You're basically sticking a banner over your head saying "I really really don't want to die!". to be fair i diddnt go into the redline untill i had no shields left, you would be amazed what punishment 7600 shields can take :P no shields left after taking extreme amounts of fire from invisable infantry :P when i can see them they eat a rail shot :P whats more cowardly? running from an invisable enamy? or being an invisable enamy?
They're only invisible if you're hiding in the redline. They literally couldn't survive 30 meters from a tank if that's where it was parked. Redline tactics are always the most cowardly tactic. It's like throwing water balloons out of the window of your bedroom at the kids outside knowing they can only hit you through a window when you choose to appear in it. If one would want to rail tank without being a coward, stay out of the redline. |

If you weren't in the redline to start with then you weren't a redline tank. In which case what do you expect people to do but shoot at you? its just kinda odd the hate that inspires folks to grab a squad of 6 and charge at a tank before it fires a shot :P not only that dedicating 6 people to kill what is essentially a person acomplishing nothing useful (redline tank) is well... a poor use of resources... hes much more valuble to the enamy team alive then he is dead and repawning as infantry that might actually acomplish something.
I can't stand to think that I'm just a fish in a barrel for someone not participating in a game more than sitting in the redline, be it a sniper or tanker. I get why people do it and I admit I snipe form the red when being proto stomped occasionally. The thing about tanks in the redline that make it so much worse is that you can't counter them any other way than dedicating multiple people to the cause or kamikaze drops hip tactics. They can't be counter sniped with a headshot or one hitted (unless maybe by a tank) and most AV is worthless since it can just back up out of view and repair itself. This annoys me more than most things in this game because tanks are already hard to kill without them being able to hide behind redlines. |

visual range on infantry has a soft cap at around 120m, and a hard cap of 200m.
reliably sight range is only 20m however as thats when infantry is 90% guarenteed to render (still not 100%)
a redline rail tank cant see you.
whats more cowardly, being a redline railtank that cant shoot anything? or being invisable while you kill said railtank if he leaves teh redline :P
you claim that its cowardly to attack when what your attacking cant retaliate, and yet thats EXACTLY what AV guys are doing to railtanks in the first place.
so to you AV guys who hate railtanks.... you are what you hate
I'll apologize then for what I said about rail tanks. I did not know that they literally would not be able to see someone 20m. If this is true then they're clearly not as cowardly as a redline sniper but I do think its a really stupid gameplay strategy past destroying installations.
I still disagree that it's more cowardly to attack the tank. It would be like me entering a match and only face down and call people a coward for killing me when I can't see them. It should not be the responsibility of the AV user to be within 20m before he attacks when they start in the heat of battle to begin with. If rail tanks truly can't see like you're telling me then they're just as slelf hindering as the infantry running around with his head down. Call it free WP, but it doesn't make me a coward for going for them when no one is making them play this way. |

I'm one of the most experienced pilots in Dust, and yet railgun redline tanks two-shot me before I can change direction / accelerate away, from across the entire map... redline to redline. I just find redline railgun tankers to be cowards and everytime I fly into the redline, take you lot down to barely any health before the timers out, you end up recalling the bloody tank. It's just cowardice. Lol you obviously haven't been playing long.
Out of all of the drops hip pilots I've played with foxhound is definitely the best. Not saying there isn't someone better but he is very good at flying and I value his input on the matter. |

You're basically sticking a banner over your head saying "I really really don't want to die!". Cowardly, hah. I redline sniped yesterday, given my team was redlined, and murdered some tanks and dropships. You know, during the revolutionary war, the British called the Americans cowardly for not standing in nice neat rows to be fired upon. We adopted battle tactics from our native american allies and enemies. Attacking from where you cannot be seen, or fired back upon. Cowardly, haha. It's war, play to win, or go home. It's a game. You're basically sticking a banner over your head saying "I really really don't want to die!". Cowardly does not apply to this or any video game. Stop using that term ppl. It is about ppl wanting to play this game for fun and play it as effectively as they can without running in and getting shot over and over as a vanilla assault. That is boring and dumb. But that is what basic infantry is forGǪ cannon fodder. Most ppl would rather play smarter, not harder and use a game to prove there manhood. You don't have to run into gun fire to be a man. Don't like redline tactics? Blame CCP. Don't like that the only way to really win a game is to hack, hack, hack objectives? Blame CCP. Most ppl like to have fun with other stuff in this game. Redline rail tanking is legitimate for a long range tank. It's the damn maps that need expanding to allow for proper vehicle maneuvering instead of essentially spinning donuts around and around in a bowl shaped killbox. Redline rail tanks are the artillery units of this game and have their purpose. You can't really shoot a dropship down when you are out in the middle of a map. LAVs are easier to hit at a distance.
Well with that argument people may as well boost or logi spam instead since it is more effective than rail tanking. There is a balance between fun and efficient ways to gain SP/ISK/victory etc. No one runs around with RE or nova knives because it is the most effective way to play. They do it because its more fun than an optimized WP strategy. Cowardly methods for achieving the same goals would be the ways that clearly value efficiency or defense more than fun or usefulness. Clearly a nova knifer is more brave in this sense than someone farming nano hives in the redline with a teammate. Moving gently along the spectrum of tactics you find rail tanks in the redline far from PLC and nova knives.
Also long range doesn't mean you have to hide behind the redline. There are many places with better angles than the redline near ground spawns but you don see rail tanks there. People just stay there to be protected by it. No other reason. |
