Its way too close..... I actually prefer the camera angle that was previous for a number of reasons:
1. Dropship pilots can't see whats going on well below them to adjust flight for when gunners and dropping people on an objective.
2. Much harder to see what you are going to back up into when flying in hard dropping areas.
3. No peripheral vision to be aware of whats going on around you making dropships much more vulnerable to AV weaponry.
Perhaps the new camera view for the dropship would be better suited for fighters, but the more further 3rd person dropship view helps for pilots to communicate with their guns and passengers. In a few matches I tried to hover over an area to give my gunner a view to shoot at ground troops but was unable to see what and where he was shooting towards. |

CCP why the hell you broke dropship camera?
All a pilot can see now is an ass of a dropship.
Just explain it just as You would explain it to the little child... coz I cant uderstand that you changed something to worse... |

This new camera and render distance breaks the game for pilots. No exaggeration.

I haven't posted on the forums before, but as I have been told by many that my Incubus is a force to be reckoned with, I figured I should put my expertise behind my words to ensure that constructive conversation goes on, rather than general, offensive/destructive complaining.
As mentioned previously, I am an assault ship pilot, and I also dislike the new camera angle. While many people say that the camera too far back, the anchoring point is now the nose of the ship, rather than the center of it as it was before. Having a centrally fixed rotation point gives a feeling of control over your vehicle because the cameras rotation point was the same as the vehicles rotation point. With the camera mounted in the front, I can't see the point where my changes take effect. It's like driving a car with rear wheel steering, while being on the very front of it. Before, I felt like I was in control of my vehicle, and could get it to do what I wanted/needed it to do, but now I feel confused when flying because I no longer have that direct relationship with my change in vision, and change in motion. Also, the new camera angle doesn't allow me to see my whole vehicle which has 2 effects. I have lost the feeling of the dimensions of my vehicle, and I can't see my thrusters. Knowing my dimensions allows me to know where I am in adjacent to the obstacles I fly close to. As it takes time for your thrusters to rotate into position, you need to see what they were doing to know when to apply your thrust. Both seeing your entire vehicle, and tracking your thrusters' positions were essential to precision control, which is in turn essential for being an effective assault ship pilot. Lastly, the new angle interferes with using my afterburners. It causes my ship to take up the entirety of the screen, and I can't see where I'm going which is dangerous to my ship both in avoiding obstacles, and avoiding enemy fire.
In summation, it feels as though I am fighting against my ship, rather than controlling it, and that isn't very fun. I agree that the previous system made it hard to shoot an assault ships main weapon, and the new angle allows me to see my targets better, but it makes flying significantly harder. I would like to request that you add an option change the camera angle back to the previous one. As a solution to not being able to see below you when in an assault ship, I propose making the craft translucent when you are looking down. Then you can still see your craft while piloting, while also be able to see your targets for better shooting. In the mean time I might try flying some more, but I think I'll be grounded until the 1.5 update adjusts vehicles further.
P.S. As another request, I ask that when you do do 1.5 Please ensure that above all else, if I need to withdraw in my galente armor vehicles, please make sure that it doesn't take too long to regain my armor. I know you don't want armor regeneration to be a big factor in combat, but if I fight for 10 seconds, but have to remain out of the battle for more than 30 seconds, it makes it very boring to be in a vehicle. Engagements can be often be very brief, and if after a 10 second 2 tank showdown, the survivor has to spend more more than 30 seconds waiting to be ready to engage again, it then the cost of engaging is lengthy inaction. Whether it a car, a tank, or a dropship, I don't want to spend so much time waiting, I wanna use them to assault the enemy. Anti-vehicle weapons often force me to retreat as it is, often unless they are very weak, and even if they don't destroy my vehicle, they remove me from the action for a while, and it makes it boring to use them. Find a way so that AV weapons can be useful, but that vehicles, which are many times more expensive, don't get obliterated, or have to cower/be recalled at their first sight. |

if it wasn't for the fact that in the last built i got good at flying i would have crashed with this camera view even more than the old build when i was learning how to fly.other than that it's a interesting camera view and would is great for the assault dropship and the fighter, but a normal dropship suffers from this view and having the option to switch back to the old camera view is a needed option.for example if you give us the option to zoom closer to the ship from the old view to the-> new view -> and then the 3rd person view with the same button(the one for the third person view) would be nice. |

Even in the last build it was difficult to position a dropship over a point below it. Now it is next to impossible. While you can look down on the ship by manipulating the right stick it is very difficult to do it without yawing your ship at least a little bit.
All of Ceej Mantis's points about seeing enough of your ship to see what the thrusters are doing is spot on. Bringing your ship to a halt by pitching up is made possible by viewing the thrusters. If you can't see them you have to estimate the response of the ship. It is much harder.
I have been advocating for much greater visibility around your ship. These changes have gone in the opposite direction.
Some things that would help and might be possible quickly...
- Adopt CeeJ's suggestion to make the ship model in third person view transparent or outline
- Zoom the view out further than it was before the current changes
- Increase the field of view

New camera is too close, when I bank forward, I see my ship's tail filling entire screen. Assault pilots does not need this camera, because they fly too high to see small targets +5 meters closer. Better improve aiming and make hull semi-transparent. Why pilot's turret is only turret in game without stabilization? |

And if this travesty was done with the good intentions of helping assauult ships aim at targets, and benefit is totally nullifies by the new render distance of enemies. But the camera is still bad.
Push it further back. Center on center instead of nose. Do it back how it was and just make it transparent to pilot when aiming through own ship. |

finished playing some games with Gbghg and i although we've managed to survive without being flicked from the sky, i dont like the new camera , it has some use (emphasis on SOME) for ADS, but for others like the STD or the Logistics, it makes it more difficult to see whats around you. |

I too feel as though I am fighting against my dropship rather than controlling her.
My take off relied on the central camera angle. I would max thrust up pointing my nose strait down, trying to get the most speed possible and get to the field faster. Eventually my engines would start to catch up and would begin moving into the flying position. At this point if I didn't bring my nose up the dropship would start to loose ALT since the thrust was now being applied the direction the nose was pointed. I cant do this nearly as well with the front angled camera. |
