Much better review than many of the old ones... I did like the screencap - 'Covenant' C-I suggests this wasn't a fresh alt.

I agree with most of the things it said.
This game is subpar right now.

The Tac used in the vid hasn't had 30 rounds per mag since 1.2 or 3 iirc.
Doesn't mean that the written piece is not based on 1.7. Since it does not discuss any changes specifically, or provide any hint that the game is, in fact, developing, one cannot tell either way though.

New players get it rough, to be sure, but I think he was still a little angry at the game when he made the review. Just look at one of his "pros":
Quote:With cooperative teammates, it's occasionally a reasonable facsimile of better shooters
That's such a backhanded compliment. It's like saying of a girl "with enough make-up I'd think about banging her with the lights off if she let me call her by her sister's name."
When two teams are both pushing letters and both competent, the game is a lot of fun. It's just too rare and new players are always going to get shafted with the current matchmaking.

Well, what can ye do? When this game eventually transitions to a new platform (My money's on PS4, but P.C. would be nice too) there'll be an upswing in the population. As it stand for a game with virtually no advertising, it's done all right. |

Planetside 2 is at 4k.
Only a handfull of wildly succesfull games like Team Fortress 2 muster significantly higher numbers than that (42k avg.).
Edit: Yes, PC and consoles don't compare very well and steam is not representing the whole playerbase. "Pathetic" seems still off.

I see nothing wrong with this review.
He never lied, and it is basically accurate. The one aspect of the game he didn't touch upon was the community. That is a shame because that's the best draw this game has over other shooter facsimiles (and they all are).

meh, the reviwer didn't touch on corps, alliances, pc, faction warefare, or vehicles, different roles, different playstyles, customizable fittings, what has been changed since gamespot's release review in June for better or for worsewhere it was rated a 6/10 instead of the current 4/10.
Dust does need better balance, better matchmaking, and better progreesion style for new players who aren't willing to grind for weeks to get decent gear. That being said, dust is nowhere near as bad as the reviewer makes it out to be. He was some how dissapointed that a futuristic FPS used infantry and tanks. Really half assed it.

Agreed . You REALLY can't deny anything that writer spoke of and if you do I suggest you find him on Twitter or Face book and get your @$$ made a fool of in a public forum for the world to see so we can ALL laugh at that .

I don't know about that . I played a game yesterday and spawned into an area where this entry team was hacking a clone bank and the guy that was doing so was floating in mid air , I mean like he was stuck to the reanimation unit . So I started to fire scrambler rounds into him and NO DAMAGE registered . Kept on til his team-mate came around the corner with a Boundless HMG and started unloading into me and THAT took forever to kill me and I had on a starter fit and he was right up on me , after I died I seen the hack , come down off of the cloud that he was on being posted up on the reanimation unit and they ran off together .
There are still a lot of problems with this game .

It is sad that with all these additions we have lost two point's of over all score with gamespot from a 6 to a 4..
But it's hard to pick at much..
Quote:"The gameplay's more tangible issues are too numerous to recount in full. Battlegrounds are too large for the player count, resulting in long stretches where enemies are nowhere to be found. They're wastelands of muddy industrial sameness, with no attention to scale or flow. Paths dead-end nonsensically. Ladders and hallways lead to empty rooms devoid of relation to objectives or tactics. Weapon types are tremendously imbalanced. Audio effects sound cheap and have little relevance to the direction or proximity of their source. Dips in the frame rate result in distant enemies frequently looking like they're moving in stop-motion. The list goes on, but the problems run deeper"
"Games like Halo and Call of Duty may be more limited in scope than Dust 514, but they can stave off any existential dread through the excitement and immediacy of their combat. Dust can make no such claims. Its poor gameplay is a taint that spreads upward from the roots" Nick Capozzoli
summs up a lot of the forums rants about DUST. |

Gee, I had no idea that dust (the game I've enjoyed playing for over a year now) was so terrible.
lol, I played CoD MW 3 for a month and a half (the first time I ever played the franchise) before I got board and never played CoD again.
I will admit that some time CCP progress at developing this game really pisses me off, but none-the-less they're actively progressing. It may take a while longer, but I think that eventually they will get to a petty grooms place with dust.

He obviously never got to communicate with an EVE pilot in faction Warfare, tell them what district to go to, wait patiently for them to connect, and then drop an orbital on 7 guys and a tank right before they were about to take an objective.
The first time I figured out how to do this I haven't played anything but FW since. It's just TOO fun to know that an ACTUAL PLAYER in SPACE is up there shooting lasers down at the planet.
Might have also played day 1 after the patch. I was having serious framerate issues then too. He also didn't talk about the community much. That's another thing that got me hooked on this game.

However, and i might be wrong about this, the wording of that sentence leads me to believe that he is talking about a very specific issue that was really obvious and omnipresent at the time it existed.
Here's the gist: Players, be it on foot or in a vehicle, that are far away from your perspective would have an overall jittery, or "stop motion" like movement. It seamed as if they were rendered with much less fps than the rest of the scene. While this looks like a "frame dip" at a glance the reality was that the client simply wasn't properly interpolating the positional data sets of objects so that their movement would be really non-fluent. Dropships would not fly accross the sky, they would "teleport" in small, consistent steps 10-15 times per second until they are close enough for the visual interpolation to kick in.
The interesting part is: It's an old and solved issue. This particular thing does no longer happen; hasn't happened for months (that's maybe why you haven't come across it, I don't know how long you've been playing). Yet it appears to me that's what he's describing.
Add to that the fact that all the footage provided with the article is around 5-6 months old (pre-pre nerf tac, pre 1.7 tanks) and I can't help but wonder whether the article is really based on 1.7 or at the very least 1.6.

Hit the nail on the head the game's enjoyable but the negatives limit the game from greatness, especially the mention of the map design and player counts.
A strange game.

Wait wait... you don;t get slide shows and rubber banding in dust? when the frame rate starts dipping from equipment and fire fights and vehicle spams everyone at long range starts skipping making fluid aim extremely hard.
sigh. sometimes I think people are playing another game.

Yes I do but what i'm describing is neither a fps dip nor rubberbanding. I explicitly said so in my description.
