Who Has Still Got Hope for DUST 514?

The PS4 is out and the frenzy for next-gen is beginning. There are those who still have hope in CCP to make this game as revolutionary as they have oh so often claimed. I for one have been holding out since February, and truth be told the game hasn't made any leaps and bounds since then worth noting. In fact, some may say it's taken a few steps backwards (aim assist, AR dominance, lag lag and more lag). I'm not really complaining about CCP's timetable or priorities, but more so in their sheer lack of keeping up with their own promises. The DUST presentations got people so psyched for all the new promised content, but it seems like none of it is really coming anytime soon. A vehicle patch that was promised two months ago took that long to iron out. How long do you think all the other stuff (racial dropsuits, FW changes, PC 2.0, new game modes) will take? Does CCP expect people to hold out several years for a "finished" product like EVE? Are you willing to hold out? Let me play you the song of my people!

I think a lot of people don't quite realize how far the game has come in the amount of time its been available. Sure CCP sometimes sticks their foot in their mouth because they announce something to be released sooner than its ready, but would you prefer it be released if they damn well know its not ready yet? I'm an incredibly patient gamer, and while sometimes I've had enough of Dust and walk away, it always seems to pull me back eventually. That's just the kind of game Dust is.

This is the only game that everything i do feels relevent. Other games get boring after a while. That's a shallow look at my response - over-all the community lives and breathes depending on there freedom, if they can't use certain game mechanics it limits them and there fun. But basically my answer to your OP was yes. :)

I've been playing about 6 months and I don't have the baggage (good or bad) from the Beta crowd and I had only a passing knowledge of EVE. What I've seen from where I on ramped into the game is an incredibly deep game universe and I've begun reading the canon and community fiction, CCP Devs that interact with the community more than I've seen in any other game, evolving game play and improvements that I've never seen in a console game or many PC games. There have been fits and starts since I've been on board but my experience has been very positive. I researched corps and evaluated them before putting in my application to the one I thought best fit my game style and I did this fairly early on. The first month or so without a corp or any contacts to speak of were very rough. Things turn around dramatically when you begin to engage in the social aspect, EvE community, and meta-gaming facets and I'm pretty excited by those elements I've not seen in any other FPS. I do think 1.7 is a big test for CCP but I'm fairly optimistic and practical about my expectations. CCP has gained enough of my interest and trust that I'm sticking around for the foreseeable future and will be getting around to getting an EVE account pretty soon. Again, I don't doubt or brush off any of the frustrations experienced form the initial closed release of the game till now from the plank owners in the community. My point is that, at least from my perspective, things are continuing to trend upward.

However, CCP is just getting into this console thing and trying to connect it to EVE is no small feat. I remember when people were talking how MAG was no way in size and shape gonna man large 200+ soldiers in a single battle but history has been written and someday DUST will carve its legacy as well. I am waiting on PS4 when the fiascoes start popping up for any new 1G console but I think i will shift to PS4 when Destiny and The Division show up on radar and Sony will sell a bigger HDD bundle with it. Although i heard the PS4 controller was built with FPS in mind and I heard it works on the PS3 so I might get a PS4 controller in the near future.

Well, as I said in a discussion about this on IRC yesterday, I don't really think that nextgen will mean a huge playercount drop for Dust. Of course some players will stop playing, but the majority of the current playerbase for Dust is casual players that won't be getting a nextgen right away. As for what players do at the presence of other things there is no predictability really to determine what they would do. I mean GTA V was supposed to steal the 'entire player base' and yet despite GTA V we managed to crawl up a population spike much higher than some previous months. PS4 knocked us down by a good 1k overall though but having this upward spike on friday is a bit odd and generally we're waning down during the weekend. Overall I don't expect the numbers to stabilize until January as November and December are bad months to be competing generally.
