My current dropsuit of choice is the std Caldari assault: 2 highs, 2 lows with 30 PG / 150 CPU. It is cost effective and has been serving me well for quite some time...
But I have recently invested in Caldari Assault Dropsuit IV and I am thinking of making the move to the adv assault dropsuits. I will have an extra high slot available to me as well as more PG and CPU, of course. I will be upgrading my shield extenders to match my new adv dropsuit, but the extra slot has be wondering...
I hate hate not seeing people on my TACNET. I was thinking about fitting a Precision Enhancer in my new high slot; probably the adv version.
Has anyone used a Precision Enhancer? Did you notice a difference in who you "saw" on your TACNET? I know scouts will probably slip under my sensors, but what about the other dropsuit types?

Your suit profile is 50 stock, a scout is 45. Your scan precision is 55. Technically anything below 55 profile will be not be scanned/highlighted on your radar/minimap. That's basically everything except heavies(65 profile).
Precision skill adds 2% or .02 reduction to your base precision per point invested, so... Using a basic precision enhancer will reduce/better your scan by 12% or .12(.10+.02=.12). This puts you at(55*.12=6.6, 55-6.6=48.4) 48.4 precision. So now you can see other assaults and medium frame suits. Using advanced precision enhancer will reduce/better your scan by 21% or .21(.15+.06=.21). This will grant a precision of 43.5, you will now be able to see scouts and other light suits on your tacnet. |

That is great news! That is, unless they fit profile dampeners and/or drop points into the Racial Scout Dropsuit skill. At least I will be able to see medium dropsuits, which are in the majority I think.
Thank you for your help.

Don't bother with precision enhancement or range amplification unless you're a Gallente scout.
Use an active scanner instead.
Why? Because even if you skill into precision enhancement, your scan radius is only 10 meters. With an active scanner, you'll get better scan precision (36dB at advanced) and a 100 meter radius. |

Wouldn't this prevent me from having my weapon out? Plus I would have to skill into an active scanner, where I already have access to adv drop uplinks.

Interesting. Thank you for the information.

I'm 3/1/3 in precision, dampening, and range respectively. I found that it made a huge difference to my gameplay, and I often fit a advanced or basic precision module on my suits (Gal logi and assaults). I like seeing people through walls, and it has saved me many times. Occasionally led me to my death when I *didn't* see someone, but well worth it for the neat ambushes I have set up.
I really need to hoard up my SP to put the points in there...but there are so many neat other choices too!

If you're running an Assault suit, you should probably start off with uplinks then after your first death switch to the scanner. Yes, it does mean your gun is not out for the time it takes to scan (around 2-3 seconds) but the intel you gain is worth the incovenience. Just don't pull it out if someone is within 10m of you lol.
But I shouldn't be telling you what to skill into and what not to skill into. However, I've never thought that precision enhancement or range amplification was worthwhile for medium suits because of the very limited gain. Active scanners will always have better range and better scan precision, allowing you to detect more dampened enemies from farther away, at the expense of an equipment slot. This info is also shared with your squad and can earn you assist points. Passive scanning has weak range, low precision, and is of no benefit to the rest of your squad, nor will it earn you points.
Consider also that nearly every squad runs a scanner. Nearly no one runs range amplifiers or precision enhancers. There's a reason for this. |

Active scanners: Con equipment slot
Pro Better range then maxed out passive scan Better precision then maxed out passive precision One skill not two. Get WP points.

Despite my earlier comment, this is pretty accurate. It occurs to me that I'm also completely addicted to my advanced scanner and run it on nearly every suit. While I haven't gained mad points from it, it has made a difference between wins and losses for our team before--it assumes running with a good squad, of course. My passive scans lets me see them coming, and if I panic I highlight and run to the comforting arms of my squadmates, who make the bad people go away.

I use an enhancer on a few suits, mostly when I have an open high slot on my Amarr suits and not enough PG/CPU to put anything else there. It helps a little but it's not going to change your life or anything.
