It can be SP, WP, time played, but put something for 2 reasons: 1) Griefers 2) Blueberries
No one can stop someone to create new alt everyday, an entrance barrier is needed.
Same thing for friendly blue, they are unaware, totally unaware of what happen around them, make them play public contracts till they understand the basics, like that they have to hack things or move to objectives if they want to win a match.

I like this idea MAG got it right by not letting newberries fight along side the vets until they had a chance, I cant remember exactly but I think you had to be level 7 or 8 before you could play on sabo or dom .

The entrance barrier will be newbies who suddenly realize that they get no isk from FW matches. They are always scraped for cash as it is, and when they divide their time for FW, they won't want to play it much.
You very litterally will only be able to play FW for as long as your savings hold out. The people who have developed a reserve have an advantage at the moment though. |

Academy is a joke, you can graduate before understanding the game mechanics, but NPE is another argument. The game is not so easy for new players, put an entrance barrier in FW would be good for us and for them. For us because we can play more freely, for them because they will not enter in a even more difficult game mode.

Nullarbor, I think that Shaman had the best idea ever, you should raise the WP required to join a FW match. That would solve the griefing problem (almost) entirely.
Please, do it.

If.... CCP make FW like:
- You can join FW 'mission' depend of your loyality level +1 (eg.. you just start .. only 1 level mission are awaiable to you)
there will be 'perfect' self barier to 'protect' precious stuff at hi levels. If someone be 'pain', he just dont go for better missions and dont do there any harm.
There is same barrier in eve.

You do realize that the requirements to graduate are a joke? Honestly i have seen this happening two times with friends of mine, they graduate easy with some input by me (do this, hack that, rep him, etc), get out of FW and start pub and fw, get stomped, give up, uninstall.
Academy NEEDS a higher WP to graduate from. I really dont understand how you guys dont see whats happening with new players giving up.

Raise the Academy cap to 50k WP and restrict players from joining FW until they have 250k WP.

Player should stay in academy until they reach something like 2.000.000 sp OR at least 30.000 wp. There must be a treshold but 1500 wp is a JOKE ! I remember doing something like 1600wp with my freshly created scout alt on my first game.
The best would be a training ground where corp member the experience could play WITH the newcomers. So they could share their knowledge and help them. With each squad limited to 2 veteran players max.
As an exemple, they would be limited to militia / standard dropsuit modules and weapons. The passive like weapons, shield and armor would give them a considerable advantage of course, but it is still better than a protostomping squad in public.
And I seriously wonder how some corp could win without their precious imperial scrambler and duvolle. |

True, it should not be possible to invite people with less than X WP into a FW match.

I've been lurking on these forums for a while, but I'm going to pop my for cherry to reply to this.
This is my first character in Dust, and I started the same day as 1.4 dropped. I would class myself as a casual player who occasionally have all day sessions when time permits. Off the top of my head, I have about 2.8million SP and 34K WP iirc. My K/D sucks, but as I play as a Logibro, that's understandable (no, I don't play as a Killer Bee).
Recently I've been moving between Public and Factional for a number of reasons. If I see a known Protostomping Corp in Public, I'll move to Factional Warfare and vice-versa. (Let's face it, we all know who I'm talking about, no need to name names).
So what are my options if there is a limit to joining FW? Join a Public match and get redlined/redline the other team for 10 minutes until on the game ends? Its boring as hell, and does not help new player retention.
Like most new players I joined this game with a handfull of friends, and I'm the only one left playing. Thereason the other players left? Pubstomp after pubstomp after pubstomp. When you've got characters fresh out of BA going up against Protobears in your first match, what's the point of playing? The very first game out of BA, we went up against a Corp who brought out 3 tanks, 2 dropships and 3-4 LAV's. Two of the three players I brought into the game left after one match. The other left after about a week because IT'S NOT FUN to know that your going up against a team you literally cannot harm.
I've seen a lot of theories on the forums on how to fix matchmaking, and they all have pros and con's, but without a higher number of people playing, I don't think any of them will work, unfortunately.
While I can understand the vets wanting to ensure the FW means something in the link between Dust and Eve (and I totally agree with this-thats the whole point of this, isn't it? To get that link between the two different games in the same universe), limiting the already small amount of game modes for new players/casual players isn't really going to help grow the game. With only a small player base, we need to make sure that new players stick with the game.
Yes, this is New Eden, and yes , HTFU, but do you really think that giving new players one game mode only is going to help new player retention?

CCP Nullarbor wrote:Players in the academy will not be able to join FW until they have graduated, or unless they are invited into FW by a squad. This is no barrier at all to griefer alts. It takes one game to get through the academy, plus even that game is like a form of griefing since its vet versus total newbs. It's almost like you're trying to give griefers optimal griefing conditions! What do you think that will do to the server count, let alone AUR sales? Throwaway griefer alts are hardly going to bother with boosters, but they can certainly put everyone else off the game.
Make the barrier 10,000WP or more, so the griefer at least has to play some non-griefing games. |

Are you serious Public Contracts ?! Public Contracts are pretty much protostomping 24/7. FW is the only way to escape it in some way. We need new type of contracts just for noobs. Or "tier" based ones with better/lower rewards.

Giving new players options is the goal. If the Academy took a week instead of 30 minutes, it would be a better option than playing vs vets who have built up SP, gameplay skills, assets, and counter-fits for every situation. I have n00b alts, and it is just comical how fast a starter suit dies to a proto AR.

Your points are valid, but you still have 3 game mode, basically FW is a skirmish and you have much more probability to be stomped by stacked squads in FW than in a public contract. The absence of PVE is another key factor, we should have a PVE coop, to take a break. A entrance barrier is needed, because if till now FW has been a good place to escape and have some relaxed match (sometime), from 1.7 it will not be anymore.
