at the moment proto swarms cost nearly as much as a mlt tank yet whenever you get them out your likely to die 2-3 times before actually getting a kill. with swarms leaving the user uber vulnerable and the fact they are severely UP now it makes using swarms expensive and not worth the trouble. the combination of changes in 1.7 has made swarms seem like throw away weapons because your not likely to survive past the first or 2nd volley yet they are too expensive to fit due to the amount of deaths your guaranteed to get by fitting them
seeing as Wiyrkomi has decided to cut the range by 60% and the damage by a 3rd. surely they should have cut the cost by at least 50% to compensate

No, swarms where good, then CCP buff'd them with the lock on time being reduced at the cost of clip size. That did end up making them OP against tanks because you could pop a tank with a single clip.. this only worked from a distance because once the first volley hits, the tank starts running away. Swarms were never that effective against dropships unless the pilot didn't fit an AB or was really kinda stupid. As for the LAVs, swarms did ok against standard and milita but it took some team work or tactics to catch a logi LAV... now swarms just make the tankers or dropships activate god mode as soon as you hit them or hit their AB or nitro and just outrun them.
The problem is the speed gltich, once CCP is done laughing about the best troll ever, they will fix their "mistake" and then we will see if swarms are still viable or not. |

swarms were great until the nerfed the clip size. sure the fast locking let me kill bad fit tanks with 3 volleys but i could do that anyway when i had 5 in my clip. the problem was it didn't let you kill the better fit tanks which on the old system used up the 5 round clip and more at times. 3 rounds became a warning sign for the good tankers who knew i was reloading and to pull back into cover. you can fire all the swarms you want now and barely scrape a tank or dropship. had 2 stacked prot swarms and a mlt shooting a ds doing little to no damage and as soon as his mods were about to go off he just increased his altitude slightly and was safe.
also the speed module issue was fixed yesterday
anyway this is besides the point. its not viable to carry a 50k isk swarm launcher when your life expectancy is about 2 seconds after using it. how can anyone see if they are viable or not if its now too expensive to use. before 1.7 you kept your distance because you were virtually defenceless. 1.7 your now in range of everything but still defenceless. using mlt is just pointless compromise as it is ineffective

Never had an issue poping tanks in PC or in pubs with my swarms before 1.7, single clip is all it ever took so long as I had the distance and worked the terran to my advantage. I tried them out for the first time in 1.7 the other day and I will agree now, swarms are usless all around now. It's almost pointless to bring them out with its current cost and the new weapons in play. Well, looks like 1.2 mill SP just became moot, guess its time to jump on the forge gun band wagon. |
