Sigh...
Article is written by an eve pilot that has expressed disdain for the game's mere existence and his information is hearsay basis.

'Instanced' battles yup pretty factually wrong there.

Yeah, Neocron wants a word with you. Also, have you been online in PS2 lately? The map colors are moving either clockwise or counterclockwise all the time. Its a stompfest and nobody really plays it seriously anymore, because frankly, there is no point.
Map colors on matherson barely change at all over an hour, that includes the lack of explosions.

Goric Rumis wrote:The Planetary Conquest concept isn't, generally speaking, a bad idea. It would just cause the PS3 to collapse under the resource weight, and probably the server as well. I imagine a lot of R&D would be required to make those hundreds of truly persistent worlds on the Tranquility server run in real-time at FPS fidelity. That feature alone seems like it could take several years.
But even for FW, the PS2 districts flip way too quickly. The map shouldn't shift as much as it does over the course of 24 hours, based simply upon who happens to have more people logged into the server at a particular time. And the "resources for equipment" idea just doesn't fit the profiteering, lawless frontier represented by the New Eden universe, while also requiring you to reduce the customization to relatively meaningless choices.
There's precious little to be learned from PS2, and we all know it. If I were to take one lesson, it would actually be the map construction that makes vehicles meaningful but unable to grief infantry into oblivion. Maybe if DUST's maps were less like Manus Peak and more like some of the facilities in PS2, we could have vehicles that are very hard to kill without them redlining whole teams within the first 60 seconds. I think the most recent (Research Facility?) is a big step in the right direction. Being able to deny vehicles access to some areas unless you hack a panel might also be a good feature.
The Research outpost is the first of the new standard of outpost maps.
