A few months ago I made a video about DUST while it was still in Beta. I bashed the game to Kingdom Come. I talked about how the mechanics and core functions don't work, I talked about the Protostomp skill gap. I talked about the AURUM system being a little to convenient, etc, etc, etc...
I received death threats, was called an idiot, and flat out crazy... But as time goes on I see the number of people who are dissatisfied with the game growing. More people are leaving the game. -I can't verify this, but I've heard multiple times that more people have left DUST than have played it, which means a turn-away rate of over 50% I see on Twitter, YouTube, this forum, and in the game itself more-and-more people are experiencing what I was pointing out back then.
Maybe I am crazy, but more people seem to be seeing the "light and how CCP operates. They did it with EVE, and they are using the same formula for DUST 514, but the difference is, this game doesn't have the same circumstances. Players have a host of new choices around the corner: Titan Fall, Destiny, CoD Whatever, BF4,... not to mention non-FPS titles like GTA5, FF14, etc. Plus whatever is on the drawing boards for companies that have larger resources.
I've gone on record that CCP should just scrap DUST for the most part, and not worry about trying to build it to be what the end vision is (if it even has one). But, that's probably not going to happen. Everyone thinks DUST will be dead by this time next year. Nobody can verify that from the outside looking in.
So, what do you want from DUST? Why are you going to keep playing it? Is there a general direction in this community? Or, is DUST doomed to be on the long list of failed titles/shooters? I don't think DUST should try to compete with anyone. I think CCP should try to make the best game possible. But as we all know, a perfect game can't exist, especially for a larger playerbase. |

You're not crazy.
As for me, I can stand the flaws this game has, I can stand the control issues, I can stand protostomping, damn I can even stand the fact that my tank sucks, but what I cannot stand is how CCP operates.
They bring something new in the game. They remove it.
They announce something. They push it back.
They create expectations. They never give an ETA.
They constantly change anything.
I'm the one getting crazy! Seriously!
CCP do listen and communicate with the playerbase, yes. But in a completely wrong way! They only listen to the QQers, I don't know if they are worried about the possibility they will actually leave the game, but the QQers will always whine, no matter what, while the other players get more and more frustrated because of the changes.
Look at what they did with the aim assist, they almost removed it after 10 days! Damn, 10 days! But for some reason they don't work on what we really ask for:
How many times we asked for a vehicle lock? How many times we asked for an item trading system? I'm not even talking about PvE or really complicated things. They say they have priorities and these priorities would be "tutorials" and "Corp roles"? Omg what? Seriously, how is this stuff a priority?
Ok, I really need to calm down now.
Unfortunately, this game is driving me crazy. Disappointment, frustration, this never happened with any other game in my whole life and I'll be leaving sooner or later, because I know CCP is not going to change the way they operate. I will play as long as I feel like playing. How much... I don't know, it really depends.
If their changes to the game are going to break my experience even more, I'll be leaving in no time. If they keep the good things and start to work seriously on the other stuff I might stay even for several months.
I don't gi... I couldn't care less of the AR's range or whatever! Come on! All these people losing their time after a stupid weapon or whatever is the FOTM... Please! I want this game to be fun, fix the core mechanics and add important basic functions that are going to improve our experience! |

Carbon almost killed EVE..... seriously... the launch of the station walking and aurum store patch almost killed EVE... developers, employee's and players of over 8 years quit in protest... the old guard that where with CCP since their tiny little office and birth of EVE.... and haven't been back... a lot of EVE reflect's this to this day.

Every game has its Zealots, and to be honest most of them are people who defend a free game because they cant afford to buy AAA Titles.
They usually make up around 5-10% of the population in-game.
They see games with emotional attachment so they hate anything bashing what they love. Love is blind after all......and so are they. |

What do I legitimately expect? In a year the rest of the racial suits, weapons, and vehicles will be out. The core will be about 90% stable (whatever that means) with a lot of the terrain glitches fixed, sensitivity sliders, and all that jazz. We will have another map. And most importantly team queue for FW will make constant 16v16 battles a reality.
At that point we could legitimately be peaking at 1000 players and limping into the second anniversary.
Things like player-to-player trading will be implimented. Player trading of boosters will provide additional cashflow, but Dust is still in the red for a while - CCP can handle it though. MTACs, MAVs, and new infantry classes like grenadier, etc. are all possibilities 18+ months down the road. The thing is, CCP has a long-term vision and they are stubborn little *******. New Eden is their product and Dust is just one arm of that. Ya see, once all the above is fixed and implimented, the only thing to do is build on top of the solid foundation.
That comes in three primary categories: 1) Enhance competitive play (PC, FW, raiding, balance rewards, etc.) to keep the core FPS cbt vets coming back for more. 2) Impliment PVE that will attract more casual players who may be driven off by stomping vets otherwise 3) Work on the EvE link hardcore. Things like niche but lucrative manufacturing Eve side that requires salvage gained through Dust PVE will draw more people with EvE accounts into the fold. AUR items to enhance this activity Dust side will supplement monetization.
... which are all turbocharged by one thing: PS4.
All it takes is a port to the new console; I'm not sure how the code would work but if they can run Carbon on the PS4 with 64v64 and the above changes within the next 3 years, this game isn't going anywhere. Alternatively, a port to the PC would open up an entirely new market and make adoption by EvE players more likely, but I'm thinking CCP wants to make console Dust work.
SOMEWHERE in all of that, CCP will push a hardcore marketing blitz to attract new players, likely in conjunction with the PS4 release. Conveniently, this will be well after PS2 arrives on PS4 so perhaps they are hoping to grab bored PS2 players.

Yeah i got to agree with you sadly this was a game i had high hopes for but now i think ccp should either cancel this project or tuck it away and try again in a couple of years while doing their homework on making fps games or just abandon us console gamers and move this to the pc since it would be easier to develop(if i remember correctly weren't alot of developers having trouble using the ps3 to its full potential) then since they would be less restricted by sony and can go at their own pace.(Note: I am basing the last one on my experience with warframe which gets updates alot quicker then this game) |

lol. you are a prophet! when you spoke the truth no one was listening!
I'll play dust as long as it's the only FPS with hint at persistence, once a different developer jumps on the concept for consoles I'll likely switch because Dust lacks quality.
As it stands there are no alternatives on consoles - it's either arcade populist stuff like battlefield or Dust. |

Its not worth it to port to the PS4.... hell, it would be easier to restart the damned thing from scratch for the PS4 than port it.
Quote:The PlayStation 3 uses the Cell Architecture. That's a system for getting a bunch of different processors to work together. On most other devices you have a single powerful processor, or perhaps a powerful central processor and then another processor specifically designed for graphics. On a cell machine, you have many smaller processors (on the PS3 it's six) that are each dedicated to specific tasks. In theory all those extra processors let you do more processing, but only if you can keep them all busy. It takes development time to get the most out of the machine. Worse, this work must be done on the back end. If you're porting to a machine with less memory you can just scale all the textures down and render everything at a lower resolution. But if you're porting to or from a cell system, the coding team has to crawl down into the guts of the game engine and make all sorts of really fundamental changes to how the system works. The point is, it's difficult and expensive to port to and from cell-based machines.
The PS4 will move away from the six-headed beast of cell and embrace the x86-64 architecture. That's the same architecture that runs most 64 bit PCs. Since the Xbox 360 uses PowerPC architecture instead of x86, we could end up with a situation where the PS4 has more in common with your average home desktop PC than with the other consoles. Under normal circumstances you could argue that emulation is the answer. If the newer machines have enough power, they can simply simulate the behavior of the old machines. The problem is that emulating the cell architecture on a non-cell machine would be a nightmare. Even if the new machine is ten times faster than the one you're emulating, you're talking about emulating multiple concurrent processors. While processors have been getting incrementally faster over the years, their clock speeds have only improved marginally. More of the new speed comes from muti-core processors, and mapping a (for example) single quad-core processor to simulate the behavior of a six-distinct processor cell is a murderously difficult problem. It might even be impossible to get it exactly right. The differences between multiple processors sharing a pair of memory pools and a single multi-core processor with many levels of cache and a large single pool of RAM are extreme. The real irony is: The better the old game was optimized for the PS3, the harder it would be to port or emulate on the PS4.
