I would very much like the ability to create medals and ribbons for those fighters and warriors in my corporation that go "above and beyond." For as Napoleon said "A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon."
This would allow corporations to not only financially reward those who are above average players, but also give a fine fighter a more permanent proof of his performance.
I would suggest that the price tag for both creating them and giving them out remains quite high, as doing so will ensure that they are not handed out like candy, thereby cheapening the value.

Am I seriously the only one on the Dust 514 forums who sees the value in this? |

Nomex Gallatin, you are not.
I don't have the pleasure of playing EVE and seeing how that works, but there are many players that I've fought alongside that deserve a reward for their excellence. This would be awesome |

Thank you for the feedback Ihlgigaris, it is much appreciated, and nice to know I am not the only one who perceives a need in this area of the game.

The 5 mil fee for it to be done in EVE seems quite reasonable here as well, if you don't want to cheapen the value - though of course some rich guys will always spam them for lulz.

As a leader within my corporation, I see a great deal of value in this idea.
Why my recruits and trainees perform above an beyond the call of duty, it would be nice to reward them with something that shows that OSG sees the value in their members. |

This I would love. I have already earnt one from PIE Inc high command for my service during the Defence of Arzad.
Medal of ST Agelioth here I come.
I have mentioned this before to CCP. We need access to proper character cards like EVE players have so that we may bestow bounties, write Bio's, have Corp Employment Histories, and also earn ranks, medals, and such. |

I created a medal for one of my guys a couple weeks ago on the eve side after he generated some hilarious tears for us. Sadly, I wasn't able to actually award the medal to a dust character. Since it's part of eve it's something I'm sure we'll get eventually. The UI for fluff like that though is probably a much lower priority than most other things though.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think in the past it was actually possible to award a medal to a dust character from the eve client. It wouldn't show up in dust of course, but the medal would be there for some point in the future when a screen was made for it. |

True Adamance, great point about the character cards.
I am sure a lot of this in in the works, way in the background where we can't see it yet, but it is there. Yet, as my experience in RL and Eve have proven; giving short and long term goals with tangible results (like achievements and rewards like unique badges, ribbons, etc.,) is a very quick way to motivate people immediately.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply and great input.
Kind regards,
- Nomex

If I see a short range WT pop up I check his card before skiddadling out of there, unless he is a newer pilot than me, in which case I try to crush him.
In Dust this would be a very useful and immersive tool. |

Yes please. In Eve, one of my titles is "Cannon Fodder", because, well, I suck at pvp. With that said, I love it. We should have it. Make it so. |

"Cannon Fodder" that's only bad if you aren't trainable... but we can probably make a ribbon for that "achievement" though. |

Maybe CCP can also add ribbons for the faction warfare side of the game. For Example:
Tribal Defense Ribbon Awarded for, (X) number of battles fighting for the Minmatar
And it could go deeper than that because in the real life military if you are awarded a medal or ribbon multiple times, a star is added to show it. The same thing could be added to these where as you accumulate multiple awards of the same ribbon. As the stars accumulate they could change, as they do in real life, from bronze to silver to gold and these can be show on the ribbon itself when you view it. Example:
Four bronze stars = one silver star Five silver stars = one gold star Five gold stars = one bronze star with laurels (or something like that)
And so on until you get to the final award of, as following the example above, gold star with laurels. At this point you have maxed out the number of stars you can on the ribbon itself but by this time you should also be at maximum standing with the faction anyway. This could also mean to earn the ribbon in the first place you would have to be in neutral or positive standings with the faction to begin with. So if i earn the maximum award for the Minmatar then logically i should be in the negative with the Amar Empire and have to claw my way up to start getting my awards.
So why have them? What could the reward be for grinding out so many battles for a digital award? Well that depends on the person, some like me just like having them to show off to my friends, while others want something in game like gear or SP. I would leave the decision up to CCP, but some kind of award is needed for the level of dedication it would take to get all the way to the top.
We could also have ribbon awards for weapons, but that is maybe treading to close to what Battlefield does for its player rewards.

5 million per medal , with the ability to set prequisites, or a skill that you can train for the medal
Skill book costs :
5 million ISK
and the same cost of dropsuit skill, but with a multiplier of 16x |

Not quite what I was thinking...
No limits on medals and ribbons, they just need to cost enough ISK as to make them too expensive to issue for anything other than worthy achievements. |
