red and in my scope, there's nothing that will make me pause before pulling the trigger. (Releasing the trigger really, I mostly use a charge SR but it doesn't have quite the same ring to it)
*EDIT* I hadn't seen that BFF episode before, thanks for the link.
When I play as a sniper, I'm more likely to be nearer to the opponents redline than my own.

I got my wife to make a toon on dust and I hope she likes it. Though, she does get angry in other video games when she dies, so I can realistically say that she will lose her freaking mind when she gets protostomped in the very near future.

Meh, for me it's just something to break the status quo. As a non-American in an American corp, in a pretty much American alliance listening to a lot of voices that sound largely the same to me can be problematic at times. So really I'm about excited to squad with a girl as I am to squad with a Scotsman.
Its also nice to have people that make you feel a little more diverse, "you're a 20 something white hetero male too? No way! Your life must be so much different to mine! Tell me, how do you feel about beer?"
I'd be very excited to squad up with any grandparents who might be playing though.
