If you can't hide from a scanner while wearing an scout suit, you're doing it wrong.
CCP, thank you for hotfixing the knives. But please make sure they're at their full potential in 1.7.

negative49er wrote:what the point of being tactical when you can see everyone all the time
and scouts got it the worst we can't even hide from scanners( sometime the ADV) Look, the issue is that the scanner continues to provide data after the pulse. In trying to make scanners useful CCP - in typical fashion - has made them too useful and will revise them back into a balanced state the same way they always do.
Remove the lingering tracking and have it only generate a snapshot of enemy positions, give bonuses to Scouts when using them, including the ability to scan for the entire team, and possibly add a secondary mechanic relating to the pulse you see on your radar screen.
What I mean by that is that they could potential set up the device so that you have to keep the scanner facing in the direction of the initial pulse in order to get a scan. Any deviation will make the scan area smaller, so no more "scan pirouette-ing".

Scanner needs some tweaking and that's about it. If say much quicker scan times to limit the amount you can spin. That's pretty much it. (I'm talking fractions of seconds). Or keep as is and make a serious increase in CPU/pg reqs.
Sounds like you need to damp yourself more. I don't even full time scout, I'm level 3 dampening and put one adv dampener, two pro kin cats, and one basic reactive plate on an aur pro gal scout. With a complex shield extender. The the most fun stalking lone wolfs while defeating their scans EVERY TIME and then introducing into them to the business end of my shotgun.
Unless you are Lightning or Marauder or a few other anomalies you need to play the scout suit appropriately! Because it is made of paper and needs a buff terribly. But if you plan on playing stealthily, you need to be damping and increase your passive skill to 5. I'm doing the last two levels as soon as I can. I love surprising those suckers with a scanner - it may be the most fun I have in dust. Because half the time, I am one of those suckers with a scanner :p |

1) If you're a Scout, check your math for return before investing in Dampening V. In short, anything beyond Dampening III is a waste of SP. A single, low-slot dampener will beat all but the 15 dB scanner. IMHO, that single low-slot is too much to ask of my Minmatar brothers (like OP). They're all-but-required to run a dampener, which leaves them only one low-slot to work with. We're already gimped, and this adds insult to injury.
2) The Scout anomalies are sick of compensating. The two you've named announced their retirement this week; perhaps sick of waiting for CCP? The latest Dev blog suggests that we'll need to wait longer. AR-514 needed more rifles. |

As for using a slot on stealth modules, its part of my permanent fittings. No point tanking my suit unless its adv or proto tier suits. I run around with 80/149 health and still take out proto's with my pistol. Think it will be a fair fight in the open, you have another thing coming though.

It's not the ADV scanner that's really hurts the game...nor is it pubs.
In PC you know 1 person per squad is running a Duvolle Focused plus other scanners. You CANNOT viably beat these, area is perma scanned for anything but scouts and they are periodically lit up.
Plus scanners have so many messed up mechanics. Twirl and glitch passed scan angle. Scan area and no matter what know if a dampened guy is there because of dumb message. Cool down is so low you can keep an area perma scanned and still fight.

I used to play with lightning pretty often before uprising. Retirement -eh- I guess the good thing about this game is that you can always accrue skill points and come back later. And hopefully they do. Play something else for awhile and come back later. That's what I did, and will probably do again. The last week or so I've been on a dust kick.
But you and those guys are bad names for scouts lol. Putting up beast scores all the time and ccp thinks scouts are fine. But yeah 99% of scouts get eaten for breakfast.
But let me just reiterate. SCOUTS NEED A BUFF! A quarter second of toxin smg fire shouldn't down my advanced scout fitting. We need good scouts in the game. Forces you to keep your SA high at all times when you play against them . |

Scanners definitely need a reworking but the biggest problem I see is that they can be spammed by other classes, which defeats the purpose of a scout because anyone with an equipment slot can do it.

Ok
I understand what your thinking, but removing them isn't the solution, the way scanners work is unbalanced. Not thd premise behind them.
1) Once you scan, you can switch back to your light weapon This is problematic because there is no negative to doing a quick 360 and the getting intel for the next 30 seconds
2)Scans 'Tag' players physically showing there tag to 100% accuracy, 100% of the time This is problematic because having THIS much intel without a drawback is a little unfair
3) Tagging lasts for ridiculous amounts of time 4) Scans have incredibly long ranges
Ideally I think scanners should work more like the movement detectors in ALIENS. The scanner sends a pulse intermittently that 'tags' the player, but this tag is only updated with each pulse Furthermore as soon as you change to a weapon or other equipment the tag data is lost
So you might choose a short range scanner with moderate prescision, that comes with a short interval to give full real time info to a squad.
Or you might go for ultra long range moderate prescion but with an incredibily long interaval, which would serve more as global battlefield intel, such as where you predict groups are moving to.
The pen is mightier than the sword
The gun is mightier than both
