So I am a new player to Dust and here is my experience of my first week in Dust.
Day 1 : Joined the battle academy, first match scored enough war points and was kicked from the academy.
Day 1 (continued) : into the game, played about 20 games got proto stomped every game, then received mail, telling me how crap I am and should go back to the battle academy.
Day 2 : tried again, same as day 1, game now deleted. |

To be fair, you probably have more potential skill then they do if you're fresh out of the academy and they could only perform in a proto squad.
Assuming you don't rightfully just quit this game, have a friendly chuckle to yourself everytime you see a group of try hards trying to prove themselves to you in their money squad

try again and join a corporation like The Unholy Legion of Darkstar or Dust Core because i know some good people in there that could help you out, or join some of the training corps that will help you out since there training all new people and will hopefully give you good advice. (go to rookie traning grounds to see what training corps there are) |

Your first day you weren't necessarily proto-stomped, you were pretty much stomped by everyone that wasn't on their first month.
It may not work for everyone but when you start at this game you pretty much just need to avoid the enemy. Use any starter fit that will carry a drop uplink. Look at where the action is and go somewhere else. Hack whatever is free and drop uplinks.
After several months with my kids still misallocating my SP, I still use this strategy. I'm too aggressive to avoid fighting all the time though so I probably die 5 times for every kill I get.
For me this is a strategy game, with only 16 players there is almost always an opening somewhere. Except for Ambush, I have no interest in that.
Also, play with the mass driver and plasma cannon. You may only get the odd random kill but they just feel good to shoot. :) |

This game is the Demon Souls/Dark Souls of FPS. It WILL NOT hold your hand, but with that their are a few training schools you can enroll it that will sit with you and walk you through the game. |

I'd recommend finding a niche you can capitalise on. The merc market is saturated with ARs & logis, whereas dedicated scouts, hackers & DS pilots are in short supply.
These are areas where you only need to function in order to be appreciated and rewarded, but can still excell in as you level the builds up. |

How does someone play the game 2 days and is fully aware of the term "Protostomp"?
I think this guy made an alt to try and make a point.
All new players will get stomped, not just Protostomped. I think CCP needs to start players off with more money, so they at least have a chance in a STD fit. |

I'm inclined to disagree. On my first day Dusting, I scoured these forums looking for SP progression tips. Picked up all kinds of terminology in the process. Also, prior FPS experience carried over and I played fairly well early on. Then again, shotguns in Chromosome were substantially more effective than today's.

BA can be cleared in one go. I did when I created an alternate. Between hacking the objective twice, the supply depot like three times and going 27 and 2 ( I love new players, they just stand there and let me snipe them in the head) I cleared it in one go... |

This game is going to have about 12 players if they don't make it a priority to end proto stomping. All they need is a graduated tier system, y'know like they have in Eve with the sec. levels.
Fact is, CCP is hoping that each new player will buy some AUR before they figure out how broken the game is. |

Don't give-up because of some "idiots" going around DUST514. Most of the players here have good spirits.
Yes, entering a game that was out for a while is never easy. Allot of frustration. But if you find the right people, or just a good group of people, you will enjoy this game as much as I/We do.
Many people advise you here, like they said, if you need help, I/We are more then happy to help you get your groove going.
Give it another chance.

I had a similar experience -- got steamrolled by better players in better suits for quite some time (about 2000 deaths -- a few months).
However, unlike the quitter's mentality exhibited (or purported to have been exhibited) by the OP, I thought...
"Damn, this is a real challenge.... I love it!"
And now that I kill more than I die the resulting sense of accomplishment is more than worth the hit to my ego in the early days.

Probably for the best. 
CCP be trolling everyone for 18 months, this game needs to get its **** together. It has (did have?) promise.
Day 1: It's stupidly easy to get out of the acadamy in the first match and after that you are permanantly at a disadvantage unless you can get lucky & find a starter corp to help you out or you are an fps god or just don't mind a challenge & trying not to die a lot.
Day 2: If you managed to stay past day 1 & try again why were you expecting it to be different the next day??
Search the corp recruitment section & find people who can help you out, otherwise play smart, squad up, use a mic. Surviving is a learning experience use the knowledge you gain to help you next time.

Just takes 1 person in a game to say we are being proto stomped. You pick up the terminology. The training academy isn+¿t what it used to be. Now it is possible to get out in 1 day. Don't give up. We girls can hold our own..so you can too. Just give it time. Shoot and hide and learn from the players around you. |

Quick answer:
Join Dust University, they will teach you the ropes.
Slightly longer answer:
I don't think the right term to use anymore is "proto stomp", since even the proto users complain they are now being killed by militia weapons. 
What I think happened was that the opposition was more experienced than you, and by that I don't mean skills or gear, but just a fundamental knowledge of the strategies and gameplay of Dust 514.
I created an Alt to check out the new tutorial, and after exiting the academy (in two games, so you beat me there), I thought I would get my a** handed to me, but it did not happen to my surprise  . I managed to go positive KDR in all games, since:
1) I knew the maps outside in
2) I knew how to pick my targets
3) I knew when NOT to engage the enemy
Etc.
This outweighed (by far) the fact that I was running around in the starter fit with basic gear. (And man did I feel naked without my active scanner!!)
I hardly think you can get this knowledge after two days, so my advice would be to get back in there, and follow my first advice. |

This is the best advice I can give to new players:
1. Create main character (the one with passive SP activated) and play until you're told you are leaving academy
2. Create first alt until you're told you are leaving academy, then biomass (delete) it
3. Create second alt until you're told you are leaving academy, then biomass (delete) it
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for three months, by which time you'll have experience from all those academy battles, and 2 mil passive SP on your main
5. Finally go back to your main and launch your first non-academy battle
Unfortunately you will probably be leaving the academy after your first battle each time, so you will have to create a new character for each battle you fight, and will only be able to fight two battles per day due to the ten hour biomass queue (unless you make extra accounts). Blame CCP for making the academy WP threshold so low. |

You only need 1200 WP to advance out of the academy ... seeing as your in a match with other new players it is pretty easy to get 1200WP if you've played FPS games before especially when everyone is using miltia gear and are evenly balanced

There are a lot of kids / idiots so keep that in mind.
re-install the game give psygod a shout or any members in it. We generally are not a newbie corp so i can't say we will put you into the corp however there are a lot of people i play with from psygod that wouldn't mind talking to you and showing you tips and such.
Protostomping sucks and it still happens to me at times even with my 8 million some odd sp's. I have no idea what the matchmaking system uses to create a match but its crap.
Use starter fits or very cheap gear until you find a role that you like to play. Its simply not worth wasting your isk until you find what you like.
Just delete any hatemail you get. People that write that crap need to realize everyone doesn't just start playing this game and are instantly good at it.

New players might get stomped regardless, but it's not exactly a fair fight when the other guy has 75% more health and deals 40% more damage. It really is quite discouraging. However, Dust 514 is as much MMO as FPS, so it's to be expected.
My advice for STD gear users is to pick a weapon OTHER than an Assault Rifle. If you pick the Assault Rifle, you'll be directly competing with most of the proto users, which usually ends in death unless you get them from behind. I tried going Assault and did not have fun, even when going positive. Laser and Sniper Rifles can keep you further away from the combat. If you've got good aim, the burst of the Scrambler Rifle can drain a lot of health, especially to the head, and give you an early advantage. Later on, Scrambler Rifles have an automatic variant which is as good as the Assault Rifle. Always carry a SMG with you if you use a medium or long range weapon. Upgrading the SMG to STD helps a lot due to the ammo boost, as does upgrading to a STD AR if you still go that way, since it also has more ammo per clip than the militia variant.
If all else fails and you're being seriously protostomped, there's always the Militia Forge Gun. |
