TL;DR a clip puts rounds in a magazine, a magazine puts rounds in a weapon.
thnx for tht knowledgeable insight there also this post should say "weapon, terminology" just throwing tht out there.

Nobody actually gives a damn, really. Lots of military and law enforcement people use magazine/mag and clip interchangeably as well as people who have never touched a gun before in their life and everybody in between.
Getting buttmad about it on a video game makes you look like you desperately want people to think of you as a gun toting badass in real life.
tl;dr - Deal with it. |

I'm sure there are people out there so desperate to feel superior to others that they laugh at them for using what has become essentially interchangeable terms in the firearms language lexicon. I don't know any of them personally but I've heard stories about them.
If it helps you sleep at night, do what you feel. Just know that there are people laughing at you for laughing at others for calling a magazine a clip because it's the silliest thing in the world to be picky about. |

As I understand it the Rail Rifle uses Magnetic Rail technology, which fires a projectile at ridiculously high speeds. So the magazine should look like it houses those projectiles instead of a battery..... Rail guns are electric. Would have a battery and a magazine. Maybe they are combined.

Nano Hives do not put ammo into the current gun. Only into the reserve ammo pool for which all we're concerned is a magazine bank where clips of ammo are loaded into the spare mag.

For those of you who want a visual reference, the M1 Gararand "stripper clip"... Finally someone else that get's it. True clip fed rifles such as M1, german Mauser 9mm, Italian made ww1 Franchi 7.62 all used true clips that held the rounds by the back of the shell casing's that ejected out the top of the breach with an annoying "ping".
Mass driver would be manually loaded rotary cylinder.
Heavy machine gun would be a drum spring fed magazine.

- Assault Rifle
- Rail Rifle
- Combat Rifle
- Sniper Rifle
- Sub-Machine Gun
- Flaylock Pistol
- Forge Gun
- Heavy Machine Gun (Box Magazine/ Big Bucket O' Ammo)
- Swarm Launcher
- Mass Driver

Guns with clips
- NONE
Special
- Scrambler Rifle (Battery thingy)
- Laser Rifle (Battery thingy)
- Scrambler Pistol (Fuel Cell)
- Plasma Cannon (Single-Shot Cartridge)
- Nova Knives
- My Fist of Steel
Well, as it turns out, every gun in the game uses a magazine except Nova Knives, Plasma Cannon, Scrambler Rifle, Laser Rifle, Scrambler Pistol and the sweet sting of my Heavy's fist. It's of course not the biggest problem in the game, heck, it's hardly even a problem, but CCP may want to think about replacing "clip" with "magazine" in the future.
Swarm Launchers have packs
Shotguns have tubes
Energy weapons have cells or batteries
HMGs have Drums
Mass Drivers have clips.
Plasma Cannons have canisters.

... So much ignorance.
A magazine a part of a gun that stores ammunition. That is why modern magazines were first referred to as, detachable box magazines. Hence, pump action shotguns generally have a permanent tubular magazine. Most guns use to have an integrated magazine, like bolt action snipers and semi autos like the like the M1 and SKS.
Magazines held rounds together and were used to put rounds in internal magazines, they were not needed to operate many guns but they were faster than individually loading rounds. There are clips for loading modern detachable magazines, though these are mostly used to speed up the reloading of empty magazines, these types of clips have mostly been supplemented by speed loaders.

I think that energy weapons' casings should be referred to as chargers. It is a less common name for magazines.
