First, let me say that I appreciate CCP being transparent with us. This is important for the health of the game.
Second, I'm glad they're holding things back if they're not ready. This is infinitely preferable to rushing out buggy or imbalanced additions/changes.
I am of course disappointed because it means everything else will be pushed further back. I hope CCP takes this opportunity to seriously consider adding vehicle capacitors. There will never be a better time to do it, and it might become too difficult later as they add in more vehicle content. CCP might be able to repurpose the stamina system in the vehicle capacitor implementation. I also think the new player experience should be the priority for 1.5, and am glad they are working on this. Bringing in new players is vital to the long-term health of DUST.
I also really hope CCP considers adding my test range suggestion soon. This would give us the opportunity to play test upcoming changes and weapons/suits/equipment in an isolated environment that won't break the game. I suspect this would greatly help with finding bugs and balancing issues before they make it into production, and it would give us something else to do in the meantime. CCP has limited resources, so tapping the resource of it's devoted player community is not only wise, but crazy to not do. CCP: ask the EVE devs what their development process would have been like without the feedback and bug reports generated by the players on SISI. |

It's taken EVE 10 years of balancing to get there, and there are still OP weapons, modules and ships. They are working on a game wide ship rebalance and it's going to take a long time to get through them all. It's a slow and difficult process. |

It's a slow and difficult process. the wierd part is they diddnt bring any of that balancing experiance to dust. they are making mistakes in dust that they learned to fix in eve I think that's a fair criticism. The lack of a testing environment for players to submit feedback has been one of the most outstanding issues from my perspective. I can't imagine trying to develop a game on the scale of DUST with a limited team and no test server for players to beta test upcoming changes. A lot of the major hiccups might have been caught earlier like the TAC-AR issues at the launch of Uprising, or the shotgun hit detection bug in 1.4. I also think CCP is improving it's approach and getting the community involved earlier in the process (as evidenced by this thread). Yes it can be more painful, and you're going to have to deal with more whining on the forums, but the released content will be much better. |

Thor Odinson42 wrote:They need to give these guys some more resources to work with. I agree. CCP should beg/borrow/steal some money to get a few more developers on the team. At least until they get the initial content released with all racial suits, vehicles, a decent variety of maps, the foundation of the core mechanics in place, and a working PS4 version. After that, they can scale back some and focus on 6-month updates like EVE.

It's so hard to try and schedule a PC battle right now because you just don't know if people are going to log in. The matchmaking deal put the finishing touches on many people who were on the fence. There's A LOT of people who've been in a holding pattern to see what's done with vehicles.
With the release of some new games, I'm thinking this is going to be a pretty empty server soon.
I hope I'm wrong, but in my opinion we are seeing the end. I think you're wrong. I'm not going anywhere (and if I do I'll still be running passive boosters). This game is so unique that it tends to hold people's interest despite it's flaws. I realize CCP is on borrowed time though, and I think they know it too. |

You can just press square to never see them again, but I do agree; new players aren't going to take the time and read. New players need to be thrown into an empty map do to some tutorials for shooting, quick-swapping guns, using equipment, hacking, calling in vehicles, setting squad orders, calling in strikes, etc. I think CCP's NPE team should spend some time studying some iOS games. The most polished ones do a really incredible job of teaching the player how do do things by walking them through it in a very intuitive way. I was watching my girlfriend play Cyto on my iPad and it made me think about how much better DUST could be at teaching people how to play. Portal and Halo both did this well too (the originals). They had to introduce players to very new concepts and did so through pushing the player forward through the experience instead of explaining it to them like a manual, or little video snippets. Learning by doing is a powerful tool, one CCP should be focusing on for it's NPE.
They should also consider hiring Matt Gemmell as a consultant to do a review of your UX. The guy is a genius when it comes to user interaction and UI design. |

THE LEGENDARY WARRIOR wrote:the problem with that is: who would be invited to the test server? ... Everyone.
I started a thread a few months ago about how CCP could implement a testing range using existing assets with fairly minimal development time a few months ago. I linked to it earlier in this thread, but I guessed you might have missed it. The basic idea is players could spawn into a map with preloaded static NPCs that the player could shoot. he could invite friends into his map (team killing is on), everyone has infinite SP in this mode and everything costs 0 ISK. You don't earn any ISK or SP or any other stats from the kills you make there, it's just for testing. Because it's not a real match, there are certain bugs that won't be caught here, but it should give people an idea of how well future weapons will affect things. Read the thread for the full explanation, and please post feedback there if you have ideas/criticisms etc. |
