Sorry, I don't support ideas like patriotism. Things like Purl Harbor and 9/11 have about as much value to me as the amount I deligate to the millions of people who die every day, for various reason, which is very little. One day I will die. One day you will die. The world spins on.

I'm sure that the Chinese, Filipinos, etc. provoked Imperial Japan to attack them as well. Amusing how both attackers were met with swift destruction... |

Perhaps not, but can you tell me the date the pompeii eruption occured, off the top of your head? Also, when was the last time that the date of pompeii or other natural disasters, such as Mount Saint Hellen, was posted on this forum? Who here want to beat me that the OP is an American who was feel very patriotic when he/she posted the OP. do you really expecte to believe that this thread was posted for purely acedemic reasons?

Apples to Oranges. Pompeii was destroyed around the first century. Your point? I haven't been on the forums long enough to see if the recent typhoons, or major earthquakes were discussed. As to being a "patriotic" American, I guess I'm guilty as charged. I'd love to know what country you hail from. Chances are good that American blood was spilled there (or foreign aid rendered) at some point. If the Mandela thread existed, then there is no reason that this thread should not also exist. Shall we go on? |

1. I am an American living in AZ sir.
2. My point about natural disasters was that we do not keep forcing every body to morn the victims seventy years later.
3. I never said that I wanted this thread removed (frankly I couldn't care less). The reason for my ignorance of the date I inquired about was call into question. I simply gave a truthful answer.

"To all those that have fallen" referring to 9/11. Talk about being crass.
Oh well, continue on with your politicization of a game forum.

To expect all people to know the historical information taught in every part of the world is not reasonable to assume. Given that historians rarely agree on many points, and one can devote their entire life to learning history and never know everything, I would say it is reasonable to treat peoples honest questions with a level of respect and be open to understanding that not everyone has learned the same things with the same focus. Why assume that everyone knows the historical significance of events that may not have been taught in their classrooms?

Not every bodies public education system is US centric Who knew that historical data was a US monopoly... Textbooks of other countries tend to focus more on the history of that country. So while Pearl Harbor may be recorded in the textbooks of other nations, it won't be treated as such a big important date that one would be expected to memorize for non USA people. Do you know the year of the Boxer Rebellion? or when Khmer Rouge lost power off the top of your head? I'm sure its in your history books as well, but its unfair to just expect you to know the date of every big event from every country. The USA does not get special treatment with its major events. Don't be so self centered as to expect everyone to know your country's important dates. Its pretty damn arrogant.
I reported this thread, it is completely irrelevant to Dust, dead celebrities, patriotic mourning (of people who would have died of old age by now anyway), and other stuff like this does not belong in general section.
Also, why the hell is 9/11 even in the title? What the hell?

You are right, I failed to realize that the date "December 7, 1941" would be taught differently all over the world. I forgot how much disagreement and dispute historians have over that date. I mean, after all, that event kicked off a series of events which affected people living on at least 4 continents. I can see why would that wouldn't be included in their lessons.
Given that the person who asked the question has already outed himself as an "american" and thus subject to the same "regional" education as myself, your strawman argument is a bit irrelevant. |
