In other words ;
Buy passive SP boosters and AFK in the MCC for 6 months before you can play the game....

Sarah Conner also whined when she was put against the Terminator, but in the end she won ...well sorta won :p
Seriously though, i do agree that matchmaking is far from ok i mean
Start game ...all alone on one side, other side has a team ....ok ....5 seconds later, i get a MLT scrub on my side ...other side gets another team....
Wait ...what ? SCOTTTYYYYYYYY YOU BASTARD!!!

I have been wondering if there is a way to play the system, like intentionally holding your kd/r very low (0.01), then your matchmaking value will be far less, so you get placed more often on the teams that are doing the proto stomping. I'm assuming that the matchmaker tries to balance people's value on both teams. |

Match making cannot work because:
A. Not enough people to create a large enough pool of players to pull from. B. KDR, SP and suit type mean very little when compared to tactics and squad play.
Segregate the battle by the meta level of the suit's total meta level (all weapons, equipment and modules meta added to the suit meta) and only allow mercs with similar meta into the match. There is no other way to do it and call it a sandbox or make matchmaking work. More than anything we need more people playing. |

There is no such thing as matchmaking in this game. As far as I am aware, the current matchmaking implementation doesn't even attempt to separate new players in militia gear from veterans in proto gear: it is not a design goal. The matchmaking algorithm only tries to make both sides of the battle even (I'm not going to comment on how successful it is at that).
My understanding is that "6 squadded protovets+ 10 unsquadded militia noobs" vs. "6 squadded protovets + 10 unsquadded militia noobs" would be considered by the current system to be perfect matchmaking and completely balanced.
It would, of course, be absolutely horrendous for the militia noobs.
If a blue tag could refute this I'd be delighted. |

There never has been matchmaking in this game. So it has not changed, just saying. |

SP doesn't make a good match. Junk players like me with 12M SP still don't stand a chance against good players with 3-4M SP. They only way to create good fights is to segregate the battles by gear so that suit choices, team play, tactics and the player's skill have more of an impact over the outcome. As it is in most battles you either get rolled or do the rolling because of the imbalance of gear. While SP does play a part of the imbalance after about 4M SP a good merc can have a well developed suit fitted to their playstyle and any SP past that starts to widen their options more than focus their ability. |

Just keep going dude. Its nasty as hell at first but then you start to meet other players who can take on the protobears and win using militia gear. Use the squad finder and hit up all the squads you can and learn from every encounter. Yeah protobears are hard but think of the isk you cost them everytime they lose one of their precious suits and fittings
DUST is not friendly to new players or even veterans. That's why I like this game. It f*cks you up and makes you work hard. |

As robot said, there are not enough people playing the game to support matchmaking right now.
You either have.... a.) the way it is now and being able to get into a game in <1 minute b) matchmaking which could take 5-10 minutes to get into a game and you end up fighting the same people most of the time.
To have a game load up every 30 seconds for every mode you need Ambush - Say 10 minute average length * 32 = 640 players Domination - 15 minute average length * 32 = 960 players Skirmish - 20 minute average length * 32 players = 1280 players
Total - 2880 players to fill the queue for 30 second windows between games with no matchmaking
And that is in a perfect world where players queue up in a staggered rotation. The numbers just dont allow for any further division in the game either for new modes or matchmaking. |

matchmaking is crap there's doubting it ........iv started walking out on fights when im in the barge and my team consists of nothing but npc non squadded mercs, hell yesterday scotty tried to pit me solo against 1 squad of sver and 1 squad of wtf , swift exit ensued after they took all the points, I was still solo at this point..
unfortunately most of the folks I see defending proto stomping/matchmaking are scrubs who don't want to dent their kd by going up against mercs that stand a chance of winning.
half of these proto squads would never have thrown 5 or 6 proto suits at a pub game back in chrome as a well fitted proto drop suit cost round the mill mark pending on your class. when they dropped the price for proto they opened a can of worms and now if they try to raise it again you will see all these scrubs crying and threatening to leave. |

The biggest problem that I see is that one side has two organized corp squads and the other side has all npc corps. The organized tactics of these squads is really what leads to the stomping. Just put the two different corps on each side.
Now before you tell me to join a corp, I will eventually. I don't want to be on the stomping side, too boring and my skills wont improve. Win or lose, I just want close, edge of your seat battles where you don't know who wins until the screen tells you. |

I don't think so, my kdr is probably like .001. Matchmaking hasn't for me been as bad as it was a while back but it is still pretty bad. I don't understand CCP's plan on this, if it weren't for my kids enjoying the game and the amount of time we spend laughing about it, I would have quit long ago.
A simple training ground with AI would satisfy all of the beginners and not tryhards that just want to go in, blast stuff up, and be Godlike. I know that I have no interest in the role playing side of it and no matter how much work goes into the lore, it is laughable. The idea that with all the technology at this societies disposal that battle would be done with clones is laughable in itself.
Given that, an area where mercs train against other mercs in nothing but militia gear and no skills would only make sense.
More rant, I made another character so that I could try out kbm in the battle academy. There were guys that that I have to guess were there just to stomp on new guys. Weird.
