For me the problem isn't so much that people -can- run protosuits in matches (which I have no problem with) but that I feel the original intent of Prototype tier is being lost from what was originally told to us.
I remember (I've followed the news about this game long before I got a PS3 to play it) when the Devs more or less stated that Proto gear was meant to be that extra edge for very important matches, something that is very expensive, and an almost guaranteed profit-loss even with a few losses. It was supposed to be only for critical moments, and PC, where very important things were on the line.
Instead we see Proto-level gear being used in all cases because the price is not inhibitive compared to player wealth. In many cases, this reminds me of CCP's original vision for titans, which they originally intended to be so rare that there would only be a handful in the game at a time. In both cases however they underestimated player determination and wealth, and in both cases both were able to become prolific.
In this light, my problem is not with those who use it constantly (because if you can afford / use an advantage, you should) but with the general concept that this stuff should have been the super-expensive suits only broken out when the stakes where extremely high.
Perhaps this will change once the player market, and player manufacturing comes out, but at current it seems it will be Officer gear that fulfills that "Clutch moment" power up instead of Proto. |

Personally, I'd be a bit happier if DUST and EVE UNIs trained their students in Combined Arms relations and communication, so that players of both sides get valuable experience in communicating with the each game, as well as 101 courses of the other Game so EVE Uni grads have a moderate understanding of Dust, and vice versa.
That and some OB coordination training would go along way to helping both games grow closer. After all, if the "new generation" of both Dust and EVE players are comfortable, used to, and familiar with the other game it will only further push along the concept of the games being further unified. |
