This has been talked about to death - the simplest idea is to have each equipment variant's cap apply to all equipment of that type. i.e. If you have 3 nanohives of any variants placed and you try to place a 4th nanohive of any variant that has a limit of 3 active, the 1st disappears. Same with uplinks. If you try to place a new uplink with a limit of 2 when you already have 3 out, the first 2 uplinks placed disappear. How is this complicated? Surely this is how it was initially intended when the equipment limits were created?
Edit - and not just for PC but all game modes.

There's a vehicle limit. I don't see a problem with an equipment limit.
If I play PC off my local server, I simply cannot enter the indoors areas. If sacrificing some WP can end this, I'm all for it.
No.

All sane players agree on this. However CCP refuses to acknowledge it needs to be addressed and has some great grand plan we may see soon (tm).
CCP give us a present for the holidays and fix this!

CCP give us a present for the holidays and fix this! It was kinda alluded to in the CCP Remnant interview but he mentioned attempting to reduce spam by applying CPU/PG adjustments, which will not have any impact when you can just switch suits and spam different variants to death like is done currently.

I gotta know something......
Is it simply uplink spam that you all despise, or do you feel that hives and the like are also part of the problem? I ask simply to understand where the actual line in this argument is, if there is one at all. I've never heard of someone upset about hives unless it was because they couldn't set an order on the objective (inconvenience, not problem), but regularly hear that uplinks are evil.
Thanks in advance, I have asked this before and just curious and interested in the responses. |

Thanks in advance, I have asked this before and just curious and interested in the responses. Hives are also complained about and definitely part of the problem. They increase lag and especially with triage hives can make it almost impossible to take out anyone in the area. Also, they make explosive spam a constant barrage too!

Are you complaining about some tactical advantage or simply an increase in lag?
if it's the latter CCP could fix it by reducing the (actual) CPU cost of equipment by simplifying its animation. |

Read the Remnant interview. He alludes to increasing fit costs to "keep it in the hands of the specialists", which I've advocated for a long time. *pats self on back*
It's all part of the logi "fix" they've been talking about for a few months now.

It's all part of the logi "fix" they've been talking about for a few months now. That change will not stop spam, it'll just make it so that people will have to swap suits in order to be able to spam just as much as they do already.
@skihids - the tactical advantage is as much a problem as the lag because it's clearly circumventing the limits that CCP designed into the game to promote situational tactics. Spam is not situational whether it's tanks, uplinks or grenades.

Or CCP just cuts down on random particle effects and reduces the enormous map sizes :/ equipment is pretty important to the meta-game of the game right now. I mean, sure there could be a limit but if you think about it, the system could still be abused pretty bad, and honestly im not even sure if that would fix the problem. Perhaps they should just make special exceptions for graphics once certain conditions are met? For example, once 50+ pieces of equipment are placed, all the particle effects for them turn off and are replaced with a simple "ring" outline on the ground showing where the effect starts to work. This way the PS3 wouldn't have to worry about rendering all this equipment and therefore lag would be reduced.
This sort of thing happens in EVE online as well. as more people load into the same system, something called "time dialation" takes effect. This system 'slows down" time in order for the server to have an easier time loading all the data in one spot and make it easier on other peoples computers.
Obviously we cant have time dilation in an FPS, but we can have things like "reduced particle effects" as more things are happening at once.
