I like star wars because the original movies had the empire resembling America, A bunch of white guys who can't hit the roadside of a barn yet have managed to amass alot of wealth and "territory" through war, Currently led by a black man who has fans all across the world, and When it came to fighting tiny men in a jungle they got their arses handed to them

Each has its ups and downs, Trek has fewer plot holes and they solve stuff with their minds.
Star wars has more space battles, but has so many plot holes that it can't hold anything. It also has the best books and games (SW battlefront FTW!). If anyone is interested I recommend Timothy Zahnn's books.
I have to go with star wars, I love me some space battles. |

Star Trek.
I find that its easier to say "I watch some Star Trek", and watch a few one hour shows then Say "I'll Watch Star Wars" and sit through a 2 Hour Movie.
Speaking of Star Trek, I could probably See if BBC is airing reruns of TNG.
I'm over here in 'Murica, so they just trash the records of old shows when new "Good" Shows come out.
However, if you let me throw Firefly into this, I will go Firefly all the way.

Star Trek is a sci-fi universe with characters in it.
Star Wars is characters in a sci-fi universe.
There is a very deep technical/statistical basis in Star Trek, where as Star Wars is about hand waving everything.
The only time I can recall anything genuinely technical being mentioned as a plot point in Star Wars is when Han Solo states the time it takes the Millennium Falcon to complete the Kessel Run is less than 12 parsecs.
Although widely disputed as being an inaccurate description of speed, it is actually in direct reference to the distance required to travel a set route. In other words, the reason why the Millennium Falcon is fast is because it has an advanced navigation computer able to plot routes which are shorter than other ships, thus it is faster than anything else. If Han has expanded on this point and explained the Kessel Run is normally an 18 parsec route, this might have saved nearly 30 years of arguing amongst nerds.
Other than this, no mention is made regarding gravity, inertia or any other of the time dilation issues proposed by Einstein and supported by most regarding relativity.
When Han wants to go somewhere, he just says 'punch it, Chewie', and physics be dammed.
You might as well compare math with art. |

I love Empire Strikes Back, and the new star wars comics with Leia as the main character... but oh man: The first part of the 2009 Star Trek movie just has so many feels. I get all teary eyed when I see Cap. Kirk's dad die. *sob sob*
In regards to lightspeed in the star wars universe, Han Solo mentions that the Millenium Falcon can make .5 past lightspeed... but nothing can go faster than lightspeed. But what is Hyperspace? It's not normal space. So I always figured that as a ship accelerates towards lightspeed the hyperdrive engine kicks in and the ships jump into some kind of slipstream where it can travel to a location faster than lightspeed (like a wormhole). So when han says his ship is .5 past lightspeed I assume he means that traveling through hyperspace he can arrive at a location faster than if he was traveling lightspeed in normal space. Also, because he's not actually going lightspeed, I assume that's why there's no time dilation. Also, the reason why he doesn't take years and years to get from one solar system to another is because approaching lightspeed your speed increases exponentially and I'm going to say just .5 is crazy, hella, faster than lightspeed. I'm a nerd. I think too much about these things. |

They used hyperdrive and entered hyperspace, breaking the light speed relative barrier.
I stress relative, as the speed in which a ship can travel when in hyperspace can be many thousands of times the speed of light in relation to normal space, even though the speed gauge will show .5 past light speed.
As I said on the first page, speed of travel in the Star Wars universe is really measured by the distance it takes to traverse in hyperspace. |

I like both, but I like Star Trek more.
Of pretty much all modern sci-fi shows, it's the only one that shows Earth to have a bright future.
I like Star Wars too, but I don't identify with ANY of the characters.
But Star Trek talks about places like Michigan, San Fransciso, Chicago... and despite all the amazing lore, it still finds a way to bring you home.
A good example is Star Trek First Contact, when Lily asks Picard if he ever gets home much. He said, "I tend to think of this ship (the Enterprise) as home, but if it's Earth you mean, I try to get back whenever I can."
I like that sentiment. I like that Earth has value to the human race in Star Trek, and that humans aspire to their better angels more in that franchise, than in any other.
SW = Action ST = Ideals
That's actually the only thing I do not like about EVE... It starts off with Earth, but you end up too far away in principle. I would love to know what happened to Earth in EVE. Humanity isn't going to disappear on either side of the EVE gate, just because the gate closes. If humanity on Earth survived, it would be far more technologically advanced than any of the major powers in EVE. Perhaps being on par with or greater than the Jovians.
In EVE, I'd like to see us be able to go home one day. |

The terrans had perfected genetic engineering and are immortal super humans, who consider eve folk as inferior and sent out ships to find these ' lower life forms '
The Jovians met the terrans when a single Terran ship found the Jovians centuries before the other nations were space faring.
The terrans gave the Jovians enough tech to allow them the ability to rise above the other nations and control their destiny.
Due to the incredible distance involved, the terrans would not be able to return for many thousands of years, and when they do, they will eradicate or enslave the eve populous.
Essentially, the Jovians were given a choice: take tech and control the other nations or die.
The Jovians chose the former, but, had secretly planned to do whatever they could to prevent this eradication or subjugation. This is why Jovians began messing with genetic engineering to hopefully enhance themselves. They failed and their second plan was to develop pod technology.
Thought this was common knowledge? |

Well, since they change the lore whenever they want to suit whatever changes in game design appear, I think it's irrelevant. In addition to this, an ex-player who now works for CCP is trying to change the lore to suit his own personal interpretation of the mechanics of the pod and pod technology in general. Example in point, the liquid in the pod is now breathable liquid versus oxygen tubes as they are/were written to be.
If you think it's bad when fan made fiction breaks lore, think how bad it is when someone with zero video game industry experience or creative professional writing background attempts to make fundamental changes on an egotistical whim.

Episode 6 Luke. His depth was about as much as a puddle in Death Valley.
But otherwise, th Star Wars movies has a nice plot, and a ton of great characters besides the one noted.
For me however, its all about simply its a fart load easier to watch a few one hour TV shows, then three 2 hour movies.
One thing that make firefly 30 times better then everyone, is it combines the endearablity of Star Wars characters, with the space ship/tech/thought process based story telling of ST, along with its own flair in writing and the atmosphere.
God there must be a season two...
Until then however, reruns FTW! |

Muppets from Space and yes Stargate was alright. The series SG-1 was even better. |

Signed Jar Jar Binks Worst character ever outside of Ewoks I don't know. Maybe I was at the "right" age when Phantom Menace came out but I liked Jar Jar Binks and thought he was hilarious. I remember I used to have a Jar Jar plushee.
I also used to think Attack of the Clones was an awesome "romantic" movie, soooo, maybe everything looks better in hindsight. |
