I'm re-reading the eve novel "the burning life" and seeing frequent reference to things called 'multispectral grenades' or as they should be known - the flash bangs of new eden. In general the principle behind these grenades is that there's a small emp discharge to disrupt sensors (effective on drones, sansha's or the heavily implanted), a brief but bright and hot thermal to superheat surroundings (potentially scorching mercs, temporarily blinding them and disrupting heat sensitive equipment), a loud explosion (disrupting sound based equipment and damaging merc hearing) and a powerful concussive blast (knocking people around in a disorienting manner and trashing more sensitive gear).
In lore these can apparently be tuned from 'nonlethal' to 'absolutely horrifying' as well as features turned on or off so as to allow these grenades to function in a variety of roles ranging from riot suppression to armed conflicts: the concussive blast, noise and disorienting light are apparently enoug to induce vomiting on lower settings, and on higher settings can cause very permanent damage - bad enough that the multispectral grenades use borders on illegal in some places.
Now that lore is covered... I believe the flash bang properties of these grenades would make them a wonderful asset to scout suits (allowing them to get in close for shotgunning and nova knifing), they'd also allow for a bit of an easier time breaching packed corridors on a city map and while they caused no damage themselves could be grat for setting up strong sudden pushes. |

The multispectrals are actually grenades which you can change the effect on. All of the things you mentioned don't happen at once, you choose the effect before you throw it. It has 4 settings: EM (works like a flash grenade), Thermal (incendiary grenade), Kinetic (concussive grenade) or Explosive (kaboom!) .
EM is the least lethal, Kinetic CAN be lethal if you're too close, Thermal is lethal if youre standing too close, and explosive is lethal in a wide radius.
Also: that book was pretty awful, and most of it was deemed non-canon. |

I don't use damage mods or the duvolle. Adv. Extenders an adv. Burst rifle for me, but I see what your driving at.

Simple enough actually - the better you are at landing them on target the more 'stun' they do - sleek variants do the least whole packed variants do the most but are harder to hit. And regardless of the grenades being used now gallogi's with stacked damage mods were (and will probably continue to be) an issue already these would allow a player to turn the tables on them without immediately being torn to pieces.
As for the grenades who are you to act like you're the sole determiner of how they should work - nothing suggests they can't have their multiple functions all work at once and fluff had been changed for far bigger things without issue.
The novel was no literary masterpiece but gave a decent look at all the empires and prettymuch every pirate faction but the Serpentis. |

I was hooked into Dust alone at first, but later began to appreciate the immensely entertaining (and easy to access) EVE lore based around EVE Online. I can safely assume the lore-connection has proved a good selling mechanism that has gotten some Dust players to become new Eve Online players, so the "lore" becomes a plus for the game devs.
Normally I am AGAINST adding more Star-Trek like items to an FPS (cloaks, EMPs, mamba-gas, temporal-shift-nades, teleport-modules...) because they can turn a human-v-human battlefront into a monkey circus where you spend 5 minutes conquering a map, and then 45 minutes putting out mischief fires that individual scouts and guerillas are able to cause using their odd gadgets. The gameplay often (not always) breaks down from "fun tactical" into "annoying bug-chasing with a can of Raid". Some of you must know what I mean: You plant your flag of victory, then suddenly a player "EMPs" the engineering shack 30 MILES AWAY... by the time you run over there to shoot him, he jumps into "a teleport thingy" and---what the--on and ON--you want to pay him real money if he'd just stop doin' that!"
BUT, Mina... I have to relent and admit your weapon is inviting, and at least is more SCI-FI "mature" than the gadgets I mentioned above. No, I still wouldn't personally LIKE to have that weapon used in our PvP matches (especially not in these goldfish bowl sized maps we're currently using---Yikes!). But if it were one of a handful of weapons provided on LIMITED basis, like maybe provided to you exclusively in PvE Contracts (Mina, you already hinted at this in your description of the novel you're reading), and you only get a chance to work with them when you enter PvE matches... it would kinda curb the crazy rugrat behavior I'm afraid of with these gadgets, and HECK, can even become a good selling mechanism to give PvE players as special and unique an experience as possible.
In PvE, the Low-setting versus High-setting of the charge you described would add a NICE (not-naughty) tactical consideration to the person about to throw it---low setting to SAVE a fellow merc who needs to be rescued from attacking drones (with only nausea and vomiting inflicted on him) --- High setting when there are no buddies in the "discharge radius" and the drones are the only victims. Using a low-setting variation may be ESSENTIAL, in a PvE contract that involved "neutralizing" a district of researchers who have been "infected" by Sansha's mischief (you get less ISK if you KILL the poor citizen---the client wants his workers recovered ALIVE).
So I endorse your idea Mina--(but please, ONLY in PvE areas, so we don't run around using it on each other--I have to take too much Tylenol when those players use those gadgets in my other games). |

Eve online already has cloaking devices, teleportation devices etc etc Celesta, multi-spectral grenades are relatively simple actually - overwhelm the senses (or sensors). They'd work fine in pvp or in pve. |

Maybe to improve the defensive qualities of sentinels and improve the offensive qualities of assaults they could be somewhat resistant to multispectral grenades (have this information listed on the dropsuits as a 'sensor recalibration time'). This would allow some classes to more or less shrug off these grenades while others are a bit more impaired by them. |
