whoever comes up with the sound design has no idea of what sounds in a game should be.
First we get the bells for headshots, the whistle in grenades and the legbreaking when jumping.
Now we get the glass breaking and other weird sounds when getting hit.

Shields are made of glass? Yeah, it doesn't always work to try to invent really iconic sounds for almost everything in science fiction by completely ignoring the science behind the sound. Star Wars lucked out in that regard. Dust's battle sounds for the most part are serviceable. But some can be very annoying or strange and not in keeping with the game world.
I agree that a lot more thought and effort could should go toward making sounds that have some fidelity to what the tech we are using might actually sound like.
I would like to add that we are genetically modified super soldiers. I do not moan and grunt in pain every time I take some plasma fire. I would like the option to turn off the grunting and moaning sound effects my merc makes when I am taking damage. I keep wondering who it is in my squad thats making those noises. |

I agree, the new sound for taking damage is annoying and i can barely put up with it, tbh im pretty much convinced that this games sound team consists of one guy making midi sounds with his keyboard. |

Yeah. They do a good job with the directional sound thing. Even if the sounds themselves are low fi, for the most part they still sound like they are really in the environments where we hear them. |

I've only just realised the sounds my shields make when under fire are supposed to be there....
I thought my game was just glitching and my ps3 needed a defrag
No matter whats shooting at me, it sounds like a scrambler rifle or pistol, its too loud basicly, and i cant tell what it is im getting shot by
Personally i dont think we need a "shields under fire" sound, as i can see my bars go down, which is more than good enough, pleasseeee remove asap |

I am not a fan of the pain noise. The grunting sound is too loud or something. I am not a fan but I can live. The other sounds are good and I do like the shield sounds but the groan when during armor damage and when downed isn't my favorite. I will be OK but I just wanted to say something.

Shield getting-hit-sound is great to have that feedback, rather than just a colour bar getting less on a screen. Glad its in :) |
