A medium suit has a base scan profile of 50dB. There are only 3 skill/module combinations that matter to medium suit users using only 1 (or no) low power slot:
- Maxed out dampening skill, no dampening modules (10% profile dampening)
50 * .9 = 45 dB, avoids STD scanners, but not llight/scout passive scans
- No dampening skills, mlitia profile dampener (15% profile dampening)
50 * 0.85 = 42.5 dB, avoids STD scanners, as well as light/scout suit passive scans, unless they have at least 6% scan precision enhancement
- Maxed out dampening skill, 1x Complex dampening module (32.5% profile dampening)
50 * .9 * .75 = 33.75 dB, avoids ADV scanners, as well as all light/scout passive scans (without using precision enhancement modules)
The key thing to note is that for medium suits, ranks in profile dampening aren't all that useful until you've got all 5 of them. No combination of profile dampening skill below 5 and a single dampener (including the AUR complex dampener) will put you below the threshold for ADV scanners. All ranks of profile dampening below 5 with no dampening modules are still detectable by STD scanners.
I'm not sure what the math for stacking multiple dampeners is, but at that point, I don't think the profile dampening is worth the extra slot.

Scanners are pretty F'ed up right now. Just spin and you completely reveal everyone. Someone escapes the scanner and you get margin of error, so it's easy to know exactly what direction they are coming from.
This is incorrect. Level 5 dampening will put your medium suit at 45 dB precision. An enhanced dampener will drop your profile to 36dB, which is exactly the precision of an ADV scanner, which means the scanner will see you:
50 * .9 * .8 = 36 dB
You need Profile Dampening V and a complex dampener module to defeat ADV scanners.
