Eve/Dust-five-one-four is a new experience for us greenie blue berries, sold squad, then corporation vision catchers. Wow, what a learning curve, even for the likes of us MAG graduates.
So I start digging into the docs, and surfing the web, now venturing queries to you, the already initiated GǪ is there really any hope?
The newbie hears tell of billions of ISK, some free flowing to corporations and mercenaries, in the dream land of Federation Warfare and Planetary Conquest, with Corporation contracts and districts to be had, Clone production, storage and moving factories to be built etc.
Is my only hope in joining one of a hand full of mega sized Player owned Corps? Can I realistically help grow a small corp into some piece of this pie? How is a new corp to bootstrap the high cost of ISK for that first district, and a production factory, then storage then movement etc?
Will the hopes and hard work of gathering a few, among the high competition of GÇ£come here and join us, no, here, well what about hereGÇ¥ be instantly dashed by trying to play with the big boys and current owners after trying to come up with the entrance fee?
Is there really any hope, is there any path for the small corporation to play PC?

It's hard for small corporations to get into PC. The only way you're likely to get into PC with your corp is recruit heavily and wait for your players to develop, as many will be too new to compete, I would think. |

Yes, and new is a very relative term. For example, I'm not one that was here from beta, but have been around from first official release. And yet just passing the advanced levels and working on 4's and 5's in a small and focused set of proto level skills. And that with an Elite Pack, 2 Veteran packs, Omega boosters, and active boosters running non-stop.
And yet, just an intermediate among the many proto giants found on the field.
It is a bit discouraging, that even trying to assemble a group that might be able to "pay to play" really has no hopes here.

As a small corp you won't be able to. All though the player base isn't very big, there aren't enough planets to go around. I'm not saying every corp should have a district, but the idea of getting spread too thin isn't present here. If there was more space (no pun intended) small corps could hold/fight for fringe districts. |

if you can field 16 or so good guys regularly, for one hour every day. and they are GOOD not mediocre and they have 10mill sp in a well specced toon. you can hold one district but it wout be cheap. get on good terms with the local ringers and pay them well to fill out your ranks. pc takes dedication you and your guys have to be willing to kill an hour a day playing dust no matter what is going on IRL or you will lose the district.
I feel like the cool uncle who says "yea you can have a drink, but don't over do it".

The ISK barrier is appropriately set to be honest. If you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it. But that's not a bad thing. Because this game allows people to bootstrap a corp to the highest levels if you have the patience. And by patience, I mean plan to spend at least three months just establishing a foundation before you buy your first clone pack if you're not bringing in vets.
By the time you get into PC - by which I mean you can afford the clone packs to sustain an assault on a district and take it and have the wherewithal to defend it 'long term' measured in weeks/months - you need to be in a spot where:
- your mean player SP is at a ~10mil minimum - you have at least one guy who understands WTF is going on and can FC a fight half competently - the above guy along with other competent guys in the corp has analyzed the roles you have, roles you need, recruited appropriately, and at least brainstormed doctrines around the above (or at the very least watch some vids and copycat the ****) - your members are on the same page about where the corporation is going and are willing to 'play the objective' and bounce back from defeats - you have solid squad-based play - your players have proto setups in their chosen role - your players understand what 'isk positive' means in pub matches, have stocked up PROTO fits and have an ISK reserve, and are willing/able to drop 10mil ISK at the drop of a hat to the corp wallet when you need to generate 200mil for attacks or ringer support or roll in BPOs at 100% tax rates for a week or two to generate startup ISK but at the same time are used to and unafraid of using and losing 10+ 150k ISK proto suits in a single battle - you are forward looking and adaptable enough to deal with the constantly changing gameplay environment that each patch brings
And most importantly...
- you have 15-20 players, every day, seven days a week, forever, all online at the same time each day as your chosen timer that meet the above requirements. Since this is a game, not the RL military, that means you need either an insanely dedicated group of 20 dudes in brolove with each other enough to tell their wife/kids/moms to **** off they have a PC battle ... every night, seven days a week, forever... or you need to get your 'paper' numbers up to something in the 30+ very active or 60+ sorta casual depending on the design of your corp.
Baring any major shifts from CCP (like, making a persistent battlefield or creating 6-man raid battles or some ****), the above requirements are going to stand for a while.
It's truly a pain in the ass.
The only way you will exist in PC with less than the above will be at the whim and pleasure of corps that DO have the above figured out. [Edit: And the above is actually pretty 'ok' ... no one has even started asking for Rent in this game and coming up under the wing of a larger corp can be a great idea.]
Luckily, FW is coming to fill the gap for smaller corps that want something more than pub matchs. Personally though, thinking back to Chromosome, some of the most fun times were back just grindin out pub matches without a care in the world trying out new things with new friends. So either sit back, relax, and enjoy... or get the **** to work. You've got a long road ahead of you and the ISK is the least of your concerns. GL |

^--- and that's not to say that dumping 36mil on a clone pack to bring some friends into a match for some fun / training is a bad thing. just know what you're getting into.

Cross,
Recommendation is to focus on building a small, high quality corp and then joining an established alliance. This will do a couple things for you; 1) you establish your organization and start building the ISK warchest, and 2) if you've chosen the Alliance well it will likely help jumpstart you with some varsity ringers for minimal to no cost for BOTH attack and defense.
I would not look into the notion of buying a district to get started under any circumstance if you aren't in an Alliance. Way too much skullduggery (yeah... I said it ).

FW is Faction Warfare. It tends to be a bit more organized on each side than pub matches, as each team is more likely to come in as squads instead of a bunch of lone wolves. It's open to anyone though, so there isn't any need to buy clone packs or worry about timers.
It's better practice for PC than pub skirmish. The "upcoming" aspect involves some changes coming in the hopefully not-too-distant future that will solidify the Eve-Dust connection, and provide a bonus (and gear) for being loyal to a certain faction. |

Your new first grow, make friends then get into to PC don't get into it the first time to actually keep 1. Get it then sell it off for 80 million or so ISK this will greatly further you along in the future just be sure when you go to do this that you are seriously ready & set you need friends, & a buyer possibly prior to it all. This is just a few tips not giving away all the secrets to success now :) lol |
