Sniper:
The guy that just killed the enemy that was about to shotgun you in the back while you tried to hack because you didn't check the area.
The guy that just killed the enemy that ran in behind you to hack back the objective because you're too busy running around being important.
The guy that just killed the forge gunner and/or sniper on the roof that kept you from taking that objective and was killing half of our clones.
The guy that just killed the door gunner of the dropship hovering over you.
I could go on, but it ends up being...
The guy that you stand in front of for half the match acting like an idiot because you don't think he's important to the battle, rendering both of you ineffective the rest of the match. |

Sniper: (noun) also goes by Barry.
Calls out enemy positions, checks objectives for enemies, receives no points for said actions, excellent at calling out enemy positions and amazing spacial awareness. Assists/finishes off many enemies trying to kill a scout with a shotgun.
Also useful against Heavies.
Some snipers are beyond useless. But, lets not lump them all together now. I've seen plenty of AR users who are more useless than a blueberry sniper. Nothing but a nanohive to help them out. |

IceShifter I am a bit surprised to see you trolling, although I am impressed with the quality and wit of your presentation.
These types of sentiment are why I wrote my Sniper guide in the first place. To try to distinguish between the Red Line snipers which pop up when a game is going badly, and the professional snipers who start the match as snipers.
It is certainly the case that a certain number of Frontline troops are needed for a team to be effective, and ending up with too many Snipers on a team will dilute the pool of Frontline troops. This is why I wrote my Marksman Guide, to teach Snipers how they can get down and dirty to get the job done when there are not enough frontline troops on the field.
However I would not dismiss Snipers as being useless. I have seen a good sniper singlehandedly defend an objective from a full squad that was trying to take it. If a sniper can get a line on the terminal, they can be very effective at preventing hacks. (There are counters to this though, as I mention in my Frontline Guide.)

If categorizing and quantifying is trolling, so be it. I wish to introduce a term to distinguish a valuable role -sniper- from a- waste of a team slot -snipper- |

As a tanker I allways feel allot more comfortable having a good sniper on comms targeting any enimy av and calling out positions. Snipers if used as part of a team are verry usefull.....whats not helpfull is half the god dam team snipingnfromnthe redline. Every speciality (yes snipers are people too) has a use ..and if used right are an invaluable asset to any squad. |

What I would point out is that you can't immediately tell by where a person is whether or not they are a useless sniper. For the love of all that is good do NOT jump up and down in front of me after trying to melee me from behind... especially when I'm already near the enemy redline firing back towards our own red line.
However, even if I'm in the red line for a bit it may be because I have died and need a safe enough place to launch a paper suit, because nearby objectives are under contention, the railgun might be a good idea at the moment or perhaps I've run back to switch to/from AV or load up on ammo as I carried uplinks the first time out.
And yes, it sucks when "our" side has half a dozen folks sniping and nobody going for objectives. Oh, and if I have a 0/0 score at the end it's almost certainly because of being thrown in a match a few moments before it ended. |

My own opinion is that the following person is worse than the others:
The guy who appears beside you half way through the match, in your snipey snipey fun zone (about 300-400m away) and starts shooting at the enemy with his AR.
To be fair, he's probably appeared only after he's realised that shooting at the MCC from their start point with an AR, might not be working. |

I Have no problems with snipers in 514.... even tried one for about an hour. his career was short lived.
what i have a problem with is our spectacular new "matchmaking" system still allowing snipers to be 3 or 4 deep on either team.
ya kno the matches i am speaking of..... cant take 5 steps in any direction without getting tagged by different snipers on opposing team.
how many snipers does one team need? same could be said for plain jane AR users i know.
i was stoked about the new system but a week into 1.4 it is sadly lacking..... it's like the games Artifical intelegence has no intelligence.
i have ran across flourescent orange traffic cones with more AI than the new matchmaking system. o7 |

Yeah.. how about never...
Only time I ever get one-shotted period is when I'm in a light fit, lol...
Snipers are useless, and they fool themselves into thinking they have a role in their team's win/loss... when truth is the team with the most snipers LOSES every time. |
