Okay, so I'm just a little man on the block. Only been playing Dust about a month now. However, I still see no balance to this game whatsoever.
I find it ridiculous as to how quick you die. There needs to be something seriously done about that. I've played Eve for an eternity, and in Dust you are toast from one player in a half second. It doesn't matter how much shield or armor you have. Frankly, I find the extenders do absolutely nothing. No help at all.
Snipers are a joke. Most with their super paid for by real cash rifle, taking out from a far with one shot.
The first fix I recommend is doubling all hit points across the board, and halving all damage by all weapons. You can't even start a fight before you're dead. If you try to play the hide and cover game, you die from another angle, or from some Nova Knife punk running around. To balance this, you could even double the cost of all items, but at least give players a chance to counter strike in battle before dead.
Spawns are also a huge problem. Enemies will camp them, and shred all that clone through before they can even get their bearings. My recommended fix, give players who spawn a 3-4 second invulnerability or ghost time to at least take a look around. Call it, "new clone sync time" where you can neither be hurt nor fire any weapons.
Also, is it just me or do other players have better aim? I used the PS3 dual shock controller, but I guess you can hook up a keyboard and mouse??? If that's the case, many are at an unfair advantage with precise mouse control and shooting.
I'm not all hate, I do like the premise of the game... most of it is just poorly done.

You have some good observations but I recommend you take more time before posting.
TTK is really quick this build, this is known.
Snipers, love them or hate them, they do their thing. I believe you are referring to the Thales rifle here, which is officer salvage, can't be bought at all.
Double hit points, halving damage. Long long ago heavies ruled the field with an iron fist.
Spawns, you do have an invulnerability cloak for a few seconds, moving breaks it. You can look about though without breaking it.
"Also, is it just me or do other players have better aim?" Yes, they do. There are players in here who are spooky accurate, with either DS3, or kb/m, personal preference. I don't care what your opinion on kb/m vs controller is btw, just use whichever you prefer. I use controller and don't consider myself at a disadvantage at all.

Mouse controls are very poor in this game FYI. They cant be compared to a PC game at all. Many players are very good with controller, and there is also aim assist in this game for controller.
Regarding over all damage vs hitpoints, your mods need to matter more.

this is the classic takeaway of every new player to dust, and why the player base will never grow in its current form. TTK is awful. NERF ALL WEAPONS ACROSS THE BOARD. PLEASE.
snipers are assholes. and there is a proto rifle that can be bought with aurum. ishukone equivalent. but the thale's is the most OP, annoying piece of **** item in the game. mainly because snipers don't die regularly, so they have little reprisal for using one in a pub match. and yes it one shots.
heavies never ruled the field dent. they just thought they did. i yearn for those days back. they felt more powerful than they were, and were prone to doing stupid things. smart players could destroy them easily. |

You have a valid point on everything here... except your recommendations. They are too sweeping meaning that it's a bad idea to apply one or two things across everything without consideration.
For example, there are heavy suits out there that can already tank up to at least 2,000 HP when combining their shields and armor HP. If you double that, the heavy becomes an HAV with legs with 4,000 HP. This will be just as bad if you also try halving the damage of all weapons. My Nova Knives can deal around 1,000 damage. If you half that to 500 damage, it will take me at least 8 (that's eight) fully-charged knife strikes with damage mods applied. And considering how easy it is for even a heavy to avoid charged strikes by simply back pedaling, 8 charged strikes is wwaaaaaaaayyyyyy too much to accomplish in a suit so fragile (scouts) that even doubling the HP on the scout won't save it at all.
Again, you have valid points on the TTK issue, but your suggestions are just too generalized and too sweeping.
CCP, thank you for hotfixing the knives. But please make sure they're at their full potential in 1.7.

If a nova knifer gets that close to you, you deserved to die. This is a gun game after all. Do you have any idea how incredibly difficult it is for a dedicated scout to get that close to you without being spotted? On top of that, we're wearing suits so weak that a gust of wind can kill us. If you so much as give me a bad stare, I'm dead. All it takes for you to kill me is just check your back.

TTK an spawns aside. Your mistaken on the sniper rifles "completely". You don't need an aur rifle to one shot and as mentioned before only the officer weapon trulely eats clones alive but that is a very rare savage drop. When using a proto sniper rifle against proto suits the whole sniper rifle op thing doesn't hold much water, quite the opposite actually.

My apologies, as I seem to have succumb to new player frustrations. TTK for me has been the game breaker when it comes to the battles. I just don't see it as being something I, or many new players, can overcome. I realize heavies can have big tanks, but at least they are easier to spot and shoot. If my recommendations on doubling HPs and halfing damage would ever become a reality, I think it's just simple math when you look at it. It would give players longer lives and make everyone harder to kill... across the board. You are really not taking away anything, but rather prolonging the game play.
My feeling is this game is supposed to focus on sqauds and cooperation play styles. No one person should have too much power... no one sniper... no one nano knife scout... no one heavy. If you can't one shot kill, or one stab kill, then you better have a wingman by your side. I'd rather see a push toward that, than overpowered individuals.
I'm not going anywhere... yet... but right now I think it's better to just passive skill up without playing rather than getting my ass whomped daily.

My tanker alt with almost no infantry skills often finds herself on foot, and she doesn't perform much worse there than my infantry-focused main character. Don't think that lack of SP and PRO gear is holding you back from reaching your potential - it's not.
While I agree with your observations about longer TTK, imho the option is already available to you. I'm not sure what you use now, but I recommend the Militia Gallente Medium Frame with two or three Militia Armor Plates. That's 585 HP before any buffs from your skills. I rock Militia or Basic Armor Plates on nearly every suit I run on all of my characters.
The other thing that I'd recommend you do (if you don't already) is always carry an active scanner. Run that thing CONSTANTLY. Some say it's a tool that helps vets stomp noobs - and it's true, as long as the noobs don't use it. However, if you add it to your outfit, IMHO it's a great equalizer. Whoever can get the jump on the enemy is FAR more important than how much HP your dropsuit has. And even if that elite kill squad scans you back, you can fall back and try to avoid engagement. It doesn't matter how much DPS their gun has if they don't get to fire at you.
Coming back to a big pile of passive SP is enjoyable, but if you really want to improve, IMHO you should keep on playing and try to work out some winning strategies and perfect your gunplay.

I find this statement to be so true . Mods need to function better and I believe ( don't get mad at me for bringing this up please ) that , that's what should have changed in 1.7 and not this extensive overhaul . The mods for the vehicles ( and suits ) underperform extensively and that's easily seen and could be the ONE problem that is NOT spoken about at all . Most people complain about the programming and computer usage or wanting a nerf or a buff to a particular item but the fact is they underperform even with maxing out their individual core skill . Some actually perform better ONLY when that skill is maxed .
Good that you have mentioned this and maybe it can get the attention that is due . I wonder if the community has even noticed this and I was going to make a post sometime ago about this but I didn't want to have to defend myself ( I don't meditate like I used to so my temper is really bad ) over the statements .

It has little to do with hitpoints or damage and everything to do with accuracy and lack of kick. Most automatic weapons have no kick until something like 30 shots in and absolutely no dispersion when aiming down sights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTEoWijPFvM
Now about the mouse and keyboard, it isn't very well supported nor does it give people any real advantage over DS3 users in this game... the only place where it *really* comes in is inside tanks and that's only a slight movement advantage. |

This is SO TRUE !!!! I had my PS3 just returned to me 11 / 30 / 2013 and it was gone for about two weeks and I am in a situation far worst than I was in before it left me . I am rusty like a tin man and that's just from two weeks absent . I don't and cant understand how someone can take time off ( I know that some do but it's better to be a VET in doing so ) and come back ???? I would think that they have to loose some of their effectiveness but everyone isn't the same and if your new then you NEED in game experience . YOU WILL GET BETTER .
