Hmm, lookie here. Another one of these somewhat sloppy articles by a journalist who seems to have very little scope for how Dust's various mechanics and systems interlock.
Is the game good? Well no I think we're all pretty well done with that line of discussion and agree that the poor thing needs work. Does Dust need to be more like Planetside 2? In most ways, no. PS2 and Dust have very, very different philosophies behind them.
I get tired of people taking articles like these overly seriously. The guy who wrote this one sounds like he has played more PS2 than he has Dust and simply needed content for an article. At best he plays more Eve than anything else, and it shows. He even references an incorrect size for PC battles.

What I got out of it, it is on PC. That is all. Although I wouldn't mind if maybe CCP would throw us casually corps a bone once and a while and bring back Corp Battles (with proto/officer rewards for victor). |

Accurate but almost too forgiving on CCP. Doesn't mention the huge bugs, lack of content for 6 months and everything else that's wrong with this game.
It still beggars belief that CCP with the DUST license and all the hype behind it a few years back have fumbled the ball this badly.
We we're expecting mech suits and lava planets by now.
Instead we're stuck with lag in PC, no Eve link and hit detection only just being implemented.
Absolutely tragic. |

Hopefully the new guy in charge, CCP Rouge will make the game everything we want it to be. Still I think that the game needs to get out of beta. I liked the beta the promise of more was there, now with the promise of SOON, well...IDK what to think. When the game was introduced they gave us a 5-10 year roadmap. We have come to the near end of year 1 (2 years in) and with 4-9 more to go maybe all it needs is an accelerated timetable, more investment from outside sources and more work. I could handle sporting a Coca-cola logo on my dropsuit if thats what it took to get the game to where we have been expecting it to get to for such a long time. How about you?

I don't know what idiot thought up a 10 year roadplan.
CCP needed to have the game ready and able to integrate with eve at launch.
If we are going to be waiting 10 years for this game to actually get reasonably good then CCP need to rethink their ideas and pronto. |

Just lol. Dust is already ten times the game PS2 is and the writer is simply riding PC's joystick. PS2 could learn a whole lot from Dust in terms of spawn mechanics, weapons balance and player customization. The only nugget of wisdom here is that Faction Warfare should be more persistent. PC should certainly be expanded to other systems but no player corp could field the manpower to control anything even remotely resembling the size and scale of PS2's maps. Bigger isn't always better and PS2 reeks of inconsequentiality.

I would pay more attention to the comments than the article then. Those are former and potential customers giving their opinions. Which are the ones that matter really. 99% of them have negative opinions of Dust. Which no one who has actually played the game can fault them for IMO. This game has serious problems. Anyone who denies otherwise is either a blind fanboi or just stupid. |

What I found spot on about the article was the advertised product is far from the actual product. I think his main actual point that was made is correct. CCP has not yet delivered what they had indicated they plan to deliver. The caveat that CCP left in there is that they want 5-10 years to do it in, which from a gamer's point of view is 3 kids and a wife possible the 1st and second degree (college or univ) later they may want to play the game CCP has laid out for future development. They don't want to wait they want it now, have bought into the advertised game for what it is supposed to become yet it isn't the game we see now. This is the concern raised in the article, and shouldn't be swept under the rug just because some(if not all) of the facts were wrong.

The article is correct on a lot of stuff there, but let's be realistic here.
We already know about this for a long time. But the article couldn't have picked a worst time to be posted. In just one more month when 1.7 hits, a lot of what that article pointed out will slowly become outdated information. Especially in the Factional Warfare department.

It takes time to correct course and anybody paying attention can tell that's what they are trying to do. In the six months covered in this article other games would have shut down. Instead, CCP has doubled their efforts and started rebuilding the game. We've all had valid concerns about DUST but if I were a betting man I'd say DUST will be here in another six months and Planetside 2 will be shut down. |

Not sure if Planetside 2 will shut down, or at least that soon. I'm betting it could live long just like Dust 514 will. We'll just have to see how it all turns out 5 years down the line.

It's dead as soon as the servers shut down. Until then, PS2 is still alive... unless you can show me a link proving that their servers are shutting down.

Yeah, Neocron wants a word with you.
Also, have you been online in PS2 lately? The map colors are moving either clockwise or counterclockwise all the time. Its a stompfest and nobody really plays it seriously anymore, because frankly, there is no point. |

Agree with Draco.
I also think the 10 year roadmap etc is used too much as a crutch.
Some gameplay mechanics and fanciful features (along with ideas that havent even been though of yet) will come to the game over time. Others will come in shortly as the issues are worked out and other (Story styled plot points etc) content can also be delivered at specified times over the lifespan.
BUT!!!!!
The initial setup of this game that has been shown for well over a year now should have been there at launch. There is no way around that and all the "Its CCP" "Look at EVE" "this game was made for 10 years" rhetoric are poor excuses and no real comfort.
I am truly hoping that 1.7 can deliver alot of the base content but by Mar / April we should be racially complete and looking to expand on the universe.
Dust a year later should have PvE, should have more "personal" battles and not just a lobby shooter feel and should have more interaction with EVE.
The game needs to grow beyond the 'nerf the Logi, buff the Laser rifle' to 'remember what we did in the battle of..' and 'look at my new Rifle/Vehicle. I sure scammed those losers on Planet..."
I think we are a year delayed but I am still hoping for so much more. |

The moment I saw him comparing it to PS2 I closed it. There's no such thing such as comparison in those two. It may have deliciously smooth shooting mechanics but the gameplay gets so boring and never quite feels competitive due to always being one sided. And don't tell me DUST is as one sided when it comes to matches because in comparison to that, it's not. PS2 is for people like PRO to go and join because zerging is the way to go.

One thing that I would like to see is what race in FW is having the largest effect on EVE. Telling me I affect EVE is one thing but I want to see a map or even just some numbers. Also if EVE players could sweeten the payout for working for them like Caldari give me more skill points vs Minmatar giving out more isk per win. I need a reason to care or it is just another shooter.

I need a reason to care or it is just another shooter. I think you have a very good point, it doesn't matter if we win or lose at the moment, only how much isk we can make. I would certainly like to see a great deal of improvement in the mechanics that affect Eve and vice versa. There should be a reason the games are both on the same server and IMO at this point in time that very basic premise (One Universe) should have gotten a lot more focus in the early stages before launch and even now as the racial variants of weapons, suits and vehicles are added. There are so many things that need to be added that I am surprised someone in the CCP boardroom hasn't made a point of telling devs to get it done. Manufacturing, market, PVE, trade and contracts are all important things that I am sure no Eve player would ever want to be without, how we have gone this long without them is a serious question that should be addressed and I believe was when the company hired CCP Rouge.
