i dont bother looking for them, i can tell where they are based on where i am when i get hit + how my ship moves from the shot, then just deny them a target.
them sitting alone in their redline tank away from all targets means one less man on the field.
its more advantagious to let them live back there doing nothing then to kill them off. |

its just kinda odd the hate that inspires folks to grab a squad of 6 and charge at a tank before it fires a shot :P
not only that dedicating 6 people to kill what is essentially a person acomplishing nothing useful (redline tank) is well... a poor use of resources... hes much more valuble to the enamy team alive then he is dead and repawning as infantry that might actually acomplish something.

They're only invisible if you're hiding in the redline. They literally couldn't survive 30 meters from a tank if that's where it was parked. Redline tactics are always the most cowardly tactic. It's like throwing water balloons out of the window of your bedroom at the kids outside knowing they can only hit you through a window when you choose to appear in it. If one would want to rail tank without being a coward, stay out of the redline. |

I find red line tanks to be cheapass scrub tactics, with that said, they are usually not very observant "see snipers" and I can frequently drive into red with my lav blow them away and drive out... But it largely depends on the map because of terrain. |

so youve never been in a rail tank :P
they are invisable no matter where you are it has nothing to do with the redline :P
visual range is a crapshoot after the 20m mark they may or may not render past that.
while int he redline they cant see you they cant shoot you. they are literally dead weight to the team and are most oftin there trying to ditch the blueberrys out of the tank so they can recall and run on the ground :P |

I can't stand to think that I'm just a fish in a barrel for someone not participating in a game more than sitting in the redline, be it a sniper or tanker. I get why people do it and I admit I snipe form the red when being proto stomped occasionally. The thing about tanks in the redline that make it so much worse is that you can't counter them any other way than dedicating multiple people to the cause or kamikaze drops hip tactics. They can't be counter sniped with a headshot or one hitted (unless maybe by a tank) and most AV is worthless since it can just back up out of view and repair itself. This annoys me more than most things in this game because tanks are already hard to kill without them being able to hide behind redlines. |

relyably no
visual range on infantry has a soft cap at around 120m, and a hard cap of 200m.
reliably sight range is only 20m however as thats when infantry is 90% guarenteed to render (still not 100%)
a redline rail tank cant see you.
whats more cowardly, being a redline railtank that cant shoot anything? or being invisable while you kill said railtank if he leaves teh redline :P
you claim that its cowardly to attack when what your attacking cant retaliate, and yet thats EXACTLY what AV guys are doing to railtanks in the first place. |

Because, if they are given proper rendering, they are virtually unkillable while still possessing dominating killing power, also they are cowards for abusing the redline.
They're essentially redline Thale-Heavys that can destroy vehicles as well as infantry and are much much much harder to kill.
Think about it: infantry can't effectively harm them because that would require either redlining the enemy or sneaking behind enemy lines, with an AV weapon mind you. LAVs and tanks cannot because the tank can easily destroy them with it's good vantage point, not to mention trying to get past all the AV happy infantry, and dropships have insufficient DPS against tanks and are pretty much worthless if the driver has any sort of AV on him. An orbital may be your best bet, but the cowardly tanker always has his thumb poised for backing out of any sort of threat that might scratch his precious little tank.
The problem is that they have no counter. If we were given something that can do a lot of damage to a stationary target, like a torpedo or bomb, or if fitting a rail required a cut to defenses or speed or something, then the would be balanced. But there's just nothing that the feasibly do anything to not even kill, but at least check them.

you are either a really bad railgun tanker or you're new at it. Because the redline is terrible mechanic in a game about risk-reward. The redline allows people (most notably and prolifically Thales snipers in heavy suits) to engage the enemy with the minimum risk: they have a barrier that denies enemy action (the redline will kill the enemy, preventing seek-and-destroy missions); they can project their power with no penalty (snipers and Railguns are the long range weapons, naturally and that's fine, but thye get a free safety net for their already less risky tactics.)
The redline does have an upside...it stops the enemy from slaughtering a completely dominated opposition. Oh wait, it doesn't, it just makes it slower. I'm all for giving a beaten down team a chance, but there must be a better way than providing an extremely resilient buffer for snipers.
I don't want to declare all snipers as coward, but snipers that claim that they should be able to utterly dominate a map, with enough power to one-shot infantry whilst simultaneously having a zone in which they can hide from retribution makes me have an extremely low opinion of snipers (infantry and vehicle alike.) |
