Like I said , five shots and your dead and sometimes it's less than that .
It doesn't matter how many HP's you have and even if your a Heavy , the same can be said .
If you can't run your done and there's NO longevity in these matches , it's just get shot and die and watch the clone count decrease .
Seven , Eight and sometimes even a Thousand HP's don't even matter so why try to place extra " buffers " between yourself and the inevitable ???
Placed most of my skill points into my core and to place any scanner on my fits would compromise me , skill increases really don't help my suit scanner so to place any of the mods that came with the skill set would compromise me again . Seems that was the ONLY thing that the skill set is really for , is to unlock extra mods because the increases are NOT NOTICEABLE .
Following someone around with a scanner is futile and I would have thought that addressing my core skills would actually make a difference but the only actual difference is now I can place the better mods on a fit but at a price of defense or offense but I guess if I did so I could run or prepare to fight and place myself in a better position .
With the NEW shield penalty it makes one more hurdle to jump over as well as not being able to place enough armor and armor reps on a fit . Guess if I was a Gal character then this might not be such a problem . Guess one lives ( not very long in Dust ) and one learns .

Five shots and my dead what?
More seriously though, yes, this is what everyone means when we say "TTK is too short". TTK is Time To Kill. It doesn't take long enough to kill another player. One of the great things about the game before 1.7 was always that you had enough time to figure out WHY you died in most situations.
Before, long TTK was frustrating, because a large part of the reason for it to be long was the fact that your shots weren't registering. Now, that same TTK with improved hit detection would actually be ideal. You're landing hits, but not instantly obliterating the victim of your fire. It should take a few hits from most weapons to kill. Shotguns and Sniper Rifles should still have one-shot potential in many situations, because that's their role, but the main frontline Rifles, and some of the other rapid-fire weapons, need to be toned down a little, so players can actually get hit and still have a chance to make it to cover or start returning fire before melting. |

People are melting like a snowman in the summer heat . We do have armor and shields . They show them on the actual character's suits . THEY DO NOTHING !!!!! Shield are BY FAR the weakest items on the game and break in a stone's throw . Armor is WAY STRONGER ( but it still melts easily as well ) and if you take the supposed weapons perspective's into account , none do any of what is advertised ( some better on shield's and some better on armor ) but they all kill just as fast though . It's all a joke and it's not even funny and tactic's has nothing to do with the simple fact that there are flaws that are not being addressed but instead they just make and add new ( flawed ) items into the market to divert your attention because they know how easily that most of you move away from one topic or point to another and are easily distracted as well as intercommunity insults and fighting as well .

TTK is a bit short for my taste. Another thing you have to keep in mind, "How many different people were hitting you". It seems most of us forget we are taking damage from 2 sometimes 3 or 4 sources at any given time. The problem I witnessed last night was blues running TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. It isn't hard to kill when merc are following the same path, or defending a point within the same 10-15mpath area. Once you spread out a bit and LURE the enemy into a kill zone it is much easier. Make sure you aren't the one being lured into a killzone that 3 reds are watching. |

Keep that last part in mind, it's rather important.

Like remmnant said in his interview, we don't want a TTK thats too long, it just becomes Proto Suits Bunny Hoping through scores of noobs, but at the same time we don't wan't it too short, otherwise it becomes down who gets the first shot!
It needs to be short enough, that you can be killed relatively easily when you are caught out, but long enough that firefights become drawn out, that tactics, skill, attrition, and logistics can all potentially come into play in every firefight.
Unfortunately this sweet spot is INCREDIBLY hard to find, we just have to hope CCP realise they are currently on the 'too short' end of the spectrum!

Well said, +1.
I think CCP does realize, the Devs have said as much. I think they are struggling to figure out what the sweetspot is and how can they get there without a buff/nerf/buff cycle. They want to make this a one time fix because yoyoing will ultimately cost time, money, dev, and player frustration. |

If EWAR wasn't instant win with scanners it'd be a different story. There's a killstreak in CoD: Black Ops that we call the Blackbird. Basically a recon plane that shows the exact position and movement of all enemies.
Sound familiar? Except almost every player can invest in a Quantum Active Scanner in DUST, but not everyone can get an 8 killstreak in CoD.
In this regard, CoD is actually doing better than DUST with controlling players' access to determining the enemies' movements. It is currently too easy to find people (even scouts), and as such very easy to kill them.
Secondly, TTK fluctuates from really long to really short. The new rifles allow engagements at around 50-80m, with the Rail Rifle topping at a whopping 90-100m. At these ranges, though, people can easily get away from enemy fire and pelt the enemy ineffectively with their own fire. I can stay alive for a minute or so under enemy fire at this range, just because both sides are stupidly trading fire and not moving. In close ranges, TTK is indeed short, but hell, it's meant to be. Miniscule aiming differences, and individual player movements, determine these encounters, as it should be. Modules should not mean a protostomper is guaranteed a win over a militia user if the militia guy catches the protobear in the rear.
Thirdly, grenades are still pretty damn effective. Just sayin'. I would like them to be nerfed and my reason is twofold: both so we see more variety in terms of PC grenade usage AND so we don't harm each other too much in FW/PC.

I didn't like the times when bullets hit and dealt no damage, or didn't even appear to hit when my Shotgun was point-blank practically attached to my target's face. I didn't like throwing a grenade and watching it explode with 2 - 3 people in the blast radius who took no damage. I didn't like emptying an entire AR mag into someone and only landing 3 bullets. I didn't like having to empty literally a full SMG mag then reload to get the last couple of hits that it needs to kill someone because even though I watched every bullet impact on the target, only about 10% of "hits" actually registered as damage.
Taking a decent amount of time to land a kill is good when it's for the right reasons. Bad hit detection isn't the right reasons. With hit detection fixed, toning down some of the harder-hitting full-auto weapons should allow for a good TTK instead of the previous long but not good TTK or the current too-short TTK. |

Geez. It's Eve. I would like my fitting to matter. Thing is CCP said they kinda want to do both. Not really possible if you ask me. But in a game like Dust TTK should be longer due to fittings. If you want to have a short TTK play CoD or Battlefield, where your only choice is what weapon you want. |

Anything longer than 2 seconds would start to get rediculous. The 3+ second range would require most rifles to reload at least once. Once you get into that threshold you have people dodging into cover during that period, which means you will get a lot of people waiting for their shields to reload, and we approach an extremely long TTK.

You're fudging the math. 2x Complex damage mods + Prof III (attainable even on advanced suits and low-SP players) on a 450DPS rifle = 580.5 = barely over 1 second, or much less with a few headshots thrown in there. Not to mention the fact that many players can't/don't run bricked-out suits, and therefore are sitting more around 400-500 EHP. |

While I agree with most of this, and hell, I'm a logi so I know I'm paper thin, I was one shot killed at full health by a charged Vizian(sp??) Scrambler Rifle to the body. I felt like giving up at that point. However, for the most part, I usually have a chance to jump, turn, at least engage before getting killed. I know not to run straight into fire and I NEVER go in anywhere alone. This is a team game. If you use that correctly, you'll find ttk is not that bad. I find truly balanced team on team action to be a blast.
Also, like another posted, even as a logi, I often get my kills by backing away. They think I'm an easy target and come chasing. Draw them around a corner and your choices are multiple. RE on the ground, burn a grenade to the face and in general you know exactly where their hit box is coming allowing you to do the bulk of the damage before they can line up on you.

Not sure that's quite the deal. My playstyle works really well with the strenghts of the Caldari weapons and fittings...my TTK is subjectively getting a little bit better. Duvolles still rule in short range or multiple target engagements, guys are just extending the ranges of the fights because they have the hardware to actually do it now.
I do think things need to be balanced a bit more for TTK at range vs short distance - I just want my fittings / ISK to matter a bit. |

Actually, TTK is relative in this game. If you engage someone within their optimal or effective ranges, then I would expect them to be able to deal maximum DPS upon you and thus kill you that much faster. However if you engage at longer ranges (like outside their effective range, but still within your effective or absolute ranges) then you will have enough time to not only recognize being hit, but where from, take cover, and return fire.
So basically if you like to charge in and assault at closer ranges, then you will and should die faster. If you play more tactically and engage at more reasonable ranges, then you live a hell of a lot longer.

Well said. |

Because hit detection was bad, CCP increased the damage of nearly all weapons by 10%. Now hit detection and aim assist are improved, we can take off those 10% again.
Or start with 5%. See how that goes. |

I dont play Heavy, but they seriously need a 5% per level damage reduction. They should strike fear and make you rethink your tactics with your squad. Nowadays I can solo a heavy easily.
They need more than a buffer. Weapons also need they their 10% damage buff revoked, and individual weapons rethought (ie swarm launcher, as they just had their damage nerfed.)
Either that, or the HP items needs to be rethought. 50hp difference from a basic to a complex armor plate is laughable. The 2% efficiacy bonus as well.
And why the Hell do we even have aim assist? I want a CCP answer to why they thought it was a good idea. Was it to counter lag and fps because aiming in general was bad, or was it because they thought it would add tonthe gamplay, as they sort of state in the QA dev blog? |

I'll admit you're tissue paper, but feel that is part of both of our roles. However, I think scouts get screwed over the active scanner. They should be able to beat the scanner and as it is right now, from what I've read, at max skills, you still don't beat the scanner. I think that's a mistake. A big one. One piece of equipment on my suit shouldn't be able to nullify all that. A max scanner should be able to detect a newbie scout suit but a max scanner shouldn't beat proto scout.

I rest my case. The DPS of the four racial rifles (advanced tier and assault variants) all hover around 450. A well-tanked fit has around 600-700 HP. That's about two seconds of survival in optimal range. I rest my case. I was being generous to the run-and-gun CoD players that have found their way into Dust. |
