This thread brought to you on behalf of everyone's favorite feline mercenary.
Basically, he ran the math on the proportion between basic plates and basic shield extenders, and then applied that proportion to the value of complex shield extenders under the assumption that the proportion would remain the same.
85 / 22 = 3.863 66 * 3.863 = 254.958
"Oh and BTW, with maxed plates skill, that would be 280 per plate, and the eHP from two + the base suit eHP with maxed armor upgrades skill = 823."
"This might point out how terribad progression is when comparing shields to armor."
I certainly think it does. |

This is one of those "we have no long term concept for what we're doing" things that I assume is going on at CCP.
Basic armor plates are way too useful for their meta-level. Basic shield extenders are pretty useless, as expected of standard equipment. Complex shields are awesome. Complex plates are, as of 1.3, completely useless. |

They'll be better in 1.4, but you still have the current discrepancy between the two being maintained, as Shield tanking has no disadvantages, making it the more attractive option. |

Completely agree, shield extenders should follow a closer path, more like 40 - 55 - 66.
I fact, everything in this game should follow weapons with a ~10% increase tier to tier imo.
With EHP mods, we should probably have light, medium, and heavy variants like vehicles do. |

I think it's very important for CCP to go back to the drawing board and decide for themselves how the progression from standard to proto, from basic to complex should work. Personally I think the 10% improvement per tier adopted by many weapons (not all) is a very good measure that is both noticeable and rewarding while not overwhelming when being on the receiving end. |

in reality that shield tanker is using an assault rifle with little to no damage mods which is stronger against shields than armor
and the armor squad has a logi healing and reviving
the shield tanker would also have to run upto the armor tankers who are intelligently sitting behind cover

Oh lol your so silly!
All he has to do is throw all of his core locus grenades and one shot every single one. Better yet use a flux grenade and mass drive them to Dust. |

This is why CCP should explain armor vs shields, shields suits actually get about the same EHP than armor but they also get more speed and bucket loads faster repair. Shields are 25-30% more resistant to damage than armor, you can stack 4-5 shield extenders without a problem and aside from a forge gun there are no OHKO weapons against shields. On the other hand armor makes you slower and thus more vulnerable to damage, with 1.4 armor suits will be easily detected due to dampeners taking low slots, we can only stack 3-4 plates since we always have to sacrifice one slot for armor, most weapons are made to kill armor and those weapons are the hardest to dodge or deal very massive damage in 1 hit, and a M1 and Core locus grenade can 1 shot most armor suits. |
