I squadded with a girl from Ancient Exiles the other day. She was about as impressive a player as most of the other Exiles I've played with.
She had the highest pitched voice EVER though. Like, unnaturally high, maybe it was just my cheap headset though.

Girls? There are plenty in this game. Not in actual matches, but in kitchens.
That'll get me some hate. There are girls playing, but I don't remember squading up with any recently. Rabid Princess was the last memorable one since she was pretty good. There were others, but I don't remember them.
I only squad with buddies most of the time, unless you join my squad while in warbarge. Otherwise, I'm solo just dicking around. If I want a serious squad, I'll squad with people from the forums if I see any.

It does not matter if your good at the game to squad up with me. And when they do talk some of these guys don't know how to act cause they don't talk to girls in real life. The whole reason i made this post is cause i was in a squad with a girl the other day and i all ways see her playing by herself and not talking on the mic. She told me it was cause she was not very good at the game and guys act funny around her. That's why i am saying that it is ok to squad up with us and you don't have to play be yourself.

So... You're saying that girls need babying and for all the guys to hold their hand to be able to play videogames? Isn't that an even more sexist view?
Personally I don't give a crap about gender in gaming. I don't sit around wishing for more girls to play (that sounds more like the behaviour of a teenaged virgin boy who secretly wishes to find a woman to **** through gaming in tyst typically convoluted teenager way), but I don't actively try to exclude them either.
And frankly that old bit about "getting back in the kitchen" is hardly a genuine view most users of it have. It's just a ***** test, to see if the reciever is gonna act like a crybaby or if she's gonna talk back like she's got a pair (figuratively that is).
This is pretty common in testosterone fuelled male culture. Guys tend to tell eachother A LOT more demeaning and humiliating things as a part of the jargong than they ever say to a girl who wants in.
Girls can't go around expecting to get politely invited in to a male dominated enviroment, and expect to be treated with the utmost civility and good manners. If you want in a group of men engaging in their pefered hobby, sport, game or whatever you have to MUSCLE in and claim space. Demand respect without giving in to the provocative tests by spinning them around and sending them right back.
And I for one am a firm believer that girls are perfectly capable of doing that (some of my best friends, acquaintances and lovers are women who've proven capable of such feats). But they didn't learn it from some "good guy" who offered to hold their hand and who cried out for all other "insensitive men" to "behave themselves". |

Many of the girls I know use mics. But when they get tired all of the "baboon" (their words) talk. they go off mic. Thing is they still stay and play. No need to white knight them in games any more then in a motor head concert. They can take care of themselves.
but there are some moments when you must put on that WK helmet on. like when it obvious its just bitter sod who is trying to push the girl out of the game. (have no idea why.. but it happens) |

Your assumption is incorrect. Mine was just an opinion about, one of the many reasons why, what could drive them to choose not to speak up more often.
You're right gender in gaming doesn't matter. It's the game that everyone came to play together ( or, not ) that does, and enjoying yourself. We all log on to kick back, and have fun! Regardless of our play style, or skill level.
That " old bit " might happen more often than you'd think, in all seriousness. I know several ladies who are excellent gamers, and have a pair. Figuratively speaking, of course.
" Politely invited "? Wouldn't that statement be accurately assessed as sexist? They were well aware of the fact that they were stepping into a testosterone driven environment when they chose begin gaming, at least the ones I can account for.

No it's not sexist. Im just saying that if you're "turned off" by multiplayer videogaming because you think that other players are "rude" or didn't "make you feel more welcome", then I don't really care what gender you are because I won't feel sorry to see you go.
For some reason though, it seems women are a more inclined to cite such reasons when they don't want to play multiplayer videogames. I don't care to speculate why it seems to be more common among women than men (there's probably a buttload of theories about that out there already, with varyint degrees of credibility), it's just an observation I've made and found that many people tend to agree with due to similar observations of their own. |
