My only request: the Sharpshooter Skill should be the same 5% dispersion/level for every weapon.
Every automatic weapon should get the same Sharpshooter skill, or none should get it. AR and SMG do not need preferential treatment.

Sadly there used to be a sharpshooter skill for the HMG but when the game was released it was removed :( I would love to see SS skill for the HMG. |

That skill was different from this one. That sharpshooter was a range buff, this is an accuracy buff. The range buff was removed with good reason.

None in my opinion.
Give all weapons an ancillary skill that does something interesting and improves it's niche.
In my opinion weapon bonuses shouldn't reduce weaknesses but should enhance niches. |

Plus a slightly greater decrease in dispersion for the Assault variant. Not so much that you deal more damage at close range than the standard, but enough so that you deal more damage at a distance. If we had the Standard and Burst for 0-30m and the Assault for 20-40m (with the Assault progressively matching and then eclipsing the Standard between 20-30m), we'd have a little more variety to play.

So I'm an HMG user, and I actually think I'd rather just see the weapon fixed to work as intended, which would sort of clash with a sharpshooter skill. As I've always understood it, the point of the HMG was to fire a cone of bullets, filling up the circular reticle. So anyone in the cone area takes some percentage of your total DPS, meaning you can hit multiple targets if they're in that cone. This would actually make it the ultimate spray-and-pray weapon, as even as targets strafed out of the center of your reticle, they'd still be taking some damage just from your dispersion. And if CCP actually got on this, I don't know that sharpshooter would really make sense. |

I'm with you on the wide area spray thing, which is almost what we have now. The problem is that in order to make that off-target damage of any consequence the on-target DPS is going to be ridiculously OP.
Now, I have thought that maybe it should be a retractable skill, meaning you could turn it on or off, but that would require a super complex series of code that is currently out of reach.

I'm confused by what you mean. Why must this be so? Can't you just have something like 70% of your bullets go down a straight stream, and the remaining 30% fire omnidirectionally into the cone? |

How about this: When standing it has 1000 rpm, 0-30 meter optimal range and alot of dispersion, but when you crouch (witch takes time to do, leaving the heavy vulnerable in a short time) it has 2000 rpms, 60-70 meters optimal range and little dispersion. Sorta like the brace abiltity to the Heavy bolter in Spacemarine.
Because i think its the most inlogical thing i ever come across in a shooter game that a ballistic heavy weapon should be confined to CQC only. And its not even effective in CQC against skilled players because of the low damage per bullet, its not idiot proof to use it in its supposedly intended role to put it in that way. |

I'm with you. I definitely think that the Assault variants should have a greater dispersion reduction, to where the "cone" comes to a point at 80m or whatever they determine the max optimum range should be. From that point the "cone" becomes inverted and begins to disperse ammunition outward. Whereas, the normal variants disperse with the barrel of the weapon being the "point" of the cone, the Assault should be the exact opposite - with the barrel being greatest part of the cone and optimal being the apex. The Burst variants should have a wide, blown out cone, similar to the way they all perform now, with higher damage for a true CQC spray n' pray option. I'm not a fan of adding in additional gun physics to the crouch thing. Steadied aim and a slight dispersion buff that we get now seems on par.
In a separate thread earlier, I had the thought that dispersion should be a variable like damage or splash damage with significant bonuses from MLT to Proto weapons. The thought is that, in real life, you buy better guns because of their accuracy (dispersion) over inferior models.
*Other thoughts to contribute to the OP and Heavies in general: Current Sentinel Reload Bonus should be swapped for a Overheat Reduction. This would allow you to make use of the Ammo Capacity skill, without fizzling out halfway through a clip. With that change, reduce current reload time by 25%. This is still a 6 second reload for lesser skilled players and still at about 4.5-5 seconds for someone with max Reload Skill (every HMG build should get this first anyways, right?) which is where we are now.

First I do not use an HGM, but several of my corpmates do. From what I have seen they need a slight range increase say 5m maybe 10m, cause right now, you see an Heavy with a Proto HMG and he get gunned down by a militia assault rilfe user at 40m, I think that is kind of a problem, as I consider 40m to be pretty close. We should all fear an HMG when we get close to them, they should be able to lead the push on the enemy, cause no one wants to be on the receiving end of the HMG. I am currently not afraid to engage a heavy with an HMG unless I am at 10m or less, anything else, and well, its my scrambler rifle for the win.
So I am not sure that dispersion is the problem so much as range.
Also saw a post or two above that suggest different dispersion for different variants, the long range assault HMG having the least, +1 on that. |
