I always liked play the starwars battlefront games and having the clone troopers with jet packs so i would be interested if Dust was able to get a balanced jet pack type item. |

I'm imagining that they'd only work in bursts for a few secounds so you'd never be able to get to like the top of one of those towers.
And really it's only forges and snipers using dropships for that. They can all die :P Since a jetpack wouldn't necessarily increase your horizontal movement speed or help a whole squad get somewhere much faster then it might not detract from dropship's role. |

I posted a thread about Asension Cables, Jetpacks, and Nano Jump Drive modules that would be mostly for scout suits, but could be crammed onto medium frames with fitting mods and other compromises. To answer your question, we should have jetpacks, they should be a module with significant fitting requirements and be expensive. You should be able to fly in all directions (not just hover), and shoot while flying. Your sig profile should increase tenfold, and you should be targetable with swarms while the pack is activated and a few seconds after deactivation as it cools down. Read the thread for more details. |

how is this any different than using a dropship to accomplish exactly the same thing? If you're targetable with swarms, then there's no real advantage to using a jetpack instead of a dropship. |

I'm quite sure the suit would be cheaper. Also since we have dropships wouldnt jetpacks be redundant?
Do you really want more mercs being useless noobs wanking off and not helping to actually win the game? I don't. |

Millitia dropships are only like 70K, the jetpack module should be at least 300k for the std version. Jetpacks would be for scouts to help evade. They hit and run, flying to a balcony to escape and recharge their shields, this is very different than calling in a dropship to run away.
I don't think scouts are useless at all. It's a different style of gameplay than AR spam and strafing around like jackasses. I guess that's the pinnacle of FPS gameplay for some, and anything else is considered "wanking off." |

Oh excellent. People who can shoot you from above and then fly off so I cannot return fire. Yes please .
And yes a scout (ie frontline spotter) is now useless to the team unless they have scanners that show up for everone on your side (not just squad). (We already have logi for that plus they revive and heal)

Yes, jetpacks should be in the game. Only Scouts should be able to equip them.
The trade off would be the fact that you are a Scout in the air for everyone to see. Essentially a squishy pinata, except everyone has a stick and no blindfold. |

High slot and low slot jetpacks. Scouts get 50% pg/cpu bonuses on jetpack modules. Jetpacks don't act like other modules. They actually take up all of the high slots on high slot jetpacks and all the low slots on low slot jetpacks. Requires at least two slots. Prevents taking an equipment slot(? maybe, who knows if it would be OP we all have cheap-ass vipers and gorgons already, right?) |

I might be in the minority, but I think that it could actually work pretty well if implemented correctly. I would have an entirely new suit, and the jet pack would act only for short bursts. You'd only be able to get up about 5 to 10 meters with the jet pack.
I would give them 2 equipment slots, a sidearm weapon slot, and very little shields and armor. That way they'd be extremely vulnerable, and would almost act as ultra mobile logistics players. |

Yes, small jetpacks should be available for high power slots. Module should be active and provide max 3 seconds of thrust with a cool down of at least 5 secs. The module being very much similar as the inertia dampeners and using the same technology would also disable the inertia dampener for the duration of the cool down.
What then could be achieved with these modules? Well leaping over not so tall buildings and provide roof access instead of climbing the ladders etc.
And well yes, nothing would be more cool that utilize jetpack on your heavy suit and then kill people crushing them by landing on them from the heights. |
