Great, another "scans are OP" QQ thread from people who don't want to use dampeners.
Since a lot of people here don't know what they're talking about, here are the facts:
1) Spin scans are not 100% reliable. If you spin too fast, scanned enemies will blip then fade from your minimap. A constant hold over a scanned area is needed for enemies to pulse reliably after scanning.
2) If a scout or dampened suit dodges your scans, you do NOT receive the "Some Margin of Error" message. It still shows "No Margin of Error". This has been in effect since 1.5.
3) Scouts need only one militia/basic dampener and Level 2 in dampening to avoid 28dB proto scans. Advanced scanners are avoided innately when the racial scout skill is at proto. Medium frames need one complex dampener to avoid advanced scans, and two complex to avoid proto scans (obviously with Level 5 in dampening). Only the Gallente Scout with 4x complex dampeners can avoid the 15dB proto scanner, but because of its drawbacks as a scanner this one is rarely used.
4) Sometimes, if you scan the same area too quickly, the scanned pulse time from the second scan does not refresh the pulsing from the first scan. This happens often with quantum scanners. Therefore if you spam it too much, you handicap yourself because you're left without any fresh scan data as you wait for the cooldown to end.
5) If the cooldowns for quantum scanners were changed, then logis would either run dual scanners or simply have multiple scanners in a squad (which is quite prevalent already). So while it would be an overall equipment nerf (slot blocking to prevent the use of other equipment), it would not significantly change how scans are used in game.
I have scanning to proto and dampening to proto, and run dampeners on my Cal Logi suit exclusively (usually two, sometimes just one). I use one basic plate regardless of how many dampeners I have. Yet I can still pull off games where I get 30/0 or 35/1, simply because you do not need to brick tank to be an effective fighter. Stealth and surprise end many engagements before they even begin. |

That's what it used to mean. But it doesn't do that anymore. If someone is running dampeners, it still gives the person scanning the "No Margin of Error" message. I have tested this in Oceania and seen it happen several times in game (i.e. I see a scout duck behind cover, scan him with the A-45 Quantum, and still get the "No Margin of Error" message).
When was the last time you scanned and saw the "Some Margin of Error" message? I run scanners all the time and haven't seen it since 1.5 hit. |
