I thought it was about every year, and most of the time most of those guns are m16 knockoffs. Battlefield adds new guns about every 2 years.
The ONLY thing i want to comment on that is that Battlefield also has what no other game (that ive found) has. A destructable enviroment. if CCP could find a way to add that to dust... (without a massive increase to lag (maybe the PS4 can handle that??)) well i think dust would then stand out as a true legendary game. but as it stand right now every game seems to have that ONE unique thing that keeps its players. BF series has destructable enviroment, Dust has interconectivity to eve (and lag to the point I can no longer play it untill they fix it) and COD well it has whinny kids. as for other games i dunno. But theres something about every game that keeps players entrapped, and i think they have to capitalize on what they got. thats your selling feature, flesh it out a bit (and fix the lag so i can play again), make it more robust, (get your suits and weapons in) and then worry about the fancy stuff.
Also what kind of tutorial is this going to be? a play through style or a "oh here read this owners manual on how to fit your suit". (if it was said i skipped here from a earlier page to quote)
