I have been playing Dust since early closed Beta (June 2012). Tonight I had one of the most unique experiences so far in this game, and it was awesome.
Last night I decided to run some Caldari FW, did well, got invited to Caldari FW chat channel. I didn't think much of it at the time.
Tonight, things really opened up. It started with 2 squads Qsyncing, then 3, then 4 and then 5! We had 5 squads Qsyncing for Caldari and we had EVE support for our OBs. It was amazingly fun.
I called in my first strike from EVE...and got zero kills, it was a blind shot in the redline as we were crushing it. Next strike took out 5 guys and did 12,000 damage on the CRU, or so I was told. Called in about 5 strikes total from EVE side. It was a lot of fun just switching chat channels to where the EVE guys were waiting and I would say, "Titus ready for OB", and then they would lock on the district and then boom booms would come from the sky (they looked cool, different than the Warbarge strikes, I think we called in lasers)
I had a ton of fun and am really looking forward to the new FW system as it seems like it is going to be even better.
For the first time, I really felt like I was feeling how this game is supposed to make you feel, a part of something bigger, a part of New Eden. Playing with strangers in different games but engaged in a commonness together
Shout Out to a few folks but I am sure I am missing some Middas Bentancore Mr Tang Rageheavy Horus Forge plus many others

All the while the people on the other side were probably having the worst experience of their time on DUST. Because you see while pushing them back behind the redline and then OBing them to oblivion was fun for you it must have been extremely frustrating for them. Maybe even to the point of making them want to quit this game for good. But hey at least you had fun, right? Pffff, CCP needs to fix this kinda of crap. In pubs, redline is the norm and good fights the exception.
My experience so far in Caldari FW has been that good fights are the norm and redlines the exception.
And in fact, the only reason I began playing Caldarwi FW is because I was seeking out better fights than the boring redlines. Most games have been quite close. I suggest if anyone else is seeking a challenge to check out Gallente FW.

CCP Nullarbor wrote:Ferocitan wrote:if CCP could make better tools /enable an easier way to integrate chat /voice in matches between Eve and Dust without opening chat tab and change channels and write stuff for that damn orbital... I'm going to put EVE pilots into the team chat when they connect so you can type and talk to them. That should make things a little easier. I think this would help.
In all honesty, I don't know what a better solution would be, I don't like crowded Comms so giving the EVE pilot the ability to join our Comms and then leave is great. |

I started this thread here for answers: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1452805#post1452805
I do not think CCP has established "official" channels, I believe they are all player driven...hence their game models. |

Kristoff Atruin wrote:I wouldn't want an automatic switch to team voice. Right now TEST has a channel for our mercs and bombardment-minded pilots to share comms. It's handy to simple be able to say the name of a planet, and receive feedback about whether or not orbital support will be possible. Usually it works out, but sometimes gate camps or hostile fleets in system stop him from connecting. I'd rather know that before I get the WP for my first orbital and look up in the sky, wondering if he's ever going to make it to the system. I agree that is beneficial to discuss the logistics before hand.
I am not sure how it works for the Pilots but I know that being a squad leader and switching between channels while trying to call an OB while trying to not get shot and still help your team can be cumbersome. I would like to give notice to a pilot that I am ready for OB and then be on team comes and when they connect I can coordinate that they are ready to strike and I am ready to call it in and my team can relay where to call it in.
But I do have a fear of over crowded comms. |

i liked it because no matter what corp we are in we were fighting for the same cause, the state protectorate :)
those tactial hybrid strikes thou... OP much :P blast radius stats please???
I saw people on my side use that thing. It is beastly. Yes. The first time I saw an EVE-based OB, I was in awe. Not only are they much more awesome looking, but the faster rate of fire makes it sound insane as well. Can't wait for pure laser OB's, though. Hopefully some type of continuous beam laser, scorching everything it touches. A glorious beam of holy, purifying light from the Heavens. Would be truly awe-inspiring indeed. It would be awesome if each racial ship had different "OBs" with different color, sound, and style! oh yeah I believe the strikes vary visually by ammo type... |

Middas Betancore wrote:CCP Nullarbor, I believe that having pilots joining team chat when they connect to districts may not be the ideal modification, when we are using eve support a lot of the time the strike ship will be in the system in a safe spot waiting for the signal from the ground teams that they are ready for orbital support as siting over the district connected is quite unsafe.
Perhaps as an alternative the pilots could have an option on their menus when in system, as well as being able to warp to district they can "establish comm up-link" which will connect them to the team chat for the relevant district battle. This would enable the pilot to stay in direct contact with the ground teams so when they are going to require OB support he can warp to the district and safely warp away when not needed.
Another option would be to allow pilots to search for team channels by inputting the planet and district designation into channel finder, allowing them to be in contact as they are traveling to the site.
As a final note, during one session we had 4 squads split between two planets in the same system with one strike ship in system for support, which again can present its only problems for easy communication.
We used a central channel which included the pilot and the primary squad, while other squads used either squad chat or team chat under their own preference, then whenever a strike became available the squad leader would switch to the central channel and request support, the pilot would then move to the appropriate location and deliver the strike. Though this may sound awkward to some, it worked flawlessly with all squads being able to deliver their strikes within a minute of being requested on both planets.
I hope this information is helpful to dev teams and other players It did work surprisingly well and to be honest, being one of those squad leaders and having to facilitate the logistics added to the immersion and excitement. It was difficult, but worth it.
Might be nice to as you are saying, have a pilot in the system and be able to "check in" on the various teams in to see if they are ready for a strike and then the pilot can move into position. I am not an eve player but is it easier for a pilot/PC to switch comms rather than a FPSer?
