Most matches I played last night had groups of 3 to 5 tanks zooming around the map so fast they were practically doing doughnuts. Anyone have any ideas on how to counter these? We spent so much huddling inside buildings with tanks circling outside like a swarm of sharks around bait that when we were done it was decided we need to get everyone to have an AV fit available. Being a logi I've never really done AV, so I'm not really sure what kind of fit I can throw together that would actually do any damage.
Swarms - short range (a needed nerf, to make dropships more viable)...with drag racing tanks they don't seem like they'd be very effective Forge - from what I'm reading they're still decent, but not many people have the spare SP to set up a decent forge gun fit when they don't already run heavy AV nades - everyone can put these on a fit and they might be decent if a tank driver is cocky enough to stick his nose inside a structure Remotes - being sticky these might be the ideal anti-tank weapon now, if you can get close enough. Scouts might become the most effective anti tank suit. At least once the FF kick bug in FW is fixed. Proxies - are these effective at all now? Plasma cannon - this is the big one I'm wondering about, did anyone try it last night? It was the only AV that didn't get some kind of nerf so I'm having this feeling that it might be worth skilling into now.

The only meaningful way to show disapproval in this game is to log off and stay off. Turbo tanks combined with the lack of choke points and across the board AV nerf means you need a full squad (or two) to guarantee a takedown. These next few months will be all vehicles, all the time. No fun. |

The FG is still the best AV weapon especially now the Swarms got nerfed.
Unless you are dedicated to the heavy you will need teamwork to take down any half decent tanker since you're a Logi look into RE's and Proxy's along with the Plasma cannon or Swarms. Best bet is to ambush them don't fight them in the open as their speed is enough to outrun swarms if they have nitrous.
They are far from unkillable as quite a few guys will have you believe just a tad trickier (he says while sipping a fine malt by the roaring fire) best bet for combatting old Jumbo is to let him get confident and close then strike. Message me in game if you would like to team up or want any other advice.

Forget swarms and lolcannon.
Stick with AV grenades and since you're a logi, remotes.
Make a fit with scanner/remotes/nanohives/EX-11 AVs. Sneak up behind the tank, plant 3 remotes on its back, spam 3 AVs, then detonate as it tries to run away. Restock your demolitions and repeat.
Best part is that with this fit, you're still deadly to infantry, aside from carrying the AVs. |

Actually, my old proto swarm launcher is still pretty effective against all these cheap militia tanks. Not as effective as it used to be, for sure, but 3 shots (with two complex damage mods and prof.3) was enough for me to pop a sica or soma by myself.
I loved my swarm launcher, and I'm actually OK with the damage nerf, I just think the lock-on range reduction was too much. Swarms were never a reliable way to down dropships unless they were right over your head, but at least we could shoo them away from a location. All a dropship pilot has to do now is fly high enough to not get locked on to. Then we get into redline turrets and rail tanks that can now only be reached by forge guns or railgun/missile HAVs...
Instead of not being able to lock a swarm onto a target beyond 175m, I wish the lock on time just increased with range, say .1 second for every 10 meters, out to the old 400m max. It would slow the RoF down enough that any vehicle user would have time to get away after the first volley, unless a whole squad of AV player launch at once, which should be a hard counter to any vehicle anyway. |

I've only gotten four tank kills this way, all against armor tanks, but one of them hit its hardeners before I remoted and it still worked.
Against armor, 3x remotes would do 5400 HP of damage. Not sure how much would be mitigated by hardeners.
Have yet to try it against shield tanks though.

TEAMWORK, TEAMWORK, TEAMWORK,TEAMWORK,TEAMWORK,TEAMWORK,TEAMWORK AND MORE TEAMWORK.
Its simple really, should a fully proto infantryman be able to solo a tank? No (Unless its a vanilla millitia with no skills)
1 tank costs twice as much as one suit, so even taking that into consideration, you should have at least two players chasing down a tank at any one time.
If you cannot co-ordinate the lock of two swarmers on coms, then biomass and start again because its seriously not that hard.
We took down two maddys in one game, me with basic swarms and proto nades, him with a proto swarm and advanced nades.
We 'Alpha'd' the tank. (to all the non techies, its when you hit something very hard, un-expectedly) 9/10 if you manage to sneak up behind then lock and lay waste what chance has he got?
We did have a shield tank that laughed at us wholeheartedly, he was a beast so we got our own tanker in to help finish him off.
If your in a Corp that cannot 'think outside of the box' or adapt to the current battlefield scenarios, may i suggest you have a rethink about whom your playing with. |

I think I'll just repeat what I said in my first post, that we were talking about everyone getting an AV fit set up.
You know. Teamwork. The discussion was about how to approach that, the pros and cons of each AV weapon type in this build. |

There are no secrets. Swarms and AV grenades are not effective against tanks.
We had multiple guys in squad that were running proto AV, proto Forge, and we had a beast tanker on our side. It wasn't enough for 4 or 5 Sicas running around. You can get 10 feet from a tank behind cover with a nanohive and you can't throw Lai Dai Packed AV nades fast enough.

I solo killed 2 tanks in 1 match with swarms last night. Trick is to find a defensible location near routes that the HAV's take, an area somewhat isolated from infantry. Throw a hive down, and dance in and out of view. The drivers feel that they can take one guy. Shoot, duck to hide. Repeat until eventually his hardeners enter cool down, then come out and fire the full clip while dancing in the open. Boom, dead, espectially if you are close enough to use AV nades first before he drives off. 175 meters with swarms is enough to kill them even as fast as they move if you know what you're doing.
What will be your legacy? Will you rise, or will you fall?

Speed-tanked scout, av-nades & remotes. Place stickies on tank, throw av-nades, let them drive away with god-speed and boooom, +50 +150
Actually most tanker I ran into were pretty stupid and couldn't handle the speed

I haven't had the opportunity to play the new patch yet, but tanks requiring teamwork to take down sounds fun. My only concern is that driving a tank doesn't require the same level of teamwork with your squad. Are we looking at one man squads one tracks here? |

Yes, this is pretty much it. This will change things quite impressively, but it'll take some time for people on the forums to figure out. get used to seeing 5-6 tanks per side now (If CCP leaves things the way they are of course). |

Forget swarms and forges; teamwork with REs and AV grenades will be more effective and more exciting without gimping your anti-infantry capabilities. |
