At closer ranges your AR (or Blaster Rifle as I like to call it) should be doing more DPS than any of the other assault rifle class. However the Blaster Rifle is also the shorted ranged of the assault rifle class. 8( That's why I hate CCP for screwing us over by having us skill into limited selections of equipment and then not letting us respec when they finally come out with the full selection of guns. Had I had the choice I would have skilled into the Combat Rifle from the get go. Now I have over 2 million wasted skillpoints on my character that I'll never use again. 8( As for your problem (assuming you are loyal to Gallente Blaster Rifles and don't want to switch), it's not more shields that you need, but more DPS combined with better tactics. Don't charge into the enemy, lure them around a corner or through a doorway or similar tight spot to you where you wait with your sights already trained onto them. This works outdoors too as none of the terrain is flat. Just duck around a hill or ust the rise as cover as they crest the hill, again with your sights trained upon their position as they come. You won't get all of them all the time, but you will be able to take a lot of them with you if you do it right.

If you're using the AR as you did before, expect to get "eaten up". IMO, you need to change the way you engage targets in 1.7 -- get closer with the AR.

That's where you enlist a dropship to put you and five others right on the objective inside your CQC optimal.

The new guns are nice, but I'm still killing guys using them with my AR so it is not useless. I'm actually using a 'dren' assault rifle mostly lol.

Then whence SP at all? Shouldn't they just set a few standard weapons and armor thingees (etc.) and everyone have access to them all off the bat? Big red button that respecs your SP on demand. Protos only get points from killing protos.

My buddy is running around with a basic CR, but with Prof 5. I run around with RR of all types and have prof 4. Did you ask people what levels they had?

On a side note, I have a little over 2 mil into Assault rifles and I still kill people just as well with my trusty Exile.

If you're getting torn to shreds, its not by someone only spending 12k sp to unlock the gun... AR's are also far from useless, but you need to get in close. If you haven't studied CCP's rifle range comparison i suggest you do so. AR no longer win the 'not long range' game. Now you actually have to know your weapon and fight battles on your terms. AR = short range CR = short - medium range SR = medium - long range RR = long range I'll bet your 'shooting bbs' because your engaging targets outside your optimal range. I get slaughtered by the combat rifle at close range and by the rail rifle at long range as it should, be diversity Is good. The AR is still great at the midrange and on my Lt nothing deals better than running around going positive in my staff suit with my staff AR and going positive in a match (6/5)

Not sure if its the size of my TV or the large amounts of beer & cheeba I consume well playing lol I did buy a new dualshock, that helped!! Lots of time I joke, if you been killed by me you must be doing something wrong

Today I ran a series of Starter + BPO suits to take advantage of the No ISK spent ability that some of us have to make ISK and was shocked at how quickly my Exile AR with 3x Militia Light Damage Modifier ripped apart any dropsuit. Just as quick as a combat rifle or rail rifle of similar meta levels I managed to enjoy myself going after proto bears and on several occasions (Meta 1 or 0 only fits) managed to get over 1500 wp running both my dragonfly scout and my minmatar starter fits. Skill and practice will save you more than your equipment, and if you have to rely on equipment, it may be better to rely on a LogiBro and go plate heavy, there are lots of people out there willing to rep your armor if you just ask or find an armor repairing Nanohive. Only when I was being protostomped did I pull out the assault starter fit, and feel like I was part of the big boys too. I normally run a mass driver or shotgun on a scout, so I know how it feels to be torn apart like tissue paper just trying to peak out around a corner. With that frailty in mind, I say that the other rifles aren't over powered, they are just different, and I can tell you that they cut me down just as slow/fast as the AR or Scrambler ever did. I think that what you are seeing is really just diversification. There were only a limited number of options to go with before for the range or style of combat (i.e. AR, SCR, Snipe, SMG). Of these options, two had blatant faults that made them more situation.
