Except their resistance is damage type specific, if you're not using a gun they're resistant to, you're going to cut through them just as easily as you do now.

The fact that their resistances are damage specific is exactly why it's NOT overpowered. It allows you to switch to a different weapon type in order to kill a Sentinel which is being problematic.
I am a little curious about what is considered "Blast Damage". I don't think its specifically talking about explosive damage, so perhaps its a 25% resistance to any type of splash damage? Actually a REALLY good idea, since heavies are basically grenade magnets, it gives them the ability to tank through some of the splash damage.
Overall I'm pleased with the direction CCP is taking the Sentinels, it's clever and I think it'll work out well.

Funny you say that, since I don't play Heavy aside from a Dren when I feel like screwing around.
Why are you so upset about the bonus? Just switch damage types and you'll be fine. Adapt or Die

Its not even the effective HP, its that they get a 15% resistance to one type of damage on either their shield or armor (not both), and a +10% resist to another type of damage on either shield or armor (not both)
So the bonus is only applied to a part of their total HP, and its only against two of the five damage types. If a particular sentinel is difficult to kill, switch to a different weapon. This is actually great because it encourages squads to run different damage type weapons so they're never stuck against a heavy which heavily resists the same damage type.

While I would agree, the Minmatar Commando bonus uses the term "Explosive Weapons" which makes me wonder that if they meant "Explosive Resistance" why not just say explosive instead of Blast?
Then again they're still using the term "Kick" instead of "Recoil"

Tell me something Carlos, if I had a module which allowed my dropsuit to resist 100% of Thermal and EM Damage, but I took full damage to Kinetic and Hybrid Rail, how would you go about killing me?

So in other words, you've made a post complaining about the bonuses the Sentinels might get, when you don't even understand the basics of damage types? Damage types exist in Dust too and they're very important.
Get informed before you start complaining about things you don't understand, k?

Sure when I see a protoheavy i can switch weapons to counter that heavy but that means I have to be skilled into every weapon type which means I'm about 20mill SP away from that or I use a STD verison that perfectly counters him and he just laughs because his HP is still close to 1000.
Or you run in a group where each member of the fire team has a different damage type do you don't have to skill into every weapon, this is a team based game afterall =)

What you should really take away from this is that the weapon, suit, and fit that you choose will never be effective in every situation. There are some fights you simply will not win because your enemy has the direct counter to your particular fit.
In the case of sentinels, you also have to take into account where the resistance is being applied, in the case of the Caldari it's getting a -10% damage from EM weapons on its shields, but shields naturally take +20% damage from EM, meaning a level 5 Sentinel is still taking +10% base damage from EM. In many cases the Sentinel bonus only serves to negate the natural weakness armor and shields have against specific damage types.
So yes, part of the time you're going to find a heavy that is going to resist the weapon you're using and you're going to get smoked, and the rest of the time you're going to find heavies that DONT resist the weapon you're using, and you'll do jut fine.
