He was demonstrating by just hovering there, but what you can also do is keeping it running while you fire at targets below you, so you're providing both air cover and intel on enemy positions at the same time. |

Still visibility restricted to squad....
With a ship dedicated to aerial support and target location, I would like to see this view propagate across the whole team.
Infantry with hand scanners can stay squad only, but vehicles in an AWAC and support role... I'd like to see that be team-vision. |

I can see why they limited infantry scanners, especially with how they highlight enemies for a long period after the scan, but for something like this that is so range dependent, I'd like to see it benefit the team as a whole. |

I agree with this. A dropship to run scanners is very expensive to skill into in SP and cost over 1 million isk. By running the scanner my ship is significantly weaker. The risk should be balanced against the rewards. I don't think team vision on dropship scanners would be OP. Yes it's like a red bulb only christmas tree when I turn that baby on, but the risk I take to do it...##
So team vision for a DS scanner sounds balanced to me. ESPECIALLY since the scanned targets only light up when I am there, NOT once i leave unlike the handheld scanners. |

But I do agree that using a LAV is easier. The new dropship camera looks pretty clunky to me, what with it being right up the ship's rear. It's too bad there's no system in place where you can place the camera where you want before deploying, and when you get in the ship, it goes to your preset. |

However with 1.5 around the corner this role may be removed albeit temporarily at best so it may be a good time to get a shoe in on the subject before its reintroduced. I feel 5 WP for scanning an enemy, and only an enemy sounds like a good enough reward. Then 10 WP if someone on their team kills a scanned enemy. Now, if there's 3 huddled around a corner, that's a possible total 45 WP for scanning those 3 and teammates killing them. |

Please do. I think it would be balanced. However the WP thing needs real care. With a 5 second cooldown I can scan and scan and scan. I have not given this thought but idea #1
#1 - Once you scan someone you get 5WP BUT until they die you get nothing for scanning them again. So 5wp per life per scan. 5wp 1 wp whatever seems balanced by testing average deaths against the number of scans.

I was thinking more about scanning a guy and then if he gets killed you get the assist. Just plain scanning is open to quite a few abuses. As for once per life thing not sure how much more of a bandwidth load that would be over the temporary one's we have currently. |

well over the life of the game its a potential 3500-6000 wp at 5 per scan per life throw a squad commander order on the dropship and have squad commander hop in and whallah. |

Simple boolean property on the class would do it using the same procedure that assigns Assist values. So in the same way the game tracks assists it only needs to track a scan as if it is a bullet strike.
I you die and I scanned you I get WP. I get nothing if i didn't scan you. Just like an assist. You only need a boolean, Int ID or Str to track if it was me that scanned you and if have you died since that scan |

So in the same way the game tracks assists it only needs to track a scan as if it is a bullet strike. If I scan you then same code that assigns a bullet strike so i get an assist assigns the same value. Only on death a sub Proc assigns me 5 not 25 wp. I you die and I scanned you I get WP. I get nothing if i didn't scan you. Just like an assist. You only need a boolean, Int ID or Str to track if it was me that scanned you and if have you died since that scan When we implemented C3 (Shared radar vision in Battletech) in MechWarrior Living Legends, we had the C3 equipped mech gain a very small amount of c-bills for giving visibility of targets, and a somewhat larger amount for damage done to enemies within that scan range, as you were indirectly assisting those players on your team.
Say that the scanner gives you 1 WP for each unique target scanned, and then gives you 2 WP when a target that you scanned is killed.
These amounts are small enough not to make running a scanner into some kind of farming method, but still reward the player for filling that role. |

In case you haven't watched his other videos, Judge is a dedicated DS pilot and this provides utility to the squad since he's already going to be ... In. A. Dropship.
The fact that he wasn't firing was obviously for the sake of making the video as opposed to implying that ADS pilots should jjust sit there with a scanner on. That's the difference between an LAV scanner and the DS scanner ... with the DS, he can also be killing things, quickly move 4x people, and prompt the other team to switch to AV so his infantry can kill them on the ground. |

This.
I found a match where there we no other scanners and that had structures blocking line of sight to show how it works and looks. Demonstration only. I would have been killing the hell out of them if I wasn't doing the video while scanning them at the same time. Imagine the panic on 8 reds faces when that "YOU HAVE BEEN SCANNED" message popped up and missiles start falling from the sky at the same time the blues on their radar all turn and head toward them. |
