Late spawn ins are terrible in a game that has a competitive aspect such as PC involved. I think CCP should add a feature where everyone has their initial spawn in but are frozen where they spawn for 20 seconds to allow for everyone else to make their spawn. This will allow for a more equal/balanced playing field that would prevent teams from getting cheated out of losses simply because their team spawned in 5 seconds later then the opposing team.
There isn't any negative to this that I can think of, and really it just makes it so that people like me don't get screwed over because of a late spawn. I mean, lets face it, this game is laggy as hell sometimes and I think a feature like this would go a long way in balancing the game out. But who knows, maybe im just crazy right?

I hate when I have to sit there for 20 or so seconds to spawn when every second is critical for my scout to rush the center objectives.

Your wrong, this is not like eve because EVE actually has time dilation when things get laggy. Its not fair that someone with a faster internet speed should be able to load into a match faster and be at the objectives before I even spawn in. That's not about "whos better" in the game, its just pure luck on his part, and theres absolutely nothing I can do in-game to counter that. Im not trying to make this game less like a sandbox dude, I just want it so that people have to abide by the same rules as everyone else who play in the sandbox.

No not really. The problem is when you initially load the map onto your screen. Normally your frame rate drops considerably and you have to wait additional time to spawn in. Meanwhile some people just got lucky and it didn't lag, or they rigged their PS3's with SSD cards and they just load everything super quick. Either way I think it would just make things more balanced and competitive if everyone started moving at the same time as opposed to everyone starting to move as they spawn in.

Fair enough.
Rather than having mercs waiting on the ground why not just have all spawning blocked for a suitable duration? |

I think that initial spawn in is what causes the lag though. Think about it, all 32 players rendering at the same time? I mean its really not that hard to have people stand still after they spawn. If they spawn MCC then they spawn MCC and sit inside it for 20 seconds. If they spawn ground then they sit on the ground for 20 seconds with a nice red count-down timer similar to the redline. Of course, you have the option to wait and not spawn, but that's really up to you.

CoD does it too. *Shudder* That was weird. I said something good about CoD. I'm going to go home and rethink my life.
MAG had something similar (just look at the 0:30-0:45): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHyHt5FSAoM
At 0:32 you see the spawn screen and you could choose between two spawn points. It's sort of like Rush in BF3 and CoD except you choose where to spawn instead of jumping in place in a set spawn point. MAG also had spawns in 20 second waves for the rest of the game, note that I don't want that in Dust. I'm only talking about the first spawn wave.
The point is, since Dust has more than one initial spawn locations unlike BF3 and CoD, I rather have the MAG initial spawn system because it allows more flexibility.

No, the warbarge didn't make a difference. The warbarge has nothing to do with spawn times because regardless of the warbarge theres still going to be lag when your switching to the in-game map. I mean yes...... the warbarge did make a bit of a difference, but it still doesn't stop initial frame rate drops. I just want a 20 second count down from when the first person loads into the battle, until the first person can spawn.

The lag sometimes is deadly, I've had it before be the start of a match and my entire team could not spawn for 45 seconds, naturally this was on a domination map, the enemy team took the entire battlefield then had us trapped behind the redline and was spawn camping us, cause they knew exactly where we would show up. I'm not saying the enemy did anything wrong, they are in their right to smash us, but it should be a smash when we've had enough of a chance to actually be able to counter them if possible. So I agree with the idea, maybe it would be the time to spawn in vehicles or setup some before the match into squads (I always try to be in a squad before match but enough people don't) since the warbarge scene usually no longer appears for pub matches. |

Exactly!!!...... its one thing for an enemy team to just beat the crap out of yours and redline you like that, but its a completely different thing when your cheated out of having a chance to fight because of faulty gameplay mechanics (in this case the uneven spawn times everyone seems to get). I mean..... sometimes I play dom, and the enemy cap the base right as my character materializes on the ground. And that's just nonsense!

I like that idea. It makes waiting a bit more cool! But then again, having only one spawn location to choose from is pretty crappy. Especially if you consider the frequency of redlining in pub matches!

Perhaps once the doors open, two remote spawn beacons are launched to land in your redline. These could either be like the invisible spawn or it could be a CRU & Supply Depot combo.
Currently where they would land could be random but once the Commander role is introduced, the battle commander would select the positions for the remote spawn beacons/CRU/Supply Depot... again, only in your team's redline.

Perhaps introduce a smaller ship, some sorta transport that can be used as the alternate spawn location. It can act like the MCCin the sense that the doors don't open till the start of the match. But other than that since it is not an MCC it's destruction is irrelevant. |

Hey man, I don't agree with just having MCC, but honestly...... it really wouldn't make a difference either way. Have it so the first spawn is only in the MCC. Then once the MCC opens up have the ground spawn open up as well. The ground spawns have only really ever been there for redline prevention. But if both teams are only starting in the MCC then it really doesn't make a difference.
Or we could just do it the way I want it and have everyone stand still upon spawning for the first 20 seconds, thus making it so that everyone starts running at the same time. I really don't care how CCP does it, so long as they do it.

Having more than one spawn point does more than prevent red-lining, it allows a larger amount of tactics too.

The timer is a great idea. I suffer from this issue a lot, for example on Ashland, I sometimes spawn as my team is already more than halfway to B (E side spawn).
For the multiple spawn points, create a force field around the area on all the other spawn points beside the MCC that only lifts after the timer. |

actually... i like the thought of spawning as a squad. its better than spawning in one at a time in front of a group of enemies.
if you known youre getting camped, you could spawn as normal except before you actually spawn you'd have to hit the button again. this lets you wait for the rest of you squad or team.
put a limit to how many can spawn at a time and color code the uplinks so we can see where our squad mates are spawning in and how many are spawning at that location.

Honestly, i'd rather have a more fluid spawn systems that doesnt make some players have to wait 10 seconds after the 10 second count down. It's not very "lore friendly" to add a freeze period to PC fights. First spawns are also a viable layer of tactic.

The reason I said I didn't want the spawn timer in every spawn like it was in MAG was simply because it would mess with functionality of the uplinks. Only the STD uplinks would be useful. It would have to be changed a little.
I don't know if you played MAG, but spawn timers didn't prevent red-lining; it still happened then. At the same time, MAG didn't have heavies with possibly triple your health.

Ummmmm the title of this thread is "like BF3" not MAG. I just want an INITIAL 20 second spawn timer. After that, every other spawn timer would go on like it always has. And by "20 second spawn timer" I mean, the moment the first merc materializes on the ground, he has to stay stationary for 20 seconds. If another merc materializes 10 seconds into the 20 second wait, then he/she only has to wait 10 more seconds.
This way everyone starts moving at the same time and not whenever they load into the game. Simple as that.

Honestly, i'd rather have a more fluid spawn systems that doesnt make some players have to wait 10 seconds after the 10 second count down. It's not very "lore friendly" to add a freeze period to PC fights. First spawns are also a viable layer of tactic.
"viable layer of tactics"???? Nobody on either side can control weather or not it happens!
Like I said in the post. For a game with a competitive aspect like PC to function properly, it CAN NOT have "spawn lag". It would be one thing if the opposing teams could do something to each other to influence this, but that is simply not the case. Spawn lag is caused by a variety of technical issues that nobody can control such as server node location relative to a players house, the age of the console being used, and any plethora of glitches/framerate drops a player may encounter while initially spawning in.
Yes its not very "lore friendly" to add a freeze period to PC fights. But you know what else isn't very "lore friendly"? The freeze period 50% of people get already anyway when they first load into a fight. If most people have to deal with it, and there isn't some sort of optimization that can be done to fix it, then the only other alternative is to have everyone wait 10-20 seconds before there able to move.
Frankly im shocked a member of the CPM would rather choose lore then have a feature added that would only serve to benefit the competitive nature of the game.

DeathwindRising and I were having an internal debate and I know exactly what you want to implement.
While it's true that what we have now isn't good because of the spawn lag, the reason I don't like your idea (while it is better than what we have now) is simply because it only allows one place I can spawn at the start of the game. I prefer options and that's where the initial MAG spawn system comes in.
Essentially I've added a third option to the table. What we have now vs. BF3 vs. MAG

Look, like ive said twice now. IDC if the MCC is the only spawn or not. Whichever is easier for CCP to implement is the option I would choose. There can be a million spawn options for all I care. So long as nobody can move for the first 20 seconds the problem I care about is fixed. Spawn locations are such a trivial thing to care about when this discussion is about the process of spawning in. Not the locations in which you spawn on to.

the warbarge was a great place to size up the other team and decide whether or not to engage a potential stomp.

We appear is be having a failure communicate.
We both want to solve the issue of the unfair rendering issue. You offered the BF3 spawning system, which would probably work. The only problem I have with it is that it prevents the user from changing his mind before the game even starts, that's it. I'm simply trying to improve the idea you presented.

No? You can change your mind before you choose to spawn, and you'll still have the standard 10 second timer. The 20 second count down doesn't start till the first person materializes. Before you spawn on the ground you can pick and choose wherever you want to spawn. If anything, this 20 second "freeze" period actually allows you to change your mind after the fact. Since nobody can move for 20 seconds, if you have enough time you can actually suicide and re-choose if you somehow messed up before hand anyway.

Alright, may as well edit that post into the OP so you get less people like me.
Don't really like the idea of committing suicide though. Seems like a waste of money and clones.

Then don't commit to the wrong spawn for the standard 10 seconds it takes to spawn in. I mean, if it takes more then 10 seconds for you to realize the mistake, then really the only option in-game currently is suicide anyway. With the 20 second timer, at least you don't lose time. (though you'll still lose the isk as you say) and yeah, ill make sure to edit my post soon, ive just been a bit lazy recently.

I do agree with it on a mechanics standpoint - if internet speed differences are dangerous enough on slower-paced EVE to warrant a change(Time Dialation), then the necessity is far greater for an FPS like DUST.
As for lore - If TACNET can suicide your clone for desertion, then it would also be able to freeze your dropsuit's hydraulics/servos while it runs a diagnostic to ensure everyone's TACNET transmitters are synched up properly with their allies. Of course, that's exactly the reason for including the mechanic in the game - you need all your allies synched when you start the match, lest you recieve the "spawn lag" that is experienced now. |
