because instead of operating on a "battery back"like the SCR and the lazor, the scram pistol uses clips that contain pre-charged capacitors.
When the clip is finished the entire assembly is ejected from the weapon housing, thus eliminating any danger of overheating |

Well
The scram pistol is slightly different from other lazor weapons. It uses a "laser induced plasma channel". Basically when you pull the trigger, a channel of plasma is created between the muzzle of the gun and the target, then that channel of plasma is electrified rapidly using a capacitor. vaguely similar to induction heating, the heat is created inside the target, not in the device itself. Except for heat dissipated by the capacitors, the rest of the gun should be fine.

see, the laser in the scram pistol itself it weak, it is the electrical discharge from the capacitors that actually does the damage. |

The SP technically isn't even a laser based weapon. It used a laser, but thats not where the damage comes from. It is essentially, a tazer gun.
That's why you get bonus damage to the brain because the electric shock scrambles your brain.
Why not have the SCR operate using the same method? Interesting question. I would say that since the the SP ejects the entire assembly to deal with over heating issues, the SCR would have to do the same.
But since the SCR is so much larger, ejecting the entire assembly to deal with heating issues would not only be cost-ineffective, you would also have to cary around many clips of the weapons entire assembly.
This would be extremely cumbersome seeing as a commando suit is just a heavy suit modified so that it can carry 2 light weapons, carrying multiple SCR assemblies on a medium suit would render you almost immobile. |
