From 4000 to 3300. 700 players lost? It is probably a multiple of 700 since these graphs only shows concurrent online players.

Well they did go somewhere else. One plausible place is PS4. Another one is PC. Others might have stayed on the PS3 but stopped playing due to 1.7? I dont know for sure.

get me an xbox 1 a ps4 all the games i want for those systems including all the others and i just might consider quitting dust.
as i dont really having anything to do but either go back to boring games ive beaten 100% over and over again. or play dust 514.
and listen and laugh at all the stupidity that goes on. |

You really aren't dumb enough to not realize that there are seasonal variations based upon time of year that affects those numbers also, right?

Numbers tend to fluctuate on weekly basis.
Also recall for university that exams are coming up, final projects due, and various things are wrapping up.
Assuming you have a medium sized portion of the community, many just be too busy to play.
Not to mention that numbers for any game are historically lowest in the period right before a major patch, as many people don't care about current content with new content being so close on the horizon. |

The effects of the PS4 won't be felt until after the year.
DUST is losing players a steady rate and will continue to do so for multiple reasons internal and external.
Honestly, there is nothing that will make this game as popular as it's counterpart EvE. If CCP continues to push forward on the game, knowing that not enough people will play it to turn profit, that's up to them. But less players will lead to more problems, especially in match making and lag.
Like Homefront, when it's servers were empty of players, I was playing against Americans, Australians, and British people in the same game, which made for terrible lag.
If CCP actually does decide to put DUST 514 on the PS4, they should have started to do so about six years ago. But the game isn't even finish and working on PS3, so PS4 certainly won't be anytime this decade.
DUST 514 is considered a failure. It will go down like Homefront, Sega Dreamcast, Atari Jaguar, etc... People seem to forget that their are plenty of video game failures; as not all ideas and titles can be smash successes or sustainable. CCP said they were "laser focused" on the PS3, which is very short sighted and will do even more to detract new players.
DUST's top players are migrating off the game little by little. A game needs top players to set an example. People like CUBS, ReYGunmnmynmn, DJNN Maurdereerrer, etc... are all players that others look up to. If they leave the game, less people stay interested. It would be no different than if CoD's top players decided to stop playing CoD for something else... it does sway people.
DUST was poorly planned and executed. Before, players (myself included) said it had "potential"... but now the sand is more at the bottom of the hourglass than the top. Wishful thinking and potential weren't enough to save this game. It wasn't a bad showing on behalf of CCP. How many companies can build a game they know nothing about from scratch and actually get people to play it?
Look at the current 1.7 patch release. That's a huge change to the game. The FW component is very major, as it really plays to the players who are into the immersion factor of the game. If there are EvE players who don't really want to play DUST, they might after 1.7. On paper: DUST 514 will go down as a spectacular game. In reality: it was downward spiral of wasted potential and poor project management. A case where the book is better than the movie...

I dunno mate, it's up and down. And remember that we're in the last week before patch now, so a drop is natural. We'll get a wee bump next week and it'll be all over the place over the holidays as people are either busier or have more time off to play. Come January is when we'll see the real impact, especially since everyone will have new Christmas goodies to play with and there'll be a lot more next gen owners out there with their new pressies.

Go and try and buy a PS4... in any region... if you don't have double to triple to money to blow on it you won't get it. Then see how many actually sold... small market to detract from DUST populace.

Never compare just two samples when determining trends.
Look at the EVE numbers since december 2nd. Note that they have the same relative drop at the exact same time.
You don't think that's the PS4 aswell, do you?

Much of that drop happened in the first month or so and has evened out considerably over the last couple. Churn does not occur in a linear manner; much more a logarithmic one and we seem to be about where the bottom of the curve is.

while i agree not developing on the PS4 was a massive bad logic fumble (see: big bang theory with its small viewer numbers can charge more for its advert space then x-factor beucase its small number will ALL be the same type of people :P)
and with 0 comp dust could have gained a thousands of players due simply due no freaking games being ready on the console but meh the most dust screws up the better WoD will be from lessions learned :P

No offense to any of the players mentioned above, but really? How many people playing this game personally know or have ever hung out with CUBS, Reygnum or DJINN Maurderer?
There are some to be sure, but people play games to play with their friends. I know no one who plays FPS games because someone they don't know online also plays it.
I am very concerned that the limited content and piecemeal development of this game is limiting it's growth, but DUST's future isn't tied to a handful of players interest. CCP needs to realize that and start addressing the concerns put out by players who are trying to bring their friends into the game and failing.
How many people have earned the recruiter rewards? There will probably be more people earning it thru grinding out alt accounts than those who were able to bring in new blood.
