That the Scrambler pistol is a laser based weapon, why does it not have any danger of overheating? All of the other laser based weapons overheat, and therefore are best utilized with Amarr tech, why not the sidearm of said grouping? This is not one of those "nerf/buff" threads, just a casual observation.... |

Why would a gun that shoots 6 times before reloading need, want, or have an over-heat?

because instead of operating on a "battery back"like the SCR and the lazor, the scram pistol uses clips that contain pre-charged capacitors.
When the clip is finished the entire assembly is ejected from the weapon housing, thus eliminating any danger of overheating |

Again like I said before, I have no problem with the pistol, nor any other gun in the game for that matter. I was just curious as to why a laser based weapon didn't overheat, assuming it drew its power from the same source as other weapons of its type. Assuming that the same power source being fitted into a smaller housing would also warrant the energy being vented at a faster rate, it makes a small bit of sense. Nothing troll about my logic, only logic about it. At best it was a question, not a suggestion. Internet slang equals for the loss.
Thank you Virtual for addressing the question itself, not making assumption on the intention. |

Well
The scram pistol is slightly different from other lazor weapons. It uses a "laser induced plasma channel". Basically when you pull the trigger, a channel of plasma is created between the muzzle of the gun and the target, then that channel of plasma is electrified rapidly using a capacitor. vaguely similar to induction heating, the heat is created inside the target, not in the device itself. Except for heat dissipated by the capacitors, the rest of the gun should be fine.

Quote:Power consumption is excessive, but is addressed via a rear-loaded fuel cell, allowing cells to be exchanged quickly and easily once exhausted. Moreover, advances in the polymers used in the weapon's construction have greatly reduced heat build-up and improved heat dissipation, resulting in improved reliability over earlier modules.
It explains why right there in the description. But if you're asking from a gameplay perspective, the answer is because it doesn't really need one to be balanced. Part of the reasoning is that these things eat through ammo like crazy.

see, the laser in the scram pistol itself it weak, it is the electrical discharge from the capacitors that actually does the damage. |

One of the downsides to my not being on the game at the same time as I am the forum, I didn't even think about reading the description haha. It only came to mind as I was going over the weapon groupings in the 1.7 weapon update post. Thanks for that info Aero. |

So it's not the flux capacitor housed inside the firing chamber just ahead of the replacable power unit? huh. |

But the SCR uses a clip aswell so why use the SCR a different technique that seem to have more drawbacks? |

I may have noticed it before, but never thought to ask about it, I generally limit my foruming to observation. The 1.7 weapon notes brought it back to my attention with the weapon group charts...Also I just got done tooling around with them in ambush before downtime (I got back online to read some weapon descriptions heh), and I did notice the heat build up effect on my sidearm alt, I have 12 or 13 shots with prof 4 and Min Assault lvl 4... |

The fuel cells that are loaded into the scrambler pistol are small and complex to build, as it is basically loads in the actual firing mechanism of the gun. Because of this, the scrambler pistol can only be semi-automatic, can not charge its shots and has a very small clip size. Up-scaling this technology to accommodate the rate of fire and size of a scrambler rifle would be too complicated and expensive to reasonably manufacture.
And it's not completely inferior to the scrambler pistol system. You get more ammunition, you can charge your shots and do more damage when the scrambler rifle has a built-in fuel cell system.

The SP technically isn't even a laser based weapon. It used a laser, but thats not where the damage comes from. It is essentially, a tazer gun.
That's why you get bonus damage to the brain because the electric shock scrambles your brain.
Why not have the SCR operate using the same method? Interesting question. I would say that since the the SP ejects the entire assembly to deal with over heating issues, the SCR would have to do the same.
But since the SCR is so much larger, ejecting the entire assembly to deal with heating issues would not only be cost-ineffective, you would also have to cary around many clips of the weapons entire assembly.
This would be extremely cumbersome seeing as a commando suit is just a heavy suit modified so that it can carry 2 light weapons, carrying multiple SCR assemblies on a medium suit would render you almost immobile. |
