Just an idea I'm mulling over in my head. Considering that the community at large is QQing about "Slayer-Logies," how about instead of nerfing logies into the dust, we incentivize the use of assaults through specific bonuses to their race's weapons? Now that the AR variants are finally coming out, we can tailor the matching suits to suit the weapons.
Some ideas:
Amarr: Decrease weapon heat build up per level. They can keep this as their bonus as it's great for their weapons and is actually the inspiration for these changes. (I'd suggest adding another bonus into the mix because I'd like for all the other suits' bonuses to stack.)
Gallente: 2-3% plasma weapon damage per level. Gallente weapons should be the high damage weapons of the game with the drawback of shorter range. This bonus affects all Gallente weaponry, including AR, plasma cannon, shotgun, and ion pistol (when it comes out).
I had a little trouble with the Caldari and Minmatar because I don't know what the draw backs of the CR and RR will be or how they'll stack with other faction weaponry, but here's what I'm currently thinking:
Caldari: 10% reduction to rail weaponry charge up time and kick per level. (Perhaps a 2-3% range instead/as well?) From what I hear of the RR, its main drawback will be it's kick, so this bonus will effectively do the same for the RR as the Amarr bonus will does for the SCR/LR.
Minmatar: I don't know. I'm having trouble thinking of a unique attribute that could benefit all Minmatar weaponry. Rate of fire is my best idea so far, because that will help the burst combat rifle, mass driver, flay lock, and SMG the best. I'm also thinking clip size (though they have that for side arms already), reload speed, damage, etc. Idk, but you get the idea.

Please don't. We're mercenaries and our bonuses should open up a broader sense of advantages with weapons instead of narrowing down who can use what. I like the Minmatar assault racial because it doesn't discriminate between the ScR pistol, flaylock or SMG. Other class bonuses should reflect that to a degree for fitting diversity.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

We are mercenaries. Our gear is not. Gear should be made with that races weapons and defenses in mind.
To that end, make bonuses that can apply to all weapons, but are better if that races gear is used. For instance, make caldari assault get hybrid reload speed again. Minmatar get less projectile weapon dispersion. |

Even though it's a bit underpowered, (should affect total clip size and ammo capacity of sidearms) it adds a degree of versatility. You could make a sniper fit that's effective at close and long range, an AV fit that you can run around with for the majority of a match, or a sidearm specialist that takes advantage of the suit's speed. Generalize the bonuses to add more versatility with weapon choice instead of simply saying x suit should be good with x racial weapon. For example, simply rewording the Amarr bonus to affect all weapon heat build up would go a long way if we get more weapons that use a heat mechanic, no matter the race's manufacturer.

Wouldn't it make more sense for bonuses to apply to battle philosophy instead?
Gallente = Close range "brawling" Minmatar = Hit and run flanking Caldari = Long range bombardment Amarr = Mid range skirmishing
Not everyone likes to RP and a lot of people could give a rats ass about EVE lore and who uses what gun. It's better to generalize things so that it's left open ended to player interpretation by giving them little hints of what they can do instead of telling them what they have to. Someone in CCP had the bright idea that heavies should have to be over glorified campers, look at how that worked out.

gallenti - 2% damage on hybrid weapons per suit level ammar - 5% heat reduction on laser based weapons per suit level minmitar - 5% falloff bonus on projectile weapons per suit level caldari - 5% optimal range on hybrid weapons per level

gallenti - 3% repair rate per level ammar - 3% total armour HP per level minmitar - 2% speed per level ( both base and sprint) caldari - 2% shield resistance per level.
yes i do think we should be having the correct matching's of suit's and weapons for the best combinations. that also looks pretty well balanced to be as well. |

I have to agree with Cosgar about the generalisation of suit bonuses. Even the Amarr is only a 'perk' if you use their weapons. The weapons are very serviceable for other suits as well despite the bonus. Though I'm sure there are some Amarr suit users that don't get along with the laser weapons that would love it to change.
I do love the Min bonus to clip size. Many a time I've used the suits speed to flank and had to take out multiple opponents quickly without changing weapons and the extra ammo at the ready without reload has been a godsend.
With regard to when the CR comes out.. I don't know if I'd want a change up to all weapon clip sizes. I used the Burst AR a lot and ammo is not ever a problem - its so efficient with each bullet you don't need more. AND the CR already will do more damage than what I'm used to so again ammo is not a problem.
I'd say the only shortfall to the CR will be CQC (why I can't use Burst AR any more, GEK's destroy me in secs) but a good complimentary sidearm fixes that (or simply use the Assault CR) so again I see nothing wrong with sidearm clip size.

Technically the gallente blaster tech is hybrid as well and so the caldari should get a bonus to either Rail technology or missiles (currently I would go with Rail technology there aren't that much missile wepons for infantry...).

Just my 2 cents It'd say just buff the Minmatar racial to total clip size after applied skills and base ammo capacity to to make running sidearms as primary weapons a bit more forgiving. I love my carthium pistol, but the ammo can be a bit scarce at times.

The blanket suit bonus system sucks, and I'm a logi saying this. Even better, take it a step further and do a basic tiericide. Give all suits their prototype slot layout accross the tiers but 3-5 different bonuses that create a wider spectrum of playstyles and variable CPU/PG and base stats to reflect it.
