Considering the current scanning range stats 'before' the buff, if you opt to have 4 complex range amps and 1 complex precision enhancer on a gk.0 scout you are looking at a 99.46m scan radius with a 32.4m precision. After the buff that always on scanning distance is going to increase tremendously. With that fit you can still rock a Carthum Scrambler, TY-5 Scrambler Pistol, and Ishukone Gauged Uplinks.
Passive scans are not shared with your team, but they are shared with your squad. A skilled scout could be a tremendous asset to their squad by being able to signal targets without warning the enemy by a "YOU HAVE BEEN SCANNED" notification. By opting for medium long range weaponry, you have the ability to get the drop on targets from a distance.

I see what they were thinking.
"Hmm. Scouts have the same amount of HP as a nanohive. How should we deal with this?"
...
....
"FRANK, I've got it!"
"What? Make scouts into nanohives?"
"No you idiot. Make scouts into those stationary scanners all those trolls in that cess pit of a forum have been asking for!"
"Bob... You're a genius. How do we implement this?"
"Simple! After some rapid, highly advanced calculations I just did in my head, we need to boost the scan radius of scouts by about 2pi!"
"Of course... Pi... Why didn't I see the connection sooner!"
"Now, if we factor in the prototype bonus for range amplifiers, and the bonus on the Gallente prototype scout suit, we get close to 100m PASSIVE SCAN RANGE!"
"That's interesting, Bob. What does the scanner say about the percentage of people who have prototype range amplifiers and prototype Gallente scout suits?"
"Ah, my friend. We can't have too many of these OP scout scanners, can we? It's best the numbers are how they are."
"Well I'm going to get some pie."

Stacking penalties apply to Range Amplifiers. This has been confirmed by CCP.
A Scout's passive scan results are not shared with his Squad (or Team). Scouts performing a Recon role carry an Active Scanner.

>:D Not much, but it's progress. He could try and get up behind you, but that'd be hard with how well organized corps watch all angles. He could try to sneak into an objective an hack some stuff, but he'd probably realize through scans that there is always someone watching everything. He could relay your locations without warning you that you've been scanned, but that's still not quite as good as warning the enemy but also letting everyone see positions for themselves.
It is just a little less useless than it once was, but for pubs and FW it'll probably work quite well.

Very interesting numbers, they look like they will be a massive boon to the scouts that actually scout and sneak around rather than the guys that try bunny hopping towards you head on with a shotgun Almost makes me want to try it out but Id still rather go Min scout

Thank God I have an alt that's speccing into Gallente scout at the moment. It's nearly at Gallente scout dropsuit level 5. And yes my alt does have a bit of its core skills up somewhat and it can sport enhanced range amps.

Depending on how far you have speced into dampening, you should only show up with 30.37db profile. It would be helpful to add that additional Profile Dampener.

Quote 1) I don't know you, Aero, but I like you. You think like a Scout. I'm thinking Range Amp, Armor Plate (so I can actually kill something), Armor Rep, and KinCat or CardReg. KinCat or CardReg to be substituted for Profile Dampener in the off chance someone's running a 28 dB scanner. IMHO, precision enhancers aren't worth the high slot; would recommend two or three a Shield Extender or Damage Amp.
Quote 2) I believe your maths are correct. To date, I've encountered precisely two (2) opponents running a 15 dB scanner. Not to say more folks won't run it, but its a whole lot of resources to devote to nailing down the one or two (generally harmless, always squishy) Scouts. |

1 Merc Shoe = 1 CCP meter (Grab a partner and check it out in the MCC)
I remember a discussion where nerd lore said that Mercs were 7m tall. Which as an American, it makes it easier to equate one meter in-game to one SAE foot measure. This malformed unit of measure results in many tears here, with people wanting to equate what they determine to be an Imperial proportionate measure is actually about 60% shorter than they think.
This is another case of CCP taking something so simple and remaking it into something so unnecessarily difficult and useless.
