Please explain where I went wrong in the above scenarios. Please explain why the current state of weapon/suit balance is "OK" with you. Please explain why your ARs should not be adjusted or nerfed. Please explain why your ARs owning Shotguns (and HMGs) in CQC is acceptable and balanced. Please explain why you should survive sneak attacks from behind. Especially those involving Shotguns.
I'm all ears.
EDIT: This thread is not a rant about pubstomping, latency, or Nyain San. This thread is a request for someone, anyone, to step up and explain why EZ Mode should be so easy.
EZ Mode: Defined as Proto Medium Frame + Automatic AR or ScR
If marauder tried to kill me closing the gap while putting a clip of advanced smg in my head I'd win every 1v1. He just shotties me in the back after I'm scanned and I pick a direction.
learning to cook nades while sprinting and then shooting once released is a deceptively difficult art.
I've put thousands of hours into just that tactic, and I still have more to learn...and I don't have to be as close as a shotty in order to execute it.

CCP has 2 sides of the brain. Problem is there's nothing right in the left brain and nothing left in the right brain.

I checked the leaderboard at the beginning of every match, if the Nyain Exploiters were on the other team, I simply left... because the same thing was happening to me. I would flanked them (because they rely so much on the scanner) and I would get within 10m of them. I would empty my SCR into them... but they would turn on me (and since when does the term "turned on" apply to DUST? This isn't twitch/Call of Duty) I was like, alright. There are Gallente Tanked, I was using an SCR. I'll switch to my GEK, maxed out AR skill tree branch, and 2 complex damage mods... I would OUTPLAY them by flanking and literally walking up right behind them. Unload into them. Watch EVERY SINGLE BULLET from my AR go into them, causing more damage than I can mathematically do off the top of my head... and I'd get turned on again...
There is only ONE way to gear up in DUST. -Medium Frame -AR -Armor Tank to match the HP of a Heavy -Damage Mod stack
Nyain exploits lag, and every cheezy thing this game has to offer. They can seriously get f*cked. Its not their fault that they exploit the game because they are scrubs, its CCP's fault for making the game that way. Since the shotgun is not powerful enough to break into a Prototype Gallente Tank, you were f*cked anyway...

ARs, Nades, Forge Guns, and MDs are the name of the game. No room for anything else. ar beats md as well |

Protocake JR wrote:Shotty GoBang wrote:By some strange magic ... The very next match I played (after dinner) was vs a different Nyain San pubstomp squad.
Snuck up on Milkman this time, undetected. Blasted him twice in the side with K5 Shotgun. Gunned down by his AR before I could land third shot. Just like his brothers, he was running Slayer Logi + Duvolle AR.
The very following match was vs the very same pubstompers in original post! 3 pubstomps vs Nyain San, back-to-back! Teach me for trying to play a quick Ambush :-(
Needless to say, I backed out of the 3rd match. ^ See guys, I can learn. I is can be smarts like you, RegNums. Yeah dude, i'm not too convinced. It almost sounds like you engaged outside of your optimal range. And for someone to be able to turn around and gun you down before you can get off a third shot leads me to believe you either: hesitated, lost your bead on the target, and/or failed to strafe in order to avoid damage. Also, I know what you are not trying to highlight latency/netcode issues when playing against players from a different region, however you cannot discount these issues just because you want ARs to be nerfed. Poor netcoding and foreign players probably had a bigger contribution to your demise than the fact he was using an AR. You talking about one of the best scout shotgunners in dust... And ive experienced the same problems. Getting the jump on a guy does not mean the kill is in the bag. Scouts are no longer suited for cqc untill ar is nerfed or scout hit boxes are narrowed. Ive resorted to using a tac ar and flanking around edges picking off guys from a distance lol. Kd has gone up .02 in a day doing this lol. The tac is a lot of fun.
This game needs respecs every month. uMad

I use laser rifle with my scout alt so I can keep in its stupidly small optimum and I do much better than with the SG I manage to sneak up on them but if they survive the first shot 9/10 they do a perfect 180 turn and land all 4 bullets needed to kill a scout before my second shot fires.
TEST signature please help me think of a better one.

Shotty GoBang wrote:EVE Time: 2013.11.07 01:20 Playmode: Ambush
Decided to queue for a quick solo Ambush before dinner. Entered match underway vs Nyain San pubstompers.
Knew I was in for an arse-kickin' so I ran my tankiest Scout fit:
Scout GK.0 (~112k isk)
HS: Cmp Shield LS: Enh Plates (x3), Cmp ArmRep PW: K5 Specialist SW: M209 Assault SMG GR: Core Locus EQ: A-19 Scanner
Shields - 153 Armor - 512 Movement - 5.06 m/s Sprint - 7.44 m/s
Figured I'd play extra safe and sneaky.
Flanked hostiles. Snuck up behind Call-Me Lipton. Just the two us. Emptied entire clip of M209 into back of his head while moving into Shotgun range. I'm dead before firing second shotgun blast. His Duvolle AR and ridiculous HP were too much for me to assassinate.
Flanked hostiles again. Snuck up behind Kaizuka Sniper. Just the two of us. Changed tactics. Cooked Core Locus. Hit him nice and perfect. Moved in with Shotgun as he spun around trying to find me. He spots me as I close in and fire first blast ... he jumps backwards. I'm dead to Duvolle AR fire before he hits the ground. His Duvolle AR and ridiculous HP were too much for me to assassinate.
Sometimes I hate this game.
A Scout does everything right, just to be boned by an increasingly easier EZ Mode. I shouldn't have to armor tank my Scout to drop something I sneak up behind. The fact that we Scouts currently have to is utter bullkittens. The fact that I lost these two fights -- even after defiling my Scout -- is disgusting.
This should never have happened. This "QQ" post should not exist. I beat up your team after you left that one skirmish match.

Apologies if this is a little off topic, i normally don't get into balance discussions. Waiting for full racial lineups of everything and solid core mechanics(getting there) before i start flappin' me gob on those topics ;)
Just want to point out Cat Merc's post on active scanners leveraging inherent dropsuit properties. I would love to see this principle applied to damage modules and the tankability of a suit. And many other things besides - this could turn into a very big topic, it's really a philosophy of suit design.
With suit bonuses rewritten to more rationally support roles, Cat Merc's idea could go a long way towards giving us interesting and rich dropsuit builds and likewise for gameplay. Definitely worth exploring the idea at the very least.
Working with what we have now, i would like to see this(hopefully temporary) trend of buffing suit HP morph into buffing suit resistances. This is primarily to leverage repair hives and reppers and to provide variety since resistances could be buffed differentially for the races/dropsuit types.
I would also like to see scouts using knives have an inherent ability to significantly bypass resistances when attacking undetected(not on minimap or in field of view) by the target.
Perhaps a lesser resistance bypass bonus could apply to any suit attacking undetected from behind. This would give scouts a natural advantage in their native role without distorting any of the existing game mechanics. Because of their intrinsic sensor strength and range advantage they would almost never be on the losing end of this except when being hunted by another scout.
For scouts choosing the frontal assault method there would be no advantage at all. |

Thanks for all the tips and feedback, guys. I admit I was more peeved than usual when posting.
After posting this, I switched to Duvolle Specialist and had better luck.
Amazing how that tiny 'bit of added range keeps damage on target when folks backpedal or jump backward, just out of SG optimal range, following that first blast. Anyhow, I'll adapt. I stand by my position that CCP should take a hard look at both CQC mechanics and CQC weapon balance.
In order of appearance, by subject matter:
Thor Odinson42, Fire of Prometheus Best to backout vs Nyain San, you're right. Shame; the tough fights are often the most fun.
FunkMaster Whale I hope you're wrong, sir. This game has so much potential.
Patrick57 Nova Knife is a Scout. His playtime as of late has spiked, which we take as promising sign.
ReGnYuM No further comment.
THUNDERGROOVE Thanks for the detailed response.
xxwhitedevilxx, Protocake JR, Rei Shepard, 8213 Thanks for the feedback and pointing out the Latency factor. It likely played more of a part than I realized.
Icedslayer Looking forward to your return, Scout Brother. o7
IgniteableAura These lovely lady lumps?
Kasote Denzara Haven't tried that yet. Tend to stick to my home server.
Appia Vibbia, Matticus Monk Thanks for the tips. I'll learn to trust my Shotgun again, eventually.
Cat Merc, Spectral Clone That ScR is just as nasty upclose as an AR. Both make for a tough SG fight.
Shutter Fly Great SG vs SG combat with you yesterday. Thanks for the support, sir.
Acturus Galaxy, Zatara Rought Taking your advice to heart; will work on getting into point-blank range before opening up.
Mortedeamor If I switch to flux, I'll lose reputation :-). Will consider either way. Thank you.
Assert Dominance Thanks for the kind words, sir. o7
Medic 1879 Feel your pain, brother. My preferred proto scout fir dies in is 0.3 - 0.5 seconds.
Alldin Kan Skirmish. 5 vs Alldin Kan. Alldin, Victory. Good stuff, sir. Would've stayed, but hunting one guy for 20 minutes ...
Thanks again, everyone. o7 |
